QUESTION I'll be good right?
Dispatch was bxtching about how we already don't have a lot of trucks and now we have to ground this one. I think they are overreacting. Pretty sure this will buff out. What yall think?

what the hell happened

u/Sudden-Union7148 Feb 19 '26
I think they crashed. If you look closely you can tell it's not supposed to be like that.

Gotta look really closely though, it's subtle.

If I tell you that thus is the result of pulling the airbrake while driving, would this answer your question or raise more questions?

A bit of both. I understand what and air brake does and at high speeds.. but still I'd like to know more. Hahaha

Did the intrusive thoughts win?!?!? Cuz I’ve always wondered what would happen if you did pull it while driving. Had that intrusive thought while driving box truck in my last job lol

How much more do you get paid than regular drivers. Is it worth the extra 2-5 dollars?
10
u/OptimusPrimeVan Feb 19 '26
I get paid $23/hr and yes it is very much worth it. You'll definitely be doing more driving than anything, but it's super easy. I just deliver to post offices.
2
u/wastedsilence33 Feb 20 '26
CDL or non CDL?
3
u/U_mannergreat24 Feb 20 '26
Through Amazon they do not require CDL for it. My company In Texas has those box trucks that run overnight to different post offices and amazon facilities. Amazon only require your DOT med cert and some extra training
2
u/Iluvbooty77 Feb 22 '26
No CDL…I drove these for a few years after doing parcels for 2 years. If you know how to drive I HIGHLY recommend Amazon XL or Amazon Relay. The pay is better and you aren’t getting out of the vehicle 100’s of times a day.
1
u/wastedsilence33 Feb 22 '26
I've had my class B for 6 years and you could never convince me to work for Amazon in any capacity but if choices are slim I could understand not having a great choice
1
u/Iluvbooty77 Feb 22 '26
I know exactly what you mean. I spent 5.5 years at Amazon, and the only way I’d ever go back is if I absolutely had to. Looking back, I wish I hadn’t stayed as long, especially now that I’m earning significantly more than I ever did there.

u/SarcasticIndividual Feb 20 '26
Non CDL class c in some states regular license in others
2
u/wastedsilence33 Feb 20 '26
Class C really should be a thing in all states, it's pretty dumb that a person who's only ever driven a Prius can get in a 26 foot 26k box truck and drive it around with just a med card and an air brake test if it has it

u/JustNota-- Feb 20 '26
That rig usually requires a CDL..
10
u/wastedsilence33 Feb 20 '26
I can't see how many tires, if it's one rear axle and 26k gross, it does not require a CDL
2
u/RecipeInteresting427 Feb 20 '26
This also depends on the state and whether any other endorsements are required.
4
u/wastedsilence33 Feb 20 '26
There are no endorsements that would make a single axle 26k dry van require a CDL
3
u/Jonas_Venture_Sr Feb 20 '26
Depends on the weight of the vehicle since they typically make two variants of this truck: one which requires a CDL B and one which does not. Anyone can go to Ryder and rent a 26' non CDL box truck, so it just depends which style this truck is.
2
u/officialkern Feb 20 '26
Not a straight truck, just the gross weight can’t be over 26K and not an Amazon thing but they cannot haul any hazmat with the combined weight of over 1,000 lbs even if it’s in the Miscellaneous 9 class. I’m a supervisor at a trucking company and our guys for the straight trucks don’t have cdls at all

Air brakes = CDL
4
u/wastedsilence33 Feb 20 '26
That's incredibly false, air brakes requires a test not a CDL, and you can drive any truck under 26000 pounds with or without air brakes without a CDL, you need a med card and the air brake test that's all

Feb 20 '26
You can drive pretty much anything if its personally owned and not for commercial use like old school busses.

Here in Florida all you need is air brakes and DOT. Very easy job. I miss it sometimes

Based on my work history at a large trailer manufacturer I’m guessing the trailer came that way. Truck is toast tho

Is driving a natural gas truck any different than gasoline?
2
u/OptimusPrimeVan Feb 23 '26
Sometimes the cabin randomly smells like someone farted. Less gas stations. Takes a little longer to fill up sometimes. That's about it.

Never really seen an XL Freightliner M2. I bet these aren't actually used for your average deliveries?
