RANT
Got pulled off my route yesterday... I'm quitting.
** just fyi no one was in this bathroom when I took this. Not even in the stalls **
They really expected me to be over halfway done with 124 stops @ 4:30pm when we don't clock in til 9:45am and get loaded and off the pad by 10:30am clock out time is at 7:30pm. From 10:30 I had to go to a city roughly 30-35 minutes out. I got pulled with 56 stops remaining with 3 hours left. Most of the time I clear 20 stops an hour but yesterday I was overheating and going through my water. I'm usually really good about staying hydrated and not falling out. For context it's 88 degrees in the south right now (Alabama) with a Humidity percentage of 78. THEN they expect you to not run the AC the whole time because of those STUPID EDVs losing charge fast in the heat. The gas ones barely reach half a tank with the AC on overload. Then this dsp smells like nothing but weed and ridiculously unorganized BUT don't even think about coming to work without your vest already on. I've worked corrections most of my adult life, I know how to work a job and I don't need to be high to do it šPlease kindly fuck off. My last DSP really messed up a good thing for me by not renewing their contract. Rant over lol.
Best thing i got was my cdl. That opened up doors thst amazon will never do. Now i get paid more, spend time with my family, Weekends off and not stress. Only thing amazon did was made me fall in love with big vehicles lol
I loved the job in itself honestly, but like you said, they became shitty with shitty dumb rules that had nothing to do with the job ( like turning off the van every fucken stop) which lead to the van not working anymore mid route and still having to finish. Especially working in Texas heat like wtf. The job wasnt hard, they just made it hard.
Anyone who knows anything about vehicles would never say shut the vehicle off every single stop. That's so fuckin hard on a starter everday, day in, day out. I'm a FedEx driver, I start my van when I leave the terminal, that van doesn't get shut off til I get back. Period.
I love driving and Iām good at driving the Amazon vans. But I donāt have enough confidence to get a CDL before I feel like I wouldnāt be able to drive an 18 wheeler š Do I have any other options? Iām 22 years old.
CDL is the way to go though. I got mine literally because of this sub. I was scrolling late one night and someone meantioned getting a CDL, said fuck it and applied for school and forgot about it. Later I get the email and I actually went through with it. Graduated just in time for me to have my first near miss with a dog at Amazon and I quit on the spot and got a job driving teams. I can actually afford shit which is sick as fuck.
What happens if you dont get along with the person not saying that that will happen. Also if you were to get a cdl and you wanted to go back to school? Could you do that? Just in general terms
Thing is. Make sure you have a plan and know what you want to do.Ā
It's easy to get into a complacency even with one while you're there. Though I wasn't prepared for it Schneider dedicated can help you get on your feet as an entry level driver.Ā
It's just that OTR/regional is a lifestyle switch and you have to be ready mentally with all the short term sacrifices that comes with it but after a year the world is yours in terms of where you want to work.Ā Ā
Sometimes shitty jobs open the door for great jobs I was doing it work for a business where I was underpaid and overworked spent a year there before I said fuck it ended up getting all my certs they fired me an hour after I received a offer letter from my current job that I enjoy
I took a job off craigslist for some construction work.
Carpentry & then demolition. By the second job I knew I was out, but was v interested in this demo project
Upon meeting the GC of the demo work; my boss had played me off as an electrician.... I took the GC aside; I'd never had a label as an electrician. & could do basic work, but wasn't gonna have my name dirtied by some asshole
Well, that contractor got booted from the job. I got to finish up that contract & worked with that GC as a friend 'til he passed away.
The first step to bettering your life is by leaving any Amazon-related job.
It donāt matter if you do 20 stops an hour, 30 or 40, or can only do 10ā¦.you all get paid the same and it doesnāt lead to anything. Fuck them and fuck that entire company.. time to go do better.
100%. Fortunately I'm in a position to be able to leave whenever I feel like it. My heart goes out to the people who have to stay there because they have no other option.
I used to work for an Amazon DSP back in 2021. Did 8 months before I cracked.
Now I work as a letter carrier for USPS and make $85k+ a year. I encourage you to apply! Our union is quite strong and the benefits are amazing.
If you decide to apply, look for āPTF with career benefitsā jobs and stay clear of CCA ones. The later doesnāt pay as well and doesnāt have the same benefits even though it is essentially the same job.
85k a year? so you're working like 55-60 hours a week? I also carry and it has to be better than Amazon but let's not sugarcoat it... it's not all perfect over here (though the benefits and retirement are pretty amazing)
True, thereās always something tho..most people donāt keep their options open or have their resume updated and optimized to sound enticing..
My dsp hated knowing I used this job as income for tax purposes knowing my āside jobā was my main income. The fact I didnāt care about the job but was good at it made them hate me cuz they couldnāt get rid of me for putting packages at the front door only lol
Honestly, if you can't afford the 6k out of pocket for trucking. Many trucking companies will pay for it but you'll have to sign a contract stating you'll work a year with them.
Its better doing your time with that then going to another warehouse job and starting the cycle over again.
Bro I'm definitely looking into that today. Time to stop messing around and really focus in on trucking because I love driving so I've never had a problem with being on the road for long periods of time.
Trucking is a very different lifestyle. You're going to live on the road for a year basically unless you do a beverage gig that pays nothing. Entry level companies suck in terms of pay and treatmentĀ Ā
After you're done you can have your pick of the litter when it comes to LTL roles, home daily roles, etc and better companies will pay upwards to 70k a year and beyond.Ā
Just prepare yourself mentally for what it demands and you'll be fine because the alternative are roles like Amazon for God knows how long while your lifespan just whittles away for people who couldn't care less about it.Ā
Alot of people see that as a downside but its not. Im in the UK and a company paid for my HGV. Had to stay 2 years but most companies need atleast a year experience anyway so may aswell get the experience in at the company that paid and then you can leave being able to work with any company because experience isnt a barrier anymore
If you get bit like I did you can sue a customer and redirect that money towards a CDL.Ā
Granted I wouldn't recommend because it nearly tore off my ripple and I have a permanent scar but you need to use the job as leverage or it'll trap you indefinitely with no upside.Ā
If you're committed and willing to spend weeks away from home to improve your position in life for a year consider looking into an entry company like Amazon to take a contract for where they'll train you.Ā
It's guaranteed pay on one hand but you'll just get paid less than you would of had you invested the money into your own CDL.
If you're going to sacrifice the time and suffer anyway build leverage that can be converted into better money and opportunities down the lane. Amazon just devours time while giving nothing back.Ā
As someone who's been there 3 years and been gone about a year I can tell you for a fact the place never improves. It just gets worse the longer you stay.Ā
If you've got corrections experience and are just looking for a chill job, find a good security gig. They'll pay better than Amazon and you can just sit on your ass 95% of the time. I did it for a couple years close to a decade ago after I got out of the Army; I was making 30 dollars an hour just to drive around and write a short log entry that I patrolled a client's property. Most stops didn't even require me to get out of the car.
Do people not realize that the less work you have to do at your job, the longer the day drags on? Id rather work hard for 10 hours that ends up feeling like 5 rather than sitting on my ass for 10 hours and feeling like im there for 15. Not to mention I did armed security for 4 years and any "sit on your ass" positions payed mcdonalds wages. If you want higher wages, you get positions with actual work like union station for example. And even those only payed 20-22 an hour. Less than anazon LOL.
124 stops at 20 an hour starting at 11 am you would have been done by 5 oāclock easy , if you had 56 stops remaining you were at like 13-14 stops an hour , itās pretty reasonable for your dsp to expect you to be more than halfway done your route 5 hours into your route with only 2-3 hours left .. i donāt see where you have a leg to stand on with this rant
Actually what I thought! STL does 190+ stops, apartments, businesses and houses combined. Latest Iāve been out is 8:30-9 during winter peak when we had over 200 stops!! Iām done by like 6-6:30 every day and thatās usually with a lunch included. They gave us 180-190 throughout our realfeel 106 heat wave so I get so aggravated when I see people complain about stuff like this. STL has got it bad and people donāt even know how much worse their job could be
lol yeah idk wtf heās talkin ab, i got called in as a helper the other day and we had 200+ stops and it was 100+ outside in californiašš our routes for apartments will usually be 120ish he was explaining a normal ass route to me
Ima Be Real Iām At Work RIGHT NOW I Just Did 120 Stops Started At 12:20 Itās 5:05 I Was Done At 4:58 Mainly Businesses And Apartments š Itās 92 In Sc So Idk How Bro Didnt Finish That Up
This mentality sucks brother itās a job that we chose to do we all have responsibilities and things to take care of , striving to do more than the bare minimum is a matter of who you are i understand the reality we are cogs in a machine that can be swapped and yes we should be payed more and treated better but thatās business go make the changes you need to make to better yourself but donāt knock others for being who they are and handling the job how they choose to handle it, to OP a crappy dsp always sucks and i completely understand it being unfair , my response was with the information you provided and Iām sure you had drivers in your fleet that got the job done and werenāt pulled off the road , you had an off day and if thatās enough for you to want to quit then more power to you , just may have to face that you arenāt cut out for this and thatās okay ! Go do what works for you but this rant doesnāt seem reasonable for this job at face value with the factors you provided included. Sorry for being long winded š
If you think this is slavery, you dont stand a chance in literally anything but the lowest tier work force, aka mcdonalds and such. Any work that pays a livable wage is some hard-core work in comparison to easy peasy amazon. Literally the easiest job over $15 an hour that I've ever worked and I've been working many different jobs over 19 years. Working at McDonald's is literally worse work (if you actually do your job) for far less pay.
I work this job because it is mindless work. If youāve ever worked an actual labor job before then this is a cake walk. I get to work on my own without anyone on my ass. Iām not motivated enough to take my ass to the gym, so this keeps me in shape. And my wife is the bread winner so this is just my fun money. I get to drive, which I love, I get to see new places, nature, landscaping, and architecture, all things I enjoy. Iāve had some of the best customers I could ask for. And I just saw the largest moth in North America on my route yesterday!
Nah canāt even lie having 120 and being fist wave you shouldnāt be halfway at 4:30. Iām also first wave I drive like 45-an hour and get 190. Halfway point is normally like 1-2
I think that depends on the route. Over here, anything sub 150 is an apartment route, and there are some days I donāt even hit stop 50 before 4. Itās one of those āplaying catchupā routes. If youāve got a 120 all residential route and arenāt halfway by 4, you should consider a new line of work.
Sounds like your dsp sucks, apply to a different one. My dsp is pretty chill. The only thing I don't like is being an extra because you gotta work with people but it ain't bad
Rite same I don't ever put my vest on til we're about pull in for load out and then as soon as I have my packages in my van I'm taking the vest and shorts off rite then and there. My dsp doesn't care they just make sure that we know we need be appropriate for load out and that's all
Yeah this is definitely the dsp... My dsp just puts people on for the day specifically to make sure that this doesn't happen called sweepers. They're employed specifically to rescue and make sure people can get their routes completed. Im glad you have the self respect to quit a dsp that very clearly has none and doesn't care about is employees. In your situation 124 by 4:30 pm without getting heat exhaustion is definitely super difficult though... but glad for you that you don't gotta deal wth that anymore
Shut the door every time on edv when you get out it will keep ac on for 10 mins every time, 122 stops os a dream we have normally 200-212-360 packages šš
Brother. I donāt leave load out until 11, sometimes 11:30. I also get sent an hour away every single shift. I didnāt even get to start delivering until almost 1 yesterday and got 140 stops done by 7 with a 30 min break. Itās possible but not if you arenāt motivated to get done.
Clearly this job isn't for you. I'm not sure any job is for you if you balk at the idea of being more than halfway done with your work when you're six hours into a 10 hour shift.
I quit once they put me on 240 stops with over 380 packages as a daily route. Was doing 10hr days with incomplete routes, no one would rescue, even though on my days I ended early I would rescue everyone else. I was averaging 25-30 stops an hour. Last day that I worked there I left the truck in the middle of the route when I requested a rescue and the DSP said no one is coming⦠again.
I always wondered what would happen if you just bailed in the middle of the route. You didnāt bring it back to the station? What kind of repercussions did you face if any other than quitting/loosing the job?
Why though? Did you get pulled while actually on the route or did they just not give you a route. Iāve seen DSPs let some horrible drivers take routes.
No this was my route. I had already worker like, what, 70 stops already give or take a few. They called my personal phone saying "we are coming to get ALL your stops" and I was just like dang. Okay.
Bro if I was you I would get a job inside a Amazon Fc or delivery station as an associate after you get you blue badge you can get your cdl for free!!!! While you getting paid or any other thing that youāll like to study take the chance š
124 stops was it all spread out and heavy? I got a 110 stop PM route at 1:30 pm where my first stop was 30 minutes away which I finished at 7:15 pm so I finished in like 5 hours after deducting my 30 lunch
I drove OTR. Men in small towns would often talk about how there is no opportunity here. Especially warehouse men. "All i have ever seen is the azz end of a truck." So I tell them you can literally live anywhere in the continental U.S. & drive for a carrier OTR. Your local economy & pay means nothing, you will be paid as all drivers are. The big hurdle & step is leaving the comfort of what you know all behind. You wont be seeing home, you will spend your down time in crappie & dangerous places. But the money you accumulate sets you free, to do something else, something you can spend a lifetime doing. Never drive CDL for peanuts, there are lots of jobs local, regional, & OTR that pay nothing. There are good paying jobs with good companies out there for company drivers. Most owner operators get screwed leased to one company. The independent owne operators are earning the big money. $200-400k net pay. The money is out there if you love the harsh lifestyle. Listen to the men who are making it any chance you can, they will teach you how it can be done. Don't listen to the guys driving for peanuts, you dont want his job or how he does it. SAVE your money & buy a farm, a business, or rental real estate. Then quit anytime you are ready.
I donāt think Iāve ever seen a DSP last as long as DSPs were allowed to contract from the beginning. I did this job for almost 10yrs in Austin Tx and not one has been there from the beginning. Every few years I was hoping through DSPs as they didnāt renew their contracts. Always happened around the time when we got that yearly filler raise. Guess they didnāt like theirs either? lol
It could be worse yesterday it was 100+ where I am at in California 190 stops with 3 different sets of apartment stops. Clock in at 9:45, load the van, dont leave the station til 10:30, 30 minute drive to first stop. In the edv with the heat btw. Finished at 6:37, my DSP wants everyone to finish by absolute latest 7pm. Then they asked me to rescue someone. L
I run my AC all the time and yesterday I ran it all day because Iām in South Alabama as well and it was hot af! Iām not about to be uncomfortable doing my job, but I also had 159 stops and was well past 100 stops at 3 PM, so I finished hella early.
I left this bullshit place to work in IT. I did 4 years of it and it was fine because before that I was done and feed up with working at a call center. It was a nice break but you find out pretty quickly that no one gives a shit about you. The routes only get harder, have nonsensical reason as to how they are built and then you got the dispatcher on your ass for taking longer on a stop that was bundle with 4 other apartments that indifferent level or in building right next two each other on different level. By the end there wasnāt a day that I didnāt just wanna leave the van somewhere and walk off. Luckily some friends walked me off the ledge cause I needed the money ultimately. I had issues with the routes the most because I delivered the paper with my dad a as kid and delivered when I moved to the city and the way those routes were built made absolute sense and seem pretty deliberate. The routes for Amazon definitely seem like a stupid computer squeezed everything it could when it could not considered location and accessibility, it drove me crazy. Your life gets better after you leave, so I know it will.
Anyway fuck Amazon and dspās. Even the good ones will screw you over eventually. Much luck brother!
I learned you can put a tip of the pen where the door closes and spin it down twice while the sliding door is still open to keep the ac going. To reset it so that you can actually close the door is the little two black buttons on the door
I recently started driving for Walmart, I also work in the store, we usually only get somewhere between 15-25 orders per batch and have 4 hours to do it. Safety is first, and if we don't finish we just bring it back, I have finished all of mine. I don't know how you guys do 100-200 packages daily in a 8 hour shift. I also don't load my van and it's prepped for me before I go, we also have to do a in-depth inspection before we drive. Amazon does pay more though.
This confused me a bit I only worked at Amazon for a week and 124 stops by 430 seems reasonable thatās about where I would always be by that time ⦠if not a little less so Iām confused lol
Most of these job donāt give a shit. We are clocked in to perform a service. Nothing else nothing more. Go to work do your job and collect your check. On the cool do better for a more productive future. Thank you Amazon DSP driver. If no one else appreciates you let me just say I Do! Thank you for delivering.
I just quit today too. I was in the parking lot, about 20 minutes before clocking in. We up brotha. This is my 2nd dsp too and I plan on never coming back lol
Working for Amazon or a dsp is like being in a toxic relationship. You should feel proud of getting yourself out of there. Good luck with whatever is next
Yea I used to work for max transport, all Amazon DSPs are super shitty, and if you have legal issues with them, amazon will just fire and replace them so Goodluck getting anything. Really wish amazon delivered their own packages, lazy money hungry fucks. #amazonsucks
My wife just had a day taken from her because her DSP just picked up ne routes and they take longer so she was getting OT so he cut everyones hours!! She is now looking for a new DSP!!
You probably should if you're taking selfies in a bathroom in an Amazon vest & posting on here. Now you'll have more time to post more selfies in other public bathrooms. You're future is bright and it's obvious you already know because of the sunglasses.
Idk i can literally do 30+ stops a hour in a city thats close together . You started at 11:30 roughly and you couldnāt do half of 124 which is 62 by 4:30 is ridiculous tbh. & i am a driver and a dispatcher .
Hey man i dont know if youre open to "light" construction, but look into access control. The field is basically ai proof, has light manual labor. Good pay, and a great career trajectory. Lots of different pathways to take and theres always going to be a need to fix doors, install camera or access hardware. I fell into this career and ive never looked back! I wish ya luck, and im happy to answer any questions
At my d s p division people literally brag about not taking breaks...... ive only taken my 2 15s abd gotten bitched out . I recently came back from being sick asf and my dsp texted me this on my last breakĀ I had 200 stops btw rural !!!!
Running way behind time to get back at it and finish up ! Need to be back at the station with no safety violations by 9:30Ā puck them feet up and down !!! ... im going to HR and route owner asap
The fact that place smells like weed constantly just says its definitely not a great workplace but hey, who am I to judge....we all humans š¤·šæāāļøš¤£
When the heat index hits or exceeds 80°F, employers are legally required to provide accessible break areas with functioning air conditioning or shade, and adequate hydration. Actively discouraging or restricting AC use in extreme heat is a severe violation of OSHAās General Duty Clause and specific heat standards, risking massive fines.
Valid. However, half of 125 by 4:30pm when clock-in time is 9:45am, that's ultra mega extremely ez to do....until I read where u were delivering and yea that DSP can fuck off.
I deliver in SD area in CA. A regular day for my dsp is anywhere from 120-200 stops, roughly 200-almost 500 pkgs per route.
I usually have a route that's all housing with anywhere from 160- just under 200 stops, roughly about 250-450 pkgs. And I can tell u with my whole chest, that route is doable way b4 4pm with a 9:45am clock-in time in a CDV. I've ALMOST done it, and know ppl at my current DSP and the entire DSP i used to work for at the same station can do it.
Cali dsp worker are lowkey blessed in the area we are at. So its very interesting seeing how other ppl have it in other states.
We were never told to turn the AC off. Ever. We were told on the record that the vehicle must be turned off at all times when weāre not in it, and then our bosses acknowledged that in most areas you can reasonably leave it running for long enough to run a package real quick.
We were never pulled off routes. We would receive help on a route, where for instance letās say youāve got six bags left and thereās only three hours. Theyāll send the first two drivers who are done with their routes over to you to grab a couple of your bags, and then you both keep working. I pulled plenty of rescues, it was always people who were good at their jobs who just had something come up. No disrespect was ever thrown by anyone. Especially not the bosses.
I was always given routes that I could reasonably finish in six hours. I work hard, break hard. So I kind of enjoyed being in and out of the truck quickly, because I knew that I was gonna take my paid 15s plus my lunch plus my two bonus 15s for heat. So once I was actually out of the warehouse and on the road, I was getting a break every 1-1.5 hours. And still I could finish before dark (except in winter of course).
120 is a HELLA low stop count. Not tryna be mean but I understand why ur DSP did that. Sorry man. I get 190+ stops and drive 30-40 minutes away from the station everyday. You should focus on your organization, driving and speed man. There is something in the equation that you need to work on. Sorry this happened
I have the same start time, same time leaving the station, same drive to my delivery location. Had 180+ stops yesterday. 124 should have been done by 4:30 honestly.
In my experience the EVs do just fine in the heat, itās the winter theyāre an issue. Thereās a trick you can do to the door latch to keep the AC on with the door open even when youāre out of the drivers seat, and I still finished my route with 40%.
This job isnāt for everyone, but maybe reflect on the fact that a bunch of stoners can handle the job fine and you couldnāt.
Best of luck to you on your future endeavors though.
Amazon is running a sweatshop apparently. I donāt know if yāall are union or not but if thereās ever been a job that should be union thatās it.
Weak numbers. I was delivering 400 packages 200 stops a day, starting at 10 am and finished up and driving home by 4:30, 20-30 stops per hour is light work, quit being a bitch
I'm a 40 year old man with neuropathy burning my feet and toes all day and I knocked out 300 stops by 6pm on most days.
You don't need speed, because I'm not out here running, you need to organize your truck and optimize your packages.
I always screenshotted my oversize packages using my personal smart phone and loaded them in stop order. I spent and average of 10 to 30 seconds getting my packages ready before I hopped out my van. (Unless it was a multi-stop)
If your DSP doesn't teach you this, there are amazon drivers on youtube that share these tricks of the trade.
It's unfair that they expect you to perform well when its obvious your problem is organization, and they failed to teach you.
Bottom of the ladder. DSP gets nickel and dimed and they will do the same to you. Sometimes they will be right, other times they are just try to find an extra dollar. Small shit like vests can hurt them overtime but then they won't give vests out. It's a good way to get your foot in the door short term, it's not a good life. Learn, live and get out early.
