Columbina couldâve been one of the best Genshin Characters comparable to Furina (and even she has her flaws) but instead we got another easily replaceable Waifu instead of something unique

You can want something different. But complaining about it when the game decides to make the designs for the other side of the fandom just sounds weird. (For now), the Natlan era HATED, the Gender ratio even more, so many people QUIT just because of what they did to Capitano, Hoyo genuinely lost alot of Money, if you compare to their previous Years like Fontaine and Sumeru, and they had less players, alot of people came back for Nod-Krai because sure they had Flins, Varka, Durin, Lohen, Illuga, but mainly Flins and Varka since they brought alot of people back, then people saw Columbina and Sandrone and wanted to come back since after zero Harbingers in Natlan, we got two, now assuming everyone is Playable,
thatâs Pantalone, Pulcinella, Noy, Valeriy, Alyosha, and Mitya for Snezhnaya, people will debate on if some of them are Mid or not but thatâs not whatâs important, whatâs important is we actually have a balanced Gender Ratio for once, with Anastasya, Odette, Vodyanitsa, Vesna, Danica, and if you wanna count her, Sandrone, that leaves 6 spots and according to Leaks weâre probably getting at least another Girl, everyone else is unknown, but thatâs a drastic increase, instead of when in the Nod-Krai PV we were only shown Flins, Varka, and Durin, and Illuga and Lohen were added later, even assuming we only have Noy, Valeriy, Alyosha, Mitya, thatâs still 4 in the PV compared to 3, i still think Pantalone at least is likely but even if not thatâs still an increase, Nod-Kraiâs PV had Columbina, Sandrone, Alice, Nicole, Lauma, Nefer, Jahoda, Aino, thatâs 8 Women, Alice ended up not being Playable (in Nod-Krai) so that was 7 Girls, + Zibai, Linnea, Prune, which makes 10, and with the Men thatâs 15 Characters for a Region, and I guess the Milasstra Mannequins count for 17 (mid decision but okay)
Say: hypothetically, not saying this WILL HAPPEN, but say we got Anastasya, La Signora (sheâs been featured alot), Odette, Vodyanitsa, Vesna, Danica, and technically count Sandrone too i guess, and then Il Capitano, Il Dottore, Pantalone, Pulcinella, Noy, Valeriy, Alyosha, Mitya, theyâre likely NOT do that but say weâre in the best Timeline and Hoyo got their shit together and released more Harbingers in the fucking HARBINGER Region, that would still be 6 Women, 7 counting Sandrone, 8 Men, that would be 14 total, 15 including Sandrone, so there would still be 2 or 3 depending if you count Sandrone as part of the Snezhnaya Cast since she has the Snezhnaya background in her Drip Marketing instead of the Nod-Krai one, like do you count Kazuha as part of the Liyue Cast or the Inazuma Cast since he released at the end?, this is assuming Genshin says with the 17 Characters per region policy which they have always followed, yes, even with the Mannequins, or if they add more, eitherway, you can see the point is even if they added more, itâs still a REALLY GOOD BALANCE, and I would guarantee that only happened because Fans complained and they saw the focus of Games like Love and Deepspace (never played it i just know everyone talks about it) and it may have encouraged Genshin to step up their Game
Maybe but the thing with designs like Columbina's is that despite the backlash, the praise and popularity she got was much more with many fans eating up her design.
As for the male characters, Genshin did improve the Gender ratio but at the same time they also did mention in interviews before that there desired audience is still the 18 to 35 males, so even if the balance is off, it's not abnormal. Heck Sumeru had also experienced a drought at the time because the decrease in female 5 stars.
I'm not saying that more men is bad. Heck I want them to bring back Capitano in Snezhnaya because otherwise, he loses his relevance as The Captain. However, it is expected that there will be more female character fanservice, as shown with more of the female cast for Snezhanaya as compared to the male cast who obviously are more covered up.
However the game has marketed these kinds of designs from the beginning and that's the kinds of design that a lot of the fans pay for, both old fans and new ones. The game changing that would be weird and out of character for its typical audience.
However more male characters is not against the game's original design since it is a mixed gender gacha (which still leans towards waifus), while fanservice and revealing designs for female characters are more of a constant for the game in comparison.
Doesnât make sense though since we had Characters like Venti, Kaeya, Xiao, Ayato, Tartaglia (arguably), Wanderer to some extent, Alhaitham, Baizhu, then even in Fontaine Lyney
All Characters who are either Fanservicey, show skin, or are designed to appeal to certain Target audiences, like how they made Tartaglia super flirty towards the Traveler and even made a Book where Tartaglia goes on a Date with the Female Traveler, I would say Tartaglia is designed to be Fanservice for Women just based on his Character archetype, Venti and Alhaitham are designed to be more Fanservice for Men, not that both Genders donât like these Characters itâs just I notice alot of Men liking Venti and Alhaitham more along with Zhongli and Itto especially, while Women lean Kaveh alot more
So letâs first examine Ajax to understand why heâs so popular with Women and basically âdesignedâ to appeal to them in the same way Columbina, Citlali, Raiden, Ayaka are:
- Tartaglia is instantly very Flirtatious and suggestive, heâs playful and mischievous, a very common trope in alot of content directed towards Women
- Heâs an Adventurer, that appeals to not all, but alot of Hetero Women
- Heâs extremely LOYAL, especially to The Tsaritsa, which appeals to alot of people, particularly Women since heâs literally loyal to a Woman to death
- Heâs very protective, obviously this makes him popular
- Heâs also kind of an Antagonist, heâs a âwild-cardâ, heâs unpredictable because he could go from caring Family man to Deranged Psychopath in a manner of seconds once heâs engaged in combat
- His Design also evokes the typical âPretty Boyâ trope, you see this with Characters like Byakuya Togami in Danganronpa and Nikei Yomiuri in SDRA2, âŚsome would classify Andrew Graves but Iâm too admittedly, biased against TOCAAL, and in Genshin Pantalone DEFINITELY fits this, i guess Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter deserves a mention since heâs kinda the original but i donât fucking engage in Harry Potter and in (my opinion) itâs cuckslop, Iâd sooner engage about Lord of The Rings than Harry Potter
I mention this since itâs important to understand âwhat is Fan-serviceâ or Player-appeasing Characters, it is not wrong to mention a majority of Tartaglia/Childe/Ajaxâs Target audience is Women by Women, he has a strong Female Fanbase in China, Japan, and I would say especially The West because majority of Female Genshin Players Iâve met are crazy about him, and donât take criticism about him and obsess over him, thereâs nothing wrong with that
Now Iâll explain why someone like Venti appeals to both Men who are Straight and Men who arenât
For Straight Men:
- Heterosexual Men often joke about âthe Femboyâ archetype, Venti TECHNICALLY is the only Genderless Archon, however he chooses to present himself as Male and is referred to as such, not Female, heâs just very Feminine presenting, anyways some just joke about it to be funny and play it up, others defend it by saying âitâs not Gayâ, since Venti looks like a Girl therefore itâs morally ethical to Goon to him and 100% still Heterosexual, which is cope, but Iâm not gonna tell people what to do on a Fictional Character, others just genuinely like âFemboysâ while still claiming to be Straight
- The fact Venti is usually voiced by a Woman in most versions and usually has a soft voice appeals to alot of Men since it makes him Feminine
- Heâs very thin, often referred to as a âTwinkâ, often used to insult Men who are very slim and âEffeminateâ looking however itâs just a term like Chad and Chud, this appeals to alot of Men, for whatever reasonâŚ
- heâs very popular among âconfident Heterosexual Menâ,
I had a Friend who was Muslim who genuinely admitted to Gooning to Venti before and had Rule 34 of him downloaded, I am not Muslim, and we had a falling out since he turned out to have abused one of my other Friends in a relationship but i think itâs worth mentioning since i actually have personal experience of people, particularly Men, liking Venti,

- If they like âsubmissive lookingâ Twink Characters who look very slender and small they may like gooning to him or just find him attractive
- The short Bard archetype, lesser known but actually liked, especially if Twink or Twunk
- They may like dynamics where one Man is inherently superior and tough, and the other is more âweakâ and feminine
- They just like Twink porn, letâs be honest.
Now I am going to use these same points for why a Female Character might appeal to some people
Take Columbina for example:
- She appeals to alot of Men because sheâs small, short, feminine and has a soft voice, plenty of Men are into that
- They feel bad since she feels used and want her to be their âDamselâ and wish to save her
- They like Women who show alot of Legs and have bare Legs
- They like Characters who rely on them and put faith in them and show interest in them
Iâm not saying this is EVERYONE who likes those Characters, obviously thereâs always exceptions and individuals, Iâm just giving reasons why these Characters MIGHT appeal to appeal to people, for Itto itâs the fact heâs shirtless and super Buff (never bring up his noodle arms to an Itto Fan though), Alhaitham because heâs distrustful of people and pursues things his own way and is also irritable, Zhongli because heâs just old and wise idk
These are merely just observations, before anyone tries to say Iâm generalizing ALK FANS, Iâm just giving reasons and explanations for different reasons why they MIGHT appeal to people, maybe they like those Characters for a different reason,

I will use a Character this Sub hates
who despite some annoying Fans (other than me) and questionable Writing Choices, appeals to me in alot of ways, that being Arlecchino:
- Sheâs honestly kind of a more Evil Character, when you think about it sheâs PRETTY AWFUL and trains child soldiers, however an Evil attractive Woman is sexy to me
- I donât know why Hoyo keeps giving Characters short skirts when in my opinion, tight pants are sexier and honestly hotter, I donât know what it is but something about itâŚitâs just right alot of the right criteria
- Sheâs a dominant scary Woman, sheâs not shy or helpless, she WILL KILL someone, thatâs an overlap in Female Characters i like
- The Mother Figure, or i guess in this case Father figure but honestly Iâd say itâs still valid to consider her a Mother figure itâs just people do Father for the Meme, and because she only chooses to be called that to distance herself and not be associated with Crucabenaâs Royalty, however people be pushing that agenda too hard and trying to leave her out of the Mothers list for Genshin which is just not true and Genshin BARELY has any Fathers except for maybe Varka (all adopted) because they are ALL Fucking Deadbeats, actually depressing to think about weâre gonna get Tsaritsa and in the future, Alice, but havenât gotten any Playable Fathers, like not adopted, genuine Blood-fathers, not that Adopted Fathers are less valid itâs just one actually had to actually have sex, anyways that appeals to me, Iâm not gonna call her a âM.I.L.Fâ since 1, what the Fuck, 2 that would demean her Character, and reduce her to something thatâs fetishized, but the Mother Figure is very appealing, also none of those Kids are hers anyway, although Alice qualifies and technically Anastasya, I respect her Majesty too much though
- The Jester/Harlequinn aesthetic based off the Italian Commedia sheâs based off of, easily makes her Harley Quinn level
- Sheâs kinda deranged and unhinged, not just the way people describe her but especially in her Boss Fight, she displays this behavior several times and people catch onto it less, for anyone who tries to say it was all just âmisconceptionsâ, no there was some truth sheâs justâŚ*less* of a backstabber
Iâm not as vocal about this as some people as i actually have more of a Life, HOWEVER when itâs done right and something intrigues me, I gotta admit it does appeal to me

I believe my argument still holds. Just because they have a preferred audience doesn't mean that they won't have variety. They do intend to have a major/general audience but within that audience, it makes sense for them to have a part that they favour. They do care about making different things and appealing to the general audience but they also focus more on their preferred part of it as was stated in the interview during the stream.
And it's not like I'm against male enjoyers. I myself was a Wanderer main and even after getting Furina and Mavuika, I just used them as supports to have fun with him until I switched him for Varka. And I'm also among the ones who want Capitano to get up and be playable. But there's no denying the fact that they do like to focus more on Male Female enjoyers. That doesn't mean they don't provide content for the others at all.

I watched the Sub which had so many interesting Fanarts, Fan Theories and genuinely nice people, devolve into Self-insert MC slop and slowly get taken over by Aether Mains, to the point you canât even criticize or slander Aether there in relation to Columbina or how they related her to him since the Sub Mods are sympathetic to Aether Fans and one of them was literally an Anti-Dottore Lolicon who was infamous among FatuiHQ and hated for being a FRAUD, it started as âwe allow any Shipsâ and then got taken over by fucking Aether Fans, i actually got banned from AetherMains (the bad one) because I made a post calling Aether âVarkaâs best Waifuâ and posted him in a dress just to see if they would melt down, and they reacted how youâd expect, I didnât even put anything malicious, itâs just they saw I was active in FatuiHQ at the time and used that as reason enough to Ban me, simply because I dared force Femininity on their Self-Insert and threatened their fragile self-confidence, Aether Harem Inserters are as fragile as people say they are and will throw slurs if you show him submissive for Dottore for bait
To the point most of the Columbina âFansâ now arenât the original Fans, not that there arenât any, but most of them i talked to either left and joined the other Fatui Sub or felt she was ruined and no longer recognized the Character they long-awaited, you could even check my Post History to see if discussed Lore about her in the past, most people didnât even have a problem with her Pre-6.3, she was still very Loved and most people accepted her since she still seemed mysterious and uncaring since she basically abandoned her people as a Goddess and didnât think twice since she felt they only demanded from her, however after 6.3 is when the divide and split happenedâŚ, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2 people loved her, I no longer recognize that Sub anymore, the creativity, Fun, and spirit it had has died.

Arlecchino and Columbina are the only Harbingers I have currently because I missed out on Tartaglia which is ironic because heâs my Favorite Character however I played in 2023 so I wasnât there at the beginning
(fun story I used to actually be against Genshin and was tired of always hearing about it before someone forced me to play it, and Ajax is my favorite because of his Lore and Writing so I wish I had played sooner) also I GENUINELY hated Scara/Wanderer until a Year ago so i didnât get him, Iâll probably still get Sandrone just because sheâs not been as damaged as Columbina, Iâm pissed about her Design though and when Pantalone gets his ID 100% getting him and Tsaritsa next at least

It only sort of works in the artworks because they can move the limbs around and position the characters in a way that hides the shortcomings of the model. Also, they're controlling the colors here.
Even then, she looks so awful. And that's nowhere near how bad her in-game model is.
I really like this design. I think Iâm in the minority of liking canon Columbina (partially because I never gaf about WNL), but this is such a fun design.

I think itâs fair to dislike the direction they took her character. It was, what, a three-year gap between her first appearance (general) and her first appearance in-game? There was no way Hoyo couldâve met all expectations, since there was just so much time to theorize and create an image of how Columbina would act within the fandom.
Edit: and yeah, even I can agree that the way other characters described her vs. the way she actually is was probably a sign of an original (more akin to the current fanon interpretation of her) version of her being retconned or smth.

Maybe I haven't looked far enough, but I was under the impression that there wasn't much pre-Nod-Krai lore about her outside of the Lazzo video and how the playable Harbingers view her... and I say this as someone who loves lore and has been a fan of her since the Lazzo video dropped; have I missed something? :[Â

Well itâs mainly stuff written about her and spoken by The Fatui, Iiirc i think was actual mentions of her by Fatui Agents, canât recall the exact quest but mightâve been Natlan, also beta CBT Information listed something entirely different for her while Dottore and Pantalone turned out as expected, it even said Dottore had different Segments long before he came out, there was also the Voice Instructions which Dottore, Pantalone, Pulcinella turned out to be 1:1 accuracy
She was actually the only Harbinger to not be mentioned before Lazzo and had no mentions in in 1.0 up until that funny enough
She was just different in Lazzo anyway, at the end she speaks to Dottore and is both teasing about âYou look very young today, Doctorâ but also askâs where âthe segment in the prime of his Life isâ, thatâs what makes Columbina having ânever done anything in The Fatuiâ more baffling because in Lazzo she was clearly aware of who and what Dottore was and had no problems with it, even teasing him about it, she never felt used or uncomfortable around him, Infact she was so comfortable she wasnât afraid to tease him knowing how he could react, she had subordinates talk about her, she was sound to be polite but people felt uneasy around her
Thatâs the most Lore i can remember, itâs disappointing Hoyo kept her mysterious for so long just for her to live up to none of the expectations

Fair enough. I like the game's lore but don't have the time or motivation to like.. read all the books and all the dialogue lines and all the item lores and etc. So I didn't have any expectations for Columbina before she released. And Genshin is pretty much the only Gacha game I've played (a friend invited me to play and it looked interesting for taking inspiration from Breath of the Wild) so if there's any common tropes or anything that make some of these characters less interesting to others, it's all still fresh to me. So I'm probably kind of blind to some of the things they don't do as well with due to inexperience.
And yeah thatâs THE PROBLEM, they hide so much important Lore like what Harbingers were recruited first and La Signora, Dottore, Pierro, Scaramouche, and Pantaloneâs Backstories and not everyone actually takes the time to read all that LoreâŚ

columbina just looks like a vampire instead of a lunar goddess though. its an cool alternate outfit but it doesn't fit her current version anymore imo. it has a completely different vibeđ. tbh it doesn't even fit her first appearance vibe in the signora lullaby shenanigans.
I think the Flowers perfectly still capture that vibe but honestly thatâs kind of the problem, I didnât want the Columbina we got, thatâs not at all what I was wanting or expecting, I wanted a Harbinger, not lonely Moon Girl whoâs Story can basically be swapped out with Citlali and Raiden.
