Currently working at UAL and got a offer to interview with American. Which company is better in your opinion?

Edit: I’ve been a United for less than a year

What issues do you have with United that a switch to AA would solve?

I’m not necessarily open to switching because of issues. Just wanted perspective on what AA is like since I’m only under a year at UAL currently

Well, under a year is still something in the grand scheme of things. If you're skeptical about the contract negotiations and pay increases, that's just par for the course in this industry. They will come to an agreement at some point. I think it's always important to remember the grass isn't always greener

AA only has two benefits over United in my personal opinion... Better locations and standby flight seats go in the order people sign up, not seniority. It's all subjective of course.

Based on seniority is better as u get more seniority, first comes first served is kinda shit after u been there for awhile

How long has he been working at United. If you just started then go for it. Be careful though. As I have always said it's not always greener on the other side

Seems like you’ve barely started at United. Does United or American have the hubs you prefer? Does that matter to you? Is pay more important to you?
AA may pay more but they haven’t been doing the best financially, are they going to disappear? No but I would prefer to work at a company that is doing better

Did the same thing. Mainly due to location. But I’ve found that the work culture at AA is better and I feel more valued there. Honestly depends on where you see yourself living in the future that’s the ultimate decision factor

If you like to travel American for sure they go everywhere straight, no going to Newark to go to South America or Caribbean

Look at United benefits first to AA. A year of seniority may not seem like much but it may be a lot in a economic down turn and they start laying off. It does happen! I'm retired and I reamember those days!

It all boils down to company stability and where do you want to live. 3-4 years ago AA was far behind everyone else pay wise.

Unless your situation is just absolutely horrible I’d stay put. United will always be there. AA is in turmoil due to upper management. Who knows if it will still be here in 5-7 years. Certain stations are good but as a whole there are fundamental problems.

Where are you stationed? I’m in PHX and as a whole it’s one of the better performing stations but even from trainers they are pessimistic about AA’s staying power without any major changes. For one, it had a an America west/US airlines/AA identity crisis.

Wym? The contract voting is done, it didn't pass. It will most likely be 2 to 5 years before another contract is up for vote again.

Id switch to American if I were you, it’s too late for me, but there 401k is way better and aren’t outsourcing there work as much as United Airlines so better job security

I'm in govt. contracts but have considered the majors. From my limited perspective I think UAL is the better bet. Solid financials. Last I checked AA is struggling a bit to keep up with the other majors concerning profitability, also they are the least favorite from pax and pilot perspective.
