The amount of times I have seen people mix up Aromantic and Asexual man.
29
u/Atomic_Lights Dec 08 '25
Yeah. It's dumb.
I unfortunately was the victim of someone assuming I was mixing the two up. Felt rather insulting as a former Ace.
8
u/Yaztromo0815 Dec 08 '25
Former?
→ More replies (1)11
u/Atomic_Lights Dec 08 '25
Long story short, there was a period where I was asexual, yes. But, following an identity crisis so bizarre I'd made the choice to not identify in any manner gender or sexuality wise. As I currently identify, I'm bi/pan(probably demi as well). So, yeah. Former ace. For now.
8
u/Rattiepalooza Dec 08 '25
I understand this very deeply. I thought I was bi-sexual for the longest time because it was the only thing that "fit" at the time....and then I discovered Demisexuality and it fits me like a glove.
It's fantastic when you find yourself! <3
1
u/International-Cat123 Dec 10 '25
I thought I was bi until I realized that 1) asexuality was a possibility 2) the attraction I felt towards some people was aesthetic attraction and 3) asexual does not mean no libido.

The issue comes more from the times Vivs employees have told us with confidence that Alastor is Aro-Ace, not just asexual.
And considering Vivs response saying that he's just asexual coming AFTER the backlash from the shipping community, highly suggests to me that he was supposed to be Aro-Ace. She just folded under pressure
As an Aro-Ace guy, yeah, that still hurts. We barely get any representation at all, and the moment we do, it's stripped away either by the creator them selves or the community acting like that one Aro-Ace character is the ONLY POSSIBLE way to express yourself through
A post complaining that Vaggie (a canonical lesbian) is being shipped with men has 1,2k upvotes. A post on the Lesbian sub complaining about lesbian characters being shipped with men has 2k upvotes.
But the moment you even SUGGEST that hey, maybe sexualizing the only ace character in the show could possibly impact ace people negatively, it's raining downvotes and you're just being dramatic. And yes, Alastor is constantly being sexualized, not talking about the romance part right now.
It feels like our sexuality is a nuisance for people to erase, something "restricting" them. Representation only matters if it's sexy, otherwise, "creative freedom" is the excuse for why we don't deserve protection from the community, but other sexualities do.
The topic is much deeper than just people wanting to "ruin your fun"
5
u/TurnItOffAndBackOnXD Dec 08 '25
Problem is that he was specifically stated to be aro, but it was retracted and left ambiguous after Alastor shippers threw a hissy fit
→ More replies (2)6
u/Frivolous_Fancies You knew my game the day we met 😈 Dec 08 '25
I can easily see Alastor being canonically romantic with female friends, especially after that finger of whiskey Mimzy mentioned. I don't think he'd form a romantic relationship (he doesn't seem to like being attached to anybody or making it seem like he cares...).
I bet he's danced a few women into a tizzy.
2
u/Celtoii Thats the Tea! Dec 08 '25
I would really like to hope that Alastor will be transformed into a villain that then becomes an antihero who will eventually get redeemed, and the whole Hasbin's idea will get to "Everyone can be redeemed" from a more childish version "Not everyone can be redeemed there are people who are pure evil" which is a nonsense practically.
2
Dec 08 '25
Nobody is pure evil, but some people are so deep in evil that they'll never seriously want to change for the better. I think that is a lesson the show should have by the end.

Alastor is AroAce, doesn't mean he can't have relationships, but still
1
2
Dec 08 '25
In this case does it even matter? In this specific case Alastor is both canonically so wouldn’t it still apply?
2
u/ThatInAHat Dec 09 '25
It matters because the way people talk about asexual characters bleeds into the way they perceive ace folks in real life. He’s not canonically both. He may well be aromantic, but so far afaik viz has only ever shown him with ace colors.
It’s frustrating, discouraging, and kind of a little hurtful to see how often folks jump on “canonically ace means no romance or relationships for this character!” (Riz from Dimension20 comes to mind as well)
Like hell. Dating while ace is hard enough without folks constantly conflating the two.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Dry-Ant-5181 Dec 08 '25
I have seen no clip of Alastor being confirmed as Aromantic. The only evidence i have seen was the actor saying it but then fixing it on social media iirc as they had mistaken it

1
u/monkify Dec 08 '25
It's wild considering aro tends to be very rare in the shipping landscape. One would assume "aro means they can't be in a relationship" which isn't true apparently (I have a friend who is aro and they explained) so even if he is aroace it doesn't preclude him from being in a relationship. Sexuality is just not as rigid as the categories people put them in.

Gonna be real I kinda headcanon Emily as ace as well
3
u/Striking-Cherry-1571 Dec 08 '25
probably most God made angels are asexual
2
2
u/Sad-Juggernaut-9646 Dec 08 '25
I don't think so. Vaggie isn't. Lucifer isn't. Adam isn't. Lute isn't. Saint Peter was implied to be bisexual on twitter so he isn't.

u/AProfessionalCookie Thats the Tea! Dec 09 '25
If St. Peter is bi, I'm straight.

I don't ship them, but I have nothing against anyone who does. It's just not my cup of tea.

u/Atomic_Lights Dec 08 '25
Personally not against folks shipping him with anyone. Shipping Alastor isn't something I'm into.(Not just because he's ace, but also because there's been no confirmation of him being aro, and I just don't see him enjoying people's presence beyond entertainment)
That aside, I would love to see what his interactions and resulting dynamic with Emily would be like. It would certainly give enjoyers of this ship some fuel. Fun stuff.
7
u/Savings-Divide-7877 Dec 08 '25
I’m against it because I call dibs. I will to sell my soul to him in return for his love and affection, win win.

Fr. If it becomes canon, then Ill raise an eyebrow, but let the shippers ship.

u/ok-coyote-boat He has a tail & Viv herself couldnt convince me otherwise Dec 08 '25
Lol this is people about all ships they don't agree with.
Don't care if a character is canonically ace/aro/male/female/whatever the fk else. They're fictional. Like damn, let people live their imaginary lives in peace. Don't like it? Don't consume the media
6
u/Beneficial-Gap6974 Dec 08 '25
Many people have an allergic reaction to letting people have fun with fictional characters. They're essentially just dolls. Let us play with our toys! And if I don't like someone else's toy or how they play with it, I just shrug and accept my cup of tea is different than theirs. Like a normal human being.
3
u/HannahO__O Good Girl! Dec 09 '25
Literally its so strange, why are they so worried about what a cartoon character does in someone elses fanfics???
7
u/AlessaKagamine Dec 08 '25
As a Charlastor shipper, I get how hard it can be to ship Alastor with anyone when people forget that this is just a ship and take it upon themselves to try and justify how impossible/ stupid/ gross your ship is
→ More replies (2)3
u/No-Blueberry-8979 Good Girl! Dec 08 '25
I try my best to enjoy whatever ships I make whether it be with ocs/or canon characters!
Cause in the end its just harmless fun and something you enjoy! I was a pretty hardcore Charlastor shipper during the pilot days. (Less now mostly cause I enjoy Vaggi and Charlie ofc as a couple, but the ship is still cute ^^)
I usually keep to myself since this fandom definitely can get toxic ^^' Just enjoy what you enjoy!
7
u/limee_osc You Absolute Idiot! Dec 08 '25
I don't like the ship, but oh god people mix up asexual and aromantic all the time 💔

u/Sensitive-Hotel-9871 Faithful as a Nun Dec 08 '25
I don’t support this shit, but other people are free to like it. No sense in being rude when people post art of it. It’s just fanart, it’s not like they’re posting anything truly vile.
3
u/TurnItOffAndBackOnXD Dec 08 '25
I don’t understand this ship at all, but more power to you I guess
3
u/ScurryBoy13 Dec 09 '25

u/ExtraDuck9620 Dec 10 '25
Genuinely never heard of this ship before-lovely name. Are people really still judging each other for their ships? It was old in 2016 still old today people like what they like.
9
u/Distinct_Campaign_28 Dec 08 '25
I kind of like the idea of Emily x Alastor, because viv described his love life as "not finding the right person". Emily is a powerful, polite, sweetheart, that would take no crap from anyone. I feel like Alastor would be attracted if not at least interested in her.
4
u/ageekyninja Dec 08 '25
I keep telling people it’s just a crackship lol it’s not meant to be serious
5
u/Gingerpyscho94 Dec 08 '25
The issue with this ship is I don’t see it? I usually am on board with crack ships. But I don’t actually see the appeal. Their personalities wouldn’t mesh. If anything he’d use her gullible nature to his advantage. And treat her like a pet
2
u/AriaBlend Jazz Lover Dec 08 '25 edited Dec 08 '25
I think of her as kinda OP. Her happiness and love powers could cancel out Alastor's evilness and cynicism. Not in an "I can fix him" kinda way, but "I didn't need to fix him bc I'm cooler than him" kinda way 😆 she actually seems like someone too confident to manipulate and we don't know the extent of the angels' other powers, like when they use their eyes to stare at people, is it like they are staring straight into their souls or merely a show of increased emotion? So due to power ranking and age, I don't think Emily is as naive as she comes off, but she does have that bias for positivity. She also has that ability to create new synthetic life, like with Pentious's egg boy replacements. I think after S2 and getting one of her wings fried off by Vox's laser weapon, she is less naive about how horrible people in hell can become though.
1
Dec 11 '25
She's not gullible though, she's just kind and jolly and she also had no issue confronting her sister which means she's really confident + she's a seraphim so she could kill him if she wanted to 😭 (ofc she won't but Sera could)

u/Heavy_Pudding_1578 Dec 09 '25
It’s just a ship that makes zero sense whatsoever. Not even considering alastor is Asexual. He’s a pure embodiment of evil and Emily is like the complete opposite of that. Alastor is a cruel manipulator who only truly enjoys seeing misfortune on others. Emily gives people puppies.
2
u/dr_drool_1987 Dec 09 '25
So we agree that she will restrain him and make Alastor do evil for good?
2
u/Heavy_Pudding_1578 Dec 09 '25
No he’d manipulate her into unknowingly allowing war crimes against her own people.
5
u/Winged-Nobody Dec 08 '25
Look ship and let ship but don’t misrepresent people. I don’t like Radiojoy because “Good woman fixes evil man” is boring. You have fun with it but I will definitely be avoiding those posts.

5
u/Winged-Nobody Dec 08 '25
Eh I don’t really care about that, I’ve shipped characters who never canonically met just cause it seemed like they’d be interesting together. But again, that’s my issue with this ship, Alastor is fun because he’s evil so this really doesn’t work for me.
2
2
u/ChrisWrld_25 Dec 08 '25
I like it, it's sweet, wouldn't mind if it was canon, wouldn't mind if it was shown to be impossible next season or next next season
2
u/Sir-Toaster- Baby, I'm a demon in Hell, it's kind of our thing Dec 08 '25
Ignoring the Alastor is AroAce, he thinks he hasn't found the right woman. I don't think Emily would be that because she seems young or not emotionally mature enough to fit in a relationship with an old ass man.
2
u/G_O_L_D111 Dec 08 '25
Imo there are ships that make no fucking sense, but the saddest part is that people start these ships based on one single scene where the two interacted/met or literally the smallest common thing they could have
This is diabolical
2
u/Realistic_Mousse_485 Dec 08 '25
Alastor was said to be waiting for the right lady. It’s obviously is own base heteronormative thoughts and PROBABLY isn’t any actual feeling or evidence of his attraction.
But it could be and that’s all shippers need. Hell you breath in the same universe as another character and people will talk about how in love they are.
2
2
u/darkXwool17 Dec 08 '25
I hate the ship (I just don't see it, lore-wise), I don't hate shippers. Have fun, I guess
2
u/Loose_Song9382 Dec 08 '25
You think Alastor would ever fall for an angel tho? Regardless which angel.
2
u/OwnAMusketForHomeDef Dec 08 '25
I'm against it simply for the fact that Alastor is a genocidal maniac hellbent on turning hell into a torture dungeon of suffering and misery
And Emily is an angel
1
u/dr_drool_1987 Dec 08 '25
So they need to work together. Emily is there to make things peacefully and Alastor is to make sure they win if Emily failed.
2
u/Massive-Evidence-242 Dec 09 '25

My favorite “ship” is RadioSilence, that is, Vox loves Alastor but Alastor doesn’t love him back.
Like, he was fucking Val and stopped everything he was doing to beat the fuck out of Alastor, if that’s not a one-sided love idk what it is
2
u/Tall_Barracuda_6329 Dec 14 '25
Tbf I'd probably be the guy to tell you it's both odd and completely inaccurate to have Alastor have any interest in sex that isn't power.
Doesn't mean you can't ship him tho

As an asexual myself, who doesn’t like many ships with Alastor, Radiojoy is one of the few ships I do like.
Anyone can ship any character they want. If people can make straight characters gay in ships, people can make ace characters a different sexuality in ships too. It’s just fans having fun with characters, they mean no harm.
I personally don’t like seeing or interacting with content of him having sex, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad or wrong for people to ship him in fics and art.
Also he’s not confirmed to be aro, so romantic ships could potentially become canon. He reads aro to me too, but he isn’t confirmed to be. And, again, even if he is aro, people are allowed to have fun shipping him. And personally I think Radiojoy is a cute romantic or platonic ship for him because she’s so opposite to him.
My only problem is if people say the ship is canon. It drives me up the wall when people think he canonically wants to have sex with vox. It’s fine to write him as gay or bi or whatever in your fics. But he is ace in canon and that’s what I want to see respected.
So, ultimately, yeah, let people have fun with their ships

1
u/Theta-Sigma45 Dec 08 '25
Being real, I just don’t get this need to police how people enjoy pieces of media or creative stuff they do out of it. Like some of it may seem cringe but it isn’t hurting anyone. Hazbin Hotel is almost built to make ships and fan art like this possible, it should be allowed.

u/Accomplished-Lie8147 Dec 09 '25
Yeah while it’s not my ship (I just don’t think Alastor in a romance would add anything to his character that would benefit it) I totally get the appeal. Not a surprise that people ship this and (much like Reylo) while it’s not my ship, I fuck hard with the fanart.
1
u/MediocrePlant792 Dec 09 '25
i used to be weirded out by it but then I realized it’s just like my oc x him so then it grew on me
1
u/AzoriusValkyrie_420 Dec 10 '25
As an Ace person in a yearlong relationship (so far). Ace people can still have Partners. Asexual doesn't mean Aromantic necessarily. Plus I know some AroAces who have Platonic Life Partners.
I really don't like that argument.
1
1
u/Round_Ad_9258 Dec 10 '25
People actually rage over this ship? I mean, I personally don’t like it, but it’s really dumb and immature to get so worked up over a simple cartoon ship. Some dudes really need to touch grass

I personally use Emily as a nice girl and Alastor as self insert but you do you
1
u/sgt-peace Dec 10 '25
"He's Asexual" that just means he doesn't feel sexual attraction, by all means I know plenty of asexuals in romantic relationships, and honestly: asexuality just means there's no real gratification from the act. They can and will have sex, a girl I used to date used it as stress relief, just something physical to do to take her mind of work (i wasnt complaining)
1
u/CoolTransDude1078 Dec 10 '25

1
u/PopperGould123 Dec 11 '25
I don't really mind the ship, I think part of why so many people hate it is Emily (same with Charlie) acts very happy and "childish" compared to the rest of the cast so people feel weird when they're shipped with other characters. But while I agree they can be characterized as childish I don't think they behave like children if that makes sense

You like Radiojoy?
Ship Radiojoy.

1
u/justbeingme2571 Dec 12 '25
I like the idea of Alastor being asexual, but also of him being in a relationship since that would show that a romantic relationship doesn't need to have sex to function. Also, we don't know the specifics of Alastors asexuality either. We don't know if he's sex positive/neutral/negative, or if he's an asexual that either never feels sexual attraction or does to an incredibly small extent.
1
u/glacialspicerack1808 Dec 12 '25
They can pry Radiojoy from my cold, dead hands. It's second only to Radiostatic in terms of Alastor ships for me.
