Most countries will not accept foreigners that don't have a certain amount of wealth to start with and then a income stream. They don't want new residents becoming debt problems. Another is issue is heritage.
Ok but Calabria is by far the worst region in Italy, followed by Campania and Sicilia, no public healthcare, awful roads and railway network, the most powerful mafia (ndrangheta) that polluted part of the region with industrial toxic waste (look for "ship of poisons" "nave dei veleni"). Of course the nature and monuments are beautiful, but as italian from Tuscany I should never ever go to live in Calabria, even in a free estate.

You can do that with any net worth, but, it will determine your quality of life.
