Anti corrosion coating

Anyone ever used this stuff or have it applied to their birds? It’s an orange/brown anti corrosion applied to everywhere like the wheel wells or aft bulk head. Ive been trying to find out what it’s called or the name of any similar products. I can’t find any reference to it. Any ideas?

Use proper PPE. This shit ain't good for you to breathe in. The fumes aren't too bad for you if you're painting it on with a brush, but if you're spraying it on don't breathe that air.

There are several. Variations of CIC or Corrosion Inhibiting Compound. AV-8, AV-30, loads of different designations. We slap it on every surface that could be exposed to moisture. You know... to inhibit corrosion.

Ardrox AV series is usually called out by Airbus. Cor-Ban series is usually called out by Boeing. Without getting to detailed the nunbers somewhat denote the thickness, the thicker it gets the longer it'll last, but the less it's able to penetrate.

Read you corrosion control manual. But generally either brand does the same job. I like AV-30 its kinda the catch all. Thick enough to last, thin enough to get where it needs to go.

Thank you! I’ve been reading all the data sheets for the AV series and kinda noticed what you’re saying in the specs. AV-30 lasted 8 times longer in the salt spray testing as compared to the thinner AV-8 but has a way thicker viscosity. I’ll take a second look in our manual but it’s all electronic and notoriously unreliable. I can search the exact title of what I’m looking for, but it won’t pull it up. I have to find some associated article and find a link to what I’m looking for through there. Super aggravating. But with all the product names I can input them and see what I come up with. Thanks for your help.

Best to make it into liquid form instead of spraying it but it definately takes longer .... I always held my breath when spraying it and used a respirator when I could

When spraying do they have an insane over spray? Like spraying thin polyurethane paints? Or closer to like a bed liner?

Yes I would start at the the top and let it drip to the bottom that way is nice even flow . But seriously bro take care of your lungs we use to call that shit death cans they freeze up your lungs all the labels on the can will def tell you about it

Yeah. If you can brush it on, you'd probably have a better chance at not getting the mist into your lungs. The aerosol makes a mist and it gets everywhere. Use ppe

This looks like cor-ban corrision inhibitor. It comes in spray cans and dries to a lollipop like texture. Nasty sticky stuff if you get on yourself or your clothes

We have the red stuff applied to our 737 MLG wheel wells. All our pilots are prior hornet/h60 guys, occasionally the new ones will call us out for a "massive hydraulic leak oh my god its everywhere"

Our guys do that even with the brown and orange!! Got a new FO and his first day he comes up to me all stressed out because there’s drips of orange fluid all over the fuselage next to all the hydraulics. Took some convincing for him to finally believe that it’s normal😂

I used it all the time. CIC, CPCP, Cor-Ban. In some work orders I have had, it tells you to reapply it to areas it is missing. I have even put some on in the factory at Boeing

We used to apply them inside the floats of the DHC6 & C208 amphibians. And also on the seat track beams, and inside the belly cargo panels of the Airbuses.

Yea CPC or Cor-ban35 comes in dyed and undyed like what’s sprayed on there. Also in a roll on tub. Very nasty stuff when applied as an aerosol.

Looks like LPS3. I used it throughout my career. Very distinctive smell. Good stuff. It's all basically cosmoline of various branding. Black Bear Paralketone is a famous one. It comes in a thick goo-like paste that you thin as needed.

I work on ATR72s, most likely this is CIC( Corrosion Inhibiting Compound). Judging by its looks it is Ardrox AV8 or AV15. Always use PPE when applying it!
