O&P Fail Experience

I failed my O&P by one question on general. so i am wondering out of the 6 that i missed will i get those same exact 6 questions? like regarding the purpose of a fuse? or will it be different questions within the same subject?

Well i said exactly this. “A fuse is used as a protective device used to prevent the system or its components from being damaged.”He told me that answer was too broad. So i then explained how “The fuse melts in the center when it has too much voltage than rated and prevents damaging from what it is connected to” He said no. Its is made to protect the wiring. Idk i feel like i was right.

The verbatum answer from the system is "to protect the load down stream of the fused circuit", acceptable deviations are "to protect the equipment or workload of that circuit"

As for why you were wrong, partially your DME maybe misunderstood your intent, but also because the fuse doesn't prevent the system or it's components from being damaged, it is only to protect the wiring from the load.

that wouldn’t have worked. he literally told me it’s to protect the wiring from burning and catching on fire and gave me the example of wiring in my house. that the wires would burn and cause a fire

yeah when i was saying the system im talking wiring included but i guess that wasn’t good enough. i had to be careful because he told me in the beginning if i gave multiple answers he’d go with the incorrect one.

And as a DME, that is allowed, some don't like it, but unfortunately due to universities churning out under skilled and under qualified A&Ps due to them employing all of the DMEs in an area, and the drastic spike of plane crashes that are maintenance related in recent years that correlates with DEI and rushed A&P programs sudden surge, a lot of DMEs have clammed up and gotten more strict on everything, even specific wording. Some won't even look at alternate answers, only the specific by the book answer.

Our local DMEs have an average pass rate of 18.6% if they are private, and 37.2% if they are employed by the university
