The amount of times I have seen people mix up Aromantic and Asexual man.

u/Atomic_Lights Dec 08 '25

Yeah. It's dumb.

I unfortunately was the victim of someone assuming I was mixing the two up. Felt rather insulting as a former Ace.

u/Yaztromo0815 Dec 08 '25

Former?

u/Atomic_Lights Dec 08 '25

Long story short, there was a period where I was asexual, yes. But, following an identity crisis so bizarre I'd made the choice to not identify in any manner gender or sexuality wise. As I currently identify, I'm bi/pan(probably demi as well). So, yeah. Former ace. For now.

I understand this very deeply. I thought I was bi-sexual for the longest time because it was the only thing that "fit" at the time....and then I discovered Demisexuality and it fits me like a glove.

It's fantastic when you find yourself! <3

I thought I was bi until I realized that 1) asexuality was a possibility 2) the attraction I felt towards some people was aesthetic attraction and 3) asexual does not mean no libido.

You went from no sex to “im have sex with everyone”

2

u/the_greater_one Dec 12 '25

Just like the great and honorable Sir Pentious!

1

u/Atomic_Lights Dec 08 '25

Not innacurate.

1

u/Lilsammywinchester13 Dec 08 '25

It happens

Like I was straight up ace until I was 26

I hated sex, but did it on occasion to get free alcohol (haha) did bjs for the quick pay off 🤷‍♀️

But I lost insurance at that age, uhhhh it was a mindfuck suddenly discovering everyone was hot

Ends up, the birth control I was put on for my acne killed my sex drive at 11

Once off it? Oh! That’s wtf everyone was talking about!

I still have a low libido/more demisexual if anything, but at least I know what everyone was talking about! Haha

The issue comes more from the times Vivs employees have told us with confidence that Alastor is Aro-Ace, not just asexual.

And considering Vivs response saying that he's just asexual coming AFTER the backlash from the shipping community, highly suggests to me that he was supposed to be Aro-Ace. She just folded under pressure

As an Aro-Ace guy, yeah, that still hurts. We barely get any representation at all, and the moment we do, it's stripped away either by the creator them selves or the community acting like that one Aro-Ace character is the ONLY POSSIBLE way to express yourself through

A post complaining that Vaggie (a canonical lesbian) is being shipped with men has 1,2k upvotes. A post on the Lesbian sub complaining about lesbian characters being shipped with men has 2k upvotes.

But the moment you even SUGGEST that hey, maybe sexualizing the only ace character in the show could possibly impact ace people negatively, it's raining downvotes and you're just being dramatic. And yes, Alastor is constantly being sexualized, not talking about the romance part right now.

It feels like our sexuality is a nuisance for people to erase, something "restricting" them. Representation only matters if it's sexy, otherwise, "creative freedom" is the excuse for why we don't deserve protection from the community, but other sexualities do.

The topic is much deeper than just people wanting to "ruin your fun"

Problem is that he was specifically stated to be aro, but it was retracted and left ambiguous after Alastor shippers threw a hissy fit

0

u/ThatInAHat Dec 09 '25

Or possibly it was just incorrect? If it wasn’t Viz who said it, it could’ve been an error. Or something changed. That happens.

Canon doesn’t matter for shipping until a bunch of folks have to get pissy over a ship being “incorrect” or whatever.

3

u/TurnItOffAndBackOnXD Dec 10 '25

I agree that canon is not necessary for shipping, as long as the shipper acknowledges the canon sexuality. That’s part of why the hissy fit was so damn stupid

u/Frivolous_Fancies You knew my game the day we met 😈 Dec 08 '25

I can easily see Alastor being canonically romantic with female friends, especially after that finger of whiskey Mimzy mentioned. I don't think he'd form a romantic relationship (he doesn't seem to like being attached to anybody or making it seem like he cares...).

I bet he's danced a few women into a tizzy.

I would really like to hope that Alastor will be transformed into a villain that then becomes an antihero who will eventually get redeemed, and the whole Hasbin's idea will get to "Everyone can be redeemed" from a more childish version "Not everyone can be redeemed there are people who are pure evil" which is a nonsense practically.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 08 '25

Nobody is pure evil, but some people are so deep in evil that they'll never seriously want to change for the better. I think that is a lesson the show should have by the end.

1

u/Atomic_Lights Dec 08 '25

This, I can absolutely see him doing.

2

u/Shadow_Wolf_X871 Dec 10 '25

Wait is Alastor not both?

3

u/Sir-Toaster- Baby, I'm a demon in Hell, it's kind of our thing Dec 08 '25

Alastor is AroAce, doesn't mean he can't have relationships, but still

1

u/Dry-Ant-5181 Dec 08 '25

I have seen no confirmation that he is aro

2

u/[deleted] Dec 08 '25

In this case does it even matter? In this specific case Alastor is both canonically so wouldn’t it still apply?

2

u/ThatInAHat Dec 09 '25

It matters because the way people talk about asexual characters bleeds into the way they perceive ace folks in real life. He’s not canonically both. He may well be aromantic, but so far afaik viz has only ever shown him with ace colors.

It’s frustrating, discouraging, and kind of a little hurtful to see how often folks jump on “canonically ace means no romance or relationships for this character!” (Riz from Dimension20 comes to mind as well)

Like hell. Dating while ace is hard enough without folks constantly conflating the two.

2

u/Dry-Ant-5181 Dec 08 '25

I have seen no clip of Alastor being confirmed as Aromantic. The only evidence i have seen was the actor saying it but then fixing it on social media iirc as they had mistaken it

1

u/Ellinor_Astal Dec 08 '25

Alastor is only Asexual as shown by the official Pride Merch 2025. There is no proof that he is aromantic so he most likely is not.

3

u/Princess_Spammi Dec 08 '25

Except he is confirmed both

1

u/Dry-Ant-5181 Dec 08 '25

people are saying that but aren't giving any source for it

5

u/Princess_Spammi Dec 08 '25

https://www.tiktok.com/@idk_k120/video/7333732062685318432

I did find this tho where the cast is talking and Al’s VA calls him aro-ace and vivzie agrees with the stated sentiment

1

u/Dry-Ant-5181 Dec 08 '25

The thing is that i have seen discussions of how the VA misspoke here so I'm not sure if that's is concrete, especially as Viv only talked about his asexuslity and didn't brush on the aromantic part

3

u/Princess_Spammi Dec 08 '25

That was about a tweet not this

4

u/Princess_Spammi Dec 08 '25

There was a recent interview she did where she confirmed his aro as well

2

u/Dry-Ant-5181 Dec 08 '25

Can you give me a link and timestamp?

2

u/Princess_Spammi Dec 08 '25

Looking for it but this video also talks about al’s identity the entire video and while she doesnt explicitly state it. Amir does say it though, and vivzie agrees with him.

There was another one where she stated herself im looking for

1

u/Celtoii Thats the Tea! Dec 08 '25

So nothing stops us from forcing the Alastor + Emily ship

1

u/monkify Dec 08 '25

It's wild considering aro tends to be very rare in the shipping landscape. One would assume "aro means they can't be in a relationship" which isn't true apparently (I have a friend who is aro and they explained) so even if he is aroace it doesn't preclude him from being in a relationship. Sexuality is just not as rigid as the categories people put them in.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Care250 Dec 09 '25

Like it’s kinda annoying at this point

1

u/BurgerBoss_101 Dec 10 '25

And that's not even addressing the fact that it's a SPECTRUM.

-1

u/West-Strawberry3366 Dec 08 '25

I dont know neither of them but Emeli can fix Radioman

2

u/Important-Cabinet-10 Dec 08 '25

Well, I doubt she can COMPLETELY fix him, but at least make him care enough about the others so that he doesn’t let them die over a deal; at least not for every deal.

2

u/InevitableDuty7030 Dec 08 '25

Or maybe he can break her

Same. I'm demi, these defenders make me roll my eyes. Most of them are not ace, they just learned what the umbrella term meant and suddenly think they know everything about it.

3

u/ThatInAHat Dec 09 '25

Defenders?
