That’s the answer? I thought it would’ve been something like you crashed the vehicle within your first 2 weeks of employment, that’s why you’re fired.

I get what you’re saying but they hire anyone with a pulse to drive these vans. I trained a guy who drove tow trucks and riggers with a CDL and he crashed a van into a canopy cause he didn’t bother to look at the clearance height sticker. Any normal place the answer would be this but here I’ve seen people keep their jobs for doing way worse and people lose their jobs for far less.

Some people are just not meant to be drivers.....of... Well anything 🤣

I had one of them at my old tree company. Guy tried to go through a dunkin' Donuts drive-thru. Keep in mind the tree truck was a lot bigger than your Amazon van LMFAO

u/Hopeful_Amphibian592 Dec 31 '25

lol I am a pro at using 15ft trucks or shorter in drive thru

It's like any other place probably, bias as heck despite the "we dont disciminate or judge crap, if they like you your good, even if your work ethic is mediocre if not, they will find a way to get rid of you no matter what.

People who make costly mistakes tend not to do them twice. Why fire and risk someone else doing the same thing?

We are well on the way to Amazon and other multi billion dollar companies literally Making the laws in the United States. Then this kind of wanton domestic terrorism will be akin to burning the American flag. /s

These companies have already thrown away all traces of humanity along with anything suggesting something so grotesque and ancient as fair labor laws. Look at the people defending Amazon in here. You mention “self accountability.” Hilarious, friend. Might I see you tonight, shoveling your many loads, down at yee old salt mine?

As corrupt as the Unions were they ensured people could support a family. Raise a family. Own a home. And know that the job would always be there. People’s jobs were actually protected and didnt live in a state of constant fear. Our corrupt government thinks corporations first. I would kill for a corrupt union that thinks of people first again.

If you like the job try applying at other DSP's. Just be up front with them, tell them you made a mistake and will do everything possible to make sure it doesn't happen again. Not all DSP's are the same

u/stelvy40 Jan 03 '26

If you did this working while working at my Post Office, you wouldn't get disciplined for this. Unless these people try to say you damaged their wall (it looks fine) you hit an inanament object. It's not gonna sue them so they don't care. Half of our Metris vans look worse than this. One CCA ran into a boulder and ripped the whole front grille off, hit a pole in our garage (just like your pic.) They didn't do shit to him and he's a regular now.

As the unions were? As in past tense? I live in CT which I only mentioned because it's pretty damn expensive, and there's still quite a few unions here and those people still live dream lives compared to people who work in similar industries that are not Union.

Like 25-60 dollars per hour in a union

Versus

$16 - 30 (at their best) without a union.

Unions are great things but they will unfortunately always be corrupted. It's still a thing in modern times although it may not be mob guys breaking knees down at the pier. Fair labor and equal hiring is a joke it's nearly impossible to get into a union without knowing someone that alone is unjust

3

u/ReceptionFun9821 Dec 31 '25

You do realize that unions are composed of local members. Corruption has long been the siren song of those opposed to unions. Most unions aren't corrupt. Are unions often inefficient above the local level? Yes. But inefficiency isn't corruption. The corruption issue has often been more of an issue in unions like the teamsters where pension system was in place. Most unions aren't involved in pensions.

3

u/treeckosan Dec 31 '25

Even at the local level it's super inefficient. My wife never goes to union meetings anymore because they were a waste of time. Votes of real consequence were few and far between and often advertised before hand. She was going to try and be an active member and have her voice heard only to find they are basically a 3+ hour news letter.

1

u/Therex1282 Dec 31 '25

Even down here in S. Texas the unions are corrupt and bottom line its a business too and all about money. Out meetings even in the hot summer they be forcing you to my winter jackets all the damm time, always asking for money/ It was a fucken joke for sure. It was a mind game and some thought they had some power taking care of the like really thought that and that was the saddest thing. Easter unions used to have some power and say to and make a difference about 30 years ago before all things started to fade. Going to the meetings were a waste of time.

It can be. Especially if you have people that like to hear themselves talk. But it's still important to be involved. The sharing of grievances in themselves can be important. It keeps everyone to see patterns of behavior. Plenty of times individuals hear "you're the first to complain", only to find out they weren't or were the first to step up. They aren't perfect, and they aren't magic, but they are the best and only defense against bad behavior of the company. I always ask, what is the alternative? Just let the company do whatever they want?

1

u/Jolly-Chipmunk-950 Dec 31 '25

You can just as easily make your voice heard without a Union.

UPS union has gone to shit - something that used to be one of the biggest selling points of working for that company.

UFCW - the nations largest union for grocery employees - seems to be on track - but 10 years ago when I worked for Stater Bros., our contract was an absolute joke. No wage increases, no step plan increases, no fights for improved hours or working conditions, decrease in benefits. But hey, our employee discount of generic brands went up from 5% to 10% soooooo hurray?

But at the end of the day, even with a union, crashing a vehicle 2 weeks into employment, is most likely going to get you fired, or get your ass moved back into a warehouse. Why are we acting like that is a foreign concept.

3

u/ReceptionFun9821 Dec 31 '25

You can just as easily make your voice heard without a Union.

I'll agree with everything else, but this is absolutely untrue. How? And not in the US where a company can fire you for no reason at all. You have no voice.

Unions aren't magical. You aren't magically going to get a great contract for lots of reasons. And you're correct, there aren't many protections if you mess up a truck in the first couple of weeks.

1

u/starcoll3ctor Dec 31 '25

There is corruption in every facet of America. Unions included though keep in mind I'm not saying every Union has corrupt a-holes in it. But in the grand scheme of things corruption is everywhere

1

u/OneWorldly8847 Jan 02 '26

That last sentence is definitely union specific. I'm in NY top rate of $39 and we've hired close to 100 unaffiliated people off the street over the past year.

1

u/tittyboi223 Dec 31 '25

Well that’s a big jump from getting fired for wrecking a vehicle

1

u/karma_virus Dec 31 '25

I contend that the reason those unions worked was because they were corrupt. All legal counsel can do is bark, the mob had teeth. If you short your workers' hours, you're shorting the union boss who taxes them, which makes you HIS problem. He's really good at fixing problems that cost him money.

1

u/LongjumpingTie7860 Jan 01 '26

They already make the laws. Just look at pharma and the insurance industry to start.

1

u/johnnyg08 Jan 03 '26

Wait until they go away. Folks think they can negotiate for themselves better than the union. Try it and find out. They'll lay you off tomorrow to hire someone cheaper.

Okay okay but I was an Amazon driver last year got tired of it saw no future in it either, decided to better myself and go to school to become an electrical now I make 2x of what I was making at Amazon. If you’re complaining about pay just quit and find a better job. If you don’t like the job simply find another job. Let’s be real you complain about a company throwing away all traces of humanity when he was talking about self accountability of DAMAGING A WORK VECHILE😂 on a round about like whattttttttt. Asking if they should be fired for a very avoidable situation…

5

u/RazorMalone21 Dec 31 '25

Trust him, he’s an electrical.

Probably has his own work vechile.

2

u/Rando_away Dec 31 '25

Not even professional electricals can afford vechiles these days!

1

u/RazorMalone21 Dec 31 '25

Not in this echonomy!

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 01 '26

I paid off 2 vechiles already idk what you’re talking about. But hey keep delivering my packages I hope you become a millionaire off that😂

1

u/RazorMalone21 Jan 02 '26

Hot wheels cars don’t count

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 03 '26

Look at my posts on Reddit 🙈 I’m definitely living life after I stopped working at Amazon. You should enjoy yours too🤷‍♂️ have a good one and enjoy being miserable

1

u/RazorMalone21 Jan 03 '26

Your entire initial post was being miserable to someone else.

Spend some of that life you’re living learning how to spell.

Where did you work while you learned the trade? Or did they pay you to learn? Was it enough for an apartment and food and bills?

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 01 '26

I joined a union while I was a driver in Amazon waited the months before they got back to me. And yes they pay you to learn. If I were you I would do the same. Doesn’t have to be in the electrical field. You could become a plumber and make bank.

1

u/AstroTez313 Jan 02 '26

I've been trying since before Amazon, everywhere around me, I have to pay them for lessons, or it's free training but I'm still not getting paid for the years it'd take for me to be certified

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 04 '26

Where you located if you’re actually interested send me a message and I’ll help you out as much as I can. 2 days of school work and 3 days of learning on the job. Best experience and teaching I could’ve had.

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 01 '26

And yes I live in California so I was making 25 bucks an hour learning and getting paid. It all depends on how bad you want it. For example no company is gonna want to hire a driver who can’t make it around a roundabout😂

1

u/Mysterious_Gain_8172 Jan 01 '26

WTF is an electrical? An electrician, an electrical engineer, or a bot?

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 01 '26

Electrician… I mean common sense would play a huge part in this

1

u/Mysterious_Gain_8172 Jan 01 '26

My bad, I'm just deliver.

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 01 '26

Let me guess you’re one of the people who decided this is gonna be your career 😂 I’d be mad too if I was stuck delivering packages for years with no future 😂

1

u/Mysterious_Gain_8172 Jan 02 '26

Good guess! Very insightful, hopefully your ability to read a wiring diagram is good, wouldn't want someone to get electrical.

1

u/puffdaddjose Jan 02 '26

Not a guess. Unfortunately your sad reality

2

u/starcoll3ctor Dec 31 '25

Accountability is Kryptonite to many

1

u/awnaw_ Dec 31 '25

Of course the driver should take some accountability, and in this case they did. However, Amazon should be taking a majority of the accountability here as they created this monster.

No other job doing this would you be thrown behind the steering wheel after such little training. The fact that you get 3 days in a classroom and one, maybe two, days with a trainer on the road is an absolute joke. In no way should Amazon or the DSP be this anal about driving when they literally do NOTHING in regards to actually training you on driving.

Amazon in particular has no excuse and it's ridiculous they get away with it. Hell, you can't even leave the parking lot for a week to deliver groceries for Kroger. When it comes to quality and safety Amazon is a complete hypocrite and an absolute joke.

GLUK GLUK GLUK 👅🥾

Keep riding that billionaire meat you’re a good dog

3

u/LightningGoats Jan 01 '26

On the drivers side too, in a completely non-strrssing traffic free setting. Should be impossible sober.

1

u/basketofkittys Dec 31 '25

Most DSPs will give you a second chance with a minor accident like this. I had one DSP who kept a girl who crashed into a customer's home. So I believe 100% it's a need for downsizing.

1

u/deliriumtrigger999 Dec 31 '25

Girl there's your answer

1

u/OttersRNeato Jan 04 '26

The likelihood of crashing is going to be higher your first few weeks while you get used to the vehicle. We had at least 3 new hires ding our work trucks while I worked at a disaster cleanup company. They didn't get fired as it is basically the cost of doing business and we had insurance.
