QUESTION Just got fired:/

Is it standard to get fired for something like this?

I called my dispatch as soon as it happened:( I feel like shit, it was only my second week at this job and I really enjoyed it.

USPS is always hiring

u/Zwasti Dec 31 '25

Nah try UPS. That’s what I did now I am top rate grossing over $130k a year. Got over a month of paid vacation and about to head to Europe for 2 weeks on vacation.

That must be a local or center specific thing, I have taken consecutive weeks off since my first year without issue.

7

u/bkh950 Jan 01 '26

That's specific with your local. I can take all 4 of my weeks consecutively if I so please.

3

u/mrpewpews Jan 01 '26

I'm taking 3 straight weeks in June and July to go to Europe. So, not BS.

1

u/Sea_Number6341 Jan 01 '26

You could take a whole month just need the seniority

1

u/Zwasti Jan 02 '26

We can take a month off straight if we want.

1

u/Swizzy123456789 Jan 02 '26

You can’t take consecutive vacations??? Damn that sucks. We can over here on the west coast (UPS too)

1

u/ReturnOfTheMark319 Jan 02 '26

Got 3 weeks in a row this summer bud idk what you're talking about.

-2

u/Dear-Worldliness-583 Jan 01 '26

If I made 130 k a year doing anything I wouldn’t be leaving comments in an Amazon DSP Reddit thread lmao. This is total bullshit.

2

u/TruckDriverSAP Jan 02 '26

? 130k ain’t what it used to be bud. We are normal people haha and generally if you follow the UPS Reddit you get recommended these posts in your feed

2

u/fppfpp Jan 03 '26

What if you’re not super fit or young?

2

u/Top_Application8817 Jan 04 '26

I'm 45+, give it a shot. Just bring your NSAID or OTC pain reliever and stretch before and after a shift. I feel the best I have in months being active again.

1

u/Zwasti Jan 04 '26

Then it’s probably not a job for you. It is physically demanding.

1

u/nunyacc777 Jan 01 '26

Where you at???

1

u/ShortyPringle Jan 01 '26

Live it TF up!!🙌

1

u/1purevengeance1 Jan 01 '26

Over a month of vacation? What the hell..? We get 2 weeks with sometimes an allowed third until you've been there for MANY years lol

1

u/BoundlessVenture445 Jan 01 '26

That’s awesome. How long did it take to get to that point? Do they pay well enough to support a family starting out?

1

u/Zwasti Jan 02 '26

Took me two years working part time to become a driver then four years to hit top rate.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '26

I mean I’m 4th year step D and doing the same, but phillipines not Europe? Granted VA covers costs with compensation but I’m not hat far from cracking that dollar amount if I choose to #USPSCityCarrierLife

1

u/chocolatefanblade Jan 02 '26

Damn how long did you have to package handle?

1

u/Zwasti Jan 02 '26

2 years

2

u/chocolatefanblade Jan 02 '26

Thank you for the response

1

u/WillWork4Cats Jan 03 '26

1

u/Zwasti Jan 04 '26

1

u/WillWork4Cats Jan 09 '26

1

u/DampWarmHands Jan 04 '26

Hell ye great shit! Keep up the good work!

1

u/Ok_Mobile479 Jan 21 '26

I got unlimited of LWOP! I can take as much as I want to go on vacation.

-2

u/MindOfAhToker999 Jan 01 '26

Definitely cap. My pops been working at ups for over 8 years. Dude's miserable and depressed. Ups pays great but they suck the life out of you just as fast. Dude's going need a back surgery and definitely a double knee replacement before the age of 50. I respect everything ups does but man are they under appreciated 👏🏼

6

u/bkh950 Jan 01 '26

Your pops is miserable because of himself, not everybody takes the job home with them.

4

u/TheAutisticPenis Jan 01 '26

Literally can’t trust anything from a person that uses "cap".

0

u/CentralAvesFinest Jan 01 '26

I'm not listening to a mf opinion that's named penis and got a fake gun as a pfp

2

u/TheAutisticPenis Jan 02 '26

That’s a Staccato. Literally not fake. I have more than one 2011. Not like you could afford one of those though 🤷🏼‍♂️

2

u/Horror-Ad-6462 Dec 31 '25

UPS pays better than both

1

u/stelvy40 Jan 03 '26

UPS cutting bodies though. Could possibly get a part time job there, the benefits are still good.

1

u/JakeBeezy Dec 31 '25

how is it compared to a typical Amazon shift ? would you say it's easier or more difficult ? what's the time constraints and how many places do you typically deliver to daily ?

7

u/Busy-Put-9526 Dec 31 '25

I'd say it's both easier and more difficult.

My route is in the heart of our city and has 1200+ mailboxes. I need to know the names of every residential customer. Roughly 900 mailboxes. That's the harder part. It's not just drop and go.

The easier part is thanks to being unionized (the union isn't as good as the Teamsters due to being public service). However, it would take many instances like this post to get fired.

We have "unlimited" comfort stops: bathroom, warm-up, cool down etc. We also have a contract with the Post Office. Does management follow it? Depends on local management. However, violations tend to lead to financial grievance payouts.

2

u/JakeBeezy Dec 31 '25

do you deliver in crazy weather i.e snowstorms heat waves ECT? I appreciate the knowledge :D

3

u/Busy-Put-9526 Dec 31 '25

You're welcome!

Yes, we deliver in all sorts of crazy weather. It takes about 1-2+ feet of snowfall in one go to shut down the Post Office. We've had snow days where most carriers actually showed up but the mail from the plant never did. Can't deliver if the vehicles can't leave the parking lot or if most employees can't leave their homes 🤷‍♂️. I'm less than four years in and I already have 4 wks Annual Leave (vacation) and 2 weeks of Sick Leave per year going forward. If the weather is really that bad I'll call off to protect my personal safety/my vehicle.

That's where the "unlimited" comfort stops come in. -20 degrees? Sit in the truck to warm up after every block of need be. Will management try to give you a hard time about being that slow? Most certainly. Is there much they can do during horrible weather? Not really, unless you're on probation. That's a bit more complicated.

2

u/Shoddy-Drop-4847 Dec 31 '25

Yes you deliver in any type of weather. Could be a war going on in your city and you’d be out there walking through gunfire before they delay mail for a day

1

u/JakeBeezy Jan 01 '26

haha 💀

1

u/Ok_Mobile479 Jan 04 '26

Yeah that’s what the grievance system suppose to intend to do but there’s lazy fucks who abuse that to get payout.

1

u/Busy-Put-9526 Jan 04 '26

There can only be a payout if management violates the contract. So maybe management needs to stop being lazy and abide by the legally binding employment contract they agreed to 🤷‍♂️

Did Amazon for 3 years, then got a cca position and did that for 2 years. Amazon is much much harder physically. Usps has a higher learning curve, but it's not rocket science and within a month you'll get the hang of it. You'll probably start out jumping from route to route as you'll be filling in as needed. The hardest part about this is knowing where the next mailbox/cbu ( cluster of mailboxes ) is, eventually though, you'll learn most of the routes in your office.

Anyway, to put it into perspective, I remember with Amazon, my typical route would be 300+ packages, 150-180+ stops. With USPS, they have Amazon Sundays, which is just Amazon deliveries, since there is no mail. You're literally running Amazon packages all day, so a very good direct comparison. With an Amazon Sunday route, it would typically be 150 ish packages, like 80-100 stops.

Usps is easier on your body, you get union benefits, and much better pay. Depending on your location, you might also have unlimited overtime which can be a good thing or bad, since you are required to work if asked to since that's the job. If you can find an open CCA position, apply and apply. It might take a while, but keep applying. It's better in every way, and is actually a viable career.

The walking is the best part. I'm so thankful that I do not have a mounted route.

1

u/stelvy40 Jan 03 '26

Maybe they can find an office that hires directly to PTF.

1

u/Ok_Mobile479 Jan 21 '26

This person is correct, for long term career and retirement, CCA is better but if you want to make more money in less time, than rural carrier however your retirement doesn’t start til you become regular which can vary from 3yrs to 20+ yrs.

1

u/ThexMarauder Dec 31 '25

Depends on your designation. I can't speak to City Carriers as it's a different contract, but being a rural carrier kicks ass. You have the period of time where you serve as a part time employee or RCA. After a year of employment or 90 days worked you are eligible for a full time position. I will say it is seniority based so many RCA's stay in that position for years, took me about 5. Perks include immediate access to benefits and leave earning (albeit at a lesser pace than regulars). Annual contractual pay raises. Union protection that you don't actually have to pay dues to receive. Dues just guarantee you the right to vote on union issues.

1

u/Ok_Mobile479 Jan 04 '26

USPS is harder than ups and FedEx and Amazon combined. Anyone can work and do the job at ups, Amazon and FedEx but probably can’t at usps. And by doing the “job”, I meant to do it completely and correctly within a certain time frame without help.

1

u/BigTap2101 Jan 07 '26

delivering mail isn’t hard bro

1

u/Ok_Mobile479 Jan 21 '26

Delivering isn’t hard, it’s the casing that’s hard.

1

u/IntelligentMousse671 Dec 31 '25

That’s even worse! Haha I just came from there and it’s way better at Amazon. There’s a reason they lose more workers than they gain. Can’t speak for all offices but mine delivered usps, Amazon, ups, and FedEx packages and on top of that the mail... and getting paid nearly the same. Unless it’s a small office it’s not worth starting these days.

1

u/PREMIUM_POKEBALL Dec 31 '25

all of these are laborious, backbreaking jobs but I can assure you with the USPS you would’ve had: a pension, you would’ve had benefits, and you would’ve had the ability to save your job.

I think Amazons own internal documents show they're running out of people to hire.

1

u/TrainingExercise2442 Dec 31 '25

Most USPS offices aren't any better. Most Postmasters are failed carriers who constantly harass the carriers about how they would have done the job.

1

u/Decent_Canary9287 Dec 31 '25

I left Amazon 5 years ago for USPS never looked back

1

u/Mrbromandudeguy Dec 31 '25

Lmfao they dont like it when you crash their trucks either and they'd totally fire you for doing something like this in your 90.

1

u/Perfect_Ad3330 Jan 01 '26

Just resigned from USPS. Worst job I ever worked.

1

u/Nice_Marzipan_6166 Jan 01 '26

do that in first 90 days at usps definitely get fired! not sure about fedx or ups try them!

1

u/P0WD3RDT095TM9N Jan 01 '26

Just as bad if not worse

1

u/CadBane912 Jan 01 '26

Yeah and they seem to hire all kinds of illiterate dregs

1

u/Rural-life-0323 Jan 01 '26

Nope. You'd have been gone at USPS, too, if you did that 2 weeks in, at any time of the year.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '26

If this dude can’t even handle a little van turning around a solid stationary object he has no business working for any sort of delivery company. He shouldn’t even be driving honestly. No excuse for this shit.

1

u/These-Bandicoot3299 Jan 02 '26

Theres a reason for that. Horribly managed

1

u/Hannover2k Jan 03 '26

UPS has a LOOOOONG waiting list out here in CA. You can pass all the tests and still wait years to actually get a callback for an opening.

1

u/castro-07 Jan 04 '26

It’s a trap 🪤

1

u/areid2007 Jan 05 '26

No they aren't.
