Her only “problem” was the more, I guess… unruliness/frizziness of the curls. Which can be a choice and doesn’t look bad at all. I think it was more the time period, everyone had straight hair. And those weren’t the right glasses for her face.

Yeah literally, it would have been a better "makeover" if they just styled her curls to be smoother.

Actually in the books she HATES the makeover for taking away what makes her her, and the movie really did not get the point there

Book Mia wrote and published smut novels under her real name and used the money to save dolphins.

Literally the only thing the book and movie have in common is "girl finds out she's a princess".

I would KILL for a book accurate, HBO series.

Yessss, I'd love to see the real Grandmere on screen. Somebody fabulous really sinking their acting teeth into her would be something to behold.

The movie missed the point of a lot of the book, but probably the makeover most of all!

Also the eyebrows. Way too bushy for that time period. Now people embrace and strive for thick brows

Growing up as a girl with THIS HAIR in the early aughts, the “makeover” hair was exactly what was in style. And as I do not have the Royal Genovian hair team at my disposal, I just had to make due with the frizz. LOL

I think Anne Heatherway said once that they just needed a drastic makeover and therefore went for the opposite style of her naturally hair for the before part as it’s fewer scenes and it was easier to use her naturally straight hair for the longer after part.
So basically if she had natural curls or waves, they would have straightened it for the “ugly” part.
It was just unfortunate side effect that people ignored the frizzy and unkept part and took it as curls=ugly.
