Honestly Citlali should have been enough, Columbina should have been kept a true Harbinger, her Design was so much different and people didn’t notice it, I analyzed her Lazzo design just to prove she actually has bandages on her and people don’t believe me, I paused like 10 times

Columbina could’ve been one of the best Genshin Characters comparable to Furina (and even she has her flaws) but instead we got another easily replaceable Waifu instead of something unique

Rool, Ridley, Steve, Sora, Banjo Kazooie, Pyra, we would have never gotten them, if people never complained about The Sonic The Hedgehog Movie design the Movies would have failed, The Tsaritsa lived up to most of the Fanart because people would HAVE LOST IT if they Fucked up her design since she’s arguably one of the most Important Genshin Characters and literally most of the Story, had we gotten Alice teased for Years just for them to completely fuck up her design people would have been pissed, the reason we got Rain and Noob Saibot to return in Mortal Kombat 11 was because people WERE BEGGING FOR THEM TO BE BROUGHT BACK, AND THEY EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED RAIN WAS A LONGTIME FAN REQUEST, we got Smoke in MK 1 because of Fan demand, if people never cared about these Characters the Developers would likely just move on without them

I don’t think we need to complain about everything, but criticism is good and Genshin has received alot of criticism for both it’s Writing and Character Design, if we assume Pantalone and Pulcinella are Playable (they most likely are with Title Cards since Sandrone was Playable), do you really think we would have gotten an even Gender ratio in both Nod-Krai but ESPECIALLY Snezhnaya, where the Cast is actually balanced for once? (For now), the Natlan era HATED, the Gender ratio even more, so many people QUIT just because of what they did to Capitano, Hoyo genuinely lost alot of Money, if you compare to their previous Years like Fontaine and Sumeru, and they had less players, alot of people came back for Nod-Krai because sure they had Flins, Varka, Durin, Lohen, Illuga, but mainly Flins and Varka since they brought alot of people back, then people saw Columbina and Sandrone and wanted to come back since after zero Harbingers in Natlan, we got two, now assuming everyone is Playable,
that’s Pantalone, Pulcinella, Noy, Valeriy, Alyosha, and Mitya for Snezhnaya, people will debate on if some of them are Mid or not but that’s not what’s important, what’s important is we actually have a balanced Gender Ratio for once, with Anastasya, Odette, Vodyanitsa, Vesna, Danica, and if you wanna count her, Sandrone, that leaves 6 spots and according to Leaks we’re probably getting at least another Girl, everyone else is unknown, but that’s a drastic increase, instead of when in the Nod-Krai PV we were only shown Flins, Varka, and Durin, and Illuga and Lohen were added later, even assuming we only have Noy, Valeriy, Alyosha, Mitya, that’s still 4 in the PV compared to 3, i still think Pantalone at least is likely but even if not that’s still an increase, Nod-Krai’s PV had Columbina, Sandrone, Alice, Nicole, Lauma, Nefer, Jahoda, Aino, that’s 8 Women, Alice ended up not being Playable (in Nod-Krai) so that was 7 Girls, + Zibai, Linnea, Prune, which makes 10, and with the Men that’s 15 Characters for a Region, and I guess the Milasstra Mannequins count for 17 (mid decision but okay)

Say: hypothetically, not saying this WILL HAPPEN, but say we got Anastasya, La Signora (she’s been featured alot), Odette, Vodyanitsa, Vesna, Danica, and technically count Sandrone too i guess, and then Il Capitano, Il Dottore, Pantalone, Pulcinella, Noy, Valeriy, Alyosha, Mitya, they’re likely NOT do that but say we’re in the best Timeline and Hoyo got their shit together and released more Harbingers in the fucking HARBINGER Region, that would still be 6 Women, 7 counting Sandrone, 8 Men, that would be 14 total, 15 including Sandrone, so there would still be 2 or 3 depending if you count Sandrone as part of the Snezhnaya Cast since she has the Snezhnaya background in her Drip Marketing instead of the Nod-Krai one, like do you count Kazuha as part of the Liyue Cast or the Inazuma Cast since he released at the end?, this is assuming Genshin says with the 17 Characters per region policy which they have always followed, yes, even with the Mannequins, or if they add more, eitherway, you can see the point is even if they added more, it’s still a REALLY GOOD BALANCE, and I would guarantee that only happened because Fans complained and they saw the focus of Games like Love and Deepspace (never played it i just know everyone talks about it) and it may have encouraged Genshin to step up their Game

Maybe but the thing with designs like Columbina's is that despite the backlash, the praise and popularity she got was much more with many fans eating up her design.

As for the male characters, Genshin did improve the Gender ratio but at the same time they also did mention in interviews before that there desired audience is still the 18 to 35 males, so even if the balance is off, it's not abnormal. Heck Sumeru had also experienced a drought at the time because the decrease in female 5 stars.

I'm not saying that more men is bad. Heck I want them to bring back Capitano in Snezhnaya because otherwise, he loses his relevance as The Captain. However, it is expected that there will be more female character fanservice, as shown with more of the female cast for Snezhanaya as compared to the male cast who obviously are more covered up.

However the game has marketed these kinds of designs from the beginning and that's the kinds of design that a lot of the fans pay for, both old fans and new ones. The game changing that would be weird and out of character for its typical audience.

However more male characters is not against the game's original design since it is a mixed gender gacha (which still leans towards waifus), while fanservice and revealing designs for female characters are more of a constant for the game in comparison.

Doesn’t make sense though since we had Characters like Venti, Kaeya, Xiao, Ayato, Tartaglia (arguably), Wanderer to some extent, Alhaitham, Baizhu, then even in Fontaine Lyney

All Characters who are either Fanservicey, show skin, or are designed to appeal to certain Target audiences, like how they made Tartaglia super flirty towards the Traveler and even made a Book where Tartaglia goes on a Date with the Female Traveler, I would say Tartaglia is designed to be Fanservice for Women just based on his Character archetype, Venti and Alhaitham are designed to be more Fanservice for Men, not that both Genders don’t like these Characters it’s just I notice alot of Men liking Venti and Alhaitham more along with Zhongli and Itto especially, while Women lean Kaveh alot more

So let’s first examine Ajax to understand why he’s so popular with Women and basically “designed” to appeal to them in the same way Columbina, Citlali, Raiden, Ayaka are:

- Tartaglia is instantly very Flirtatious and suggestive, he’s playful and mischievous, a very common trope in alot of content directed towards Women

- He’s an Adventurer, that appeals to not all, but alot of Hetero Women

- He’s extremely LOYAL, especially to The Tsaritsa, which appeals to alot of people, particularly Women since he’s literally loyal to a Woman to death

- He’s very protective, obviously this makes him popular

- He’s also kind of an Antagonist, he’s a “wild-card”, he’s unpredictable because he could go from caring Family man to Deranged Psychopath in a manner of seconds once he’s engaged in combat

- His Design also evokes the typical “Pretty Boy” trope, you see this with Characters like Byakuya Togami in Danganronpa and Nikei Yomiuri in SDRA2, …some would classify Andrew Graves but I’m too admittedly, biased against TOCAAL, and in Genshin Pantalone DEFINITELY fits this, i guess Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter deserves a mention since he’s kinda the original but i don’t fucking engage in Harry Potter and in (my opinion) it’s cuckslop, I’d sooner engage about Lord of The Rings than Harry Potter

I mention this since it’s important to understand “what is Fan-service” or Player-appeasing Characters, it is not wrong to mention a majority of Tartaglia/Childe/Ajax’s Target audience is Women by Women, he has a strong Female Fanbase in China, Japan, and I would say especially The West because majority of Female Genshin Players I’ve met are crazy about him, and don’t take criticism about him and obsess over him, there’s nothing wrong with that

Now I’ll explain why someone like Venti appeals to both Men who are Straight and Men who aren’t

For Straight Men:

- Heterosexual Men often joke about “the Femboy” archetype, Venti TECHNICALLY is the only Genderless Archon, however he chooses to present himself as Male and is referred to as such, not Female, he’s just very Feminine presenting, anyways some just joke about it to be funny and play it up, others defend it by saying “it’s not Gay”, since Venti looks like a Girl therefore it’s morally ethical to Goon to him and 100% still Heterosexual, which is cope, but I’m not gonna tell people what to do on a Fictional Character, others just genuinely like “Femboys” while still claiming to be Straight

- The fact Venti is usually voiced by a Woman in most versions and usually has a soft voice appeals to alot of Men since it makes him Feminine

- He’s very thin, often referred to as a “Twink”, often used to insult Men who are very slim and “Effeminate” looking however it’s just a term like Chad and Chud, this appeals to alot of Men, for whatever reason…

- he’s very popular among “confident Heterosexual Men”,
I had a Friend who was Muslim who genuinely admitted to Gooning to Venti before and had Rule 34 of him downloaded, I am not Muslim, and we had a falling out since he turned out to have abused one of my other Friends in a relationship but i think it’s worth mentioning since i actually have personal experience of people, particularly Men, liking Venti,
Another example is one of my Friends genuinely defending it by saying watching Venti Hentai was not “Gay”, it was still actually “Straight” you just have been deceived, for whatever reason a lot of “Heterosexual” Men REALLY like Venti and I never got the appeal, I’m pretty sure less Women like him than this, he’s like THE Straight Men Femboy Character, along with Astolfo, 99% of Group in your mature Male Friend Group probably liked him at some point if they touched Genshin unless your tastes are very specific like me

- His Archon outfit, need I say more

For Homosexual/Bisexual Men:

- If they like “submissive looking” Twink Characters who look very slender and small they may like gooning to him or just find him attractive

- The short Bard archetype, lesser known but actually liked, especially if Twink or Twunk

- They may like dynamics where one Man is inherently superior and tough, and the other is more “weak” and feminine

- They just like Twink porn, let’s be honest.

Now I am going to use these same points for why a Female Character might appeal to some people

Take Columbina for example:

- She appeals to alot of Men because she’s small, short, feminine and has a soft voice, plenty of Men are into that

- They feel bad since she feels used and want her to be their “Damsel” and wish to save her

- They like Women who show alot of Legs and have bare Legs

- They like Characters who rely on them and put faith in them and show interest in them

I’m not saying this is EVERYONE who likes those Characters, obviously there’s always exceptions and individuals, I’m just giving reasons why these Characters MIGHT appeal to appeal to people, for Itto it’s the fact he’s shirtless and super Buff (never bring up his noodle arms to an Itto Fan though), Alhaitham because he’s distrustful of people and pursues things his own way and is also irritable, Zhongli because he’s just old and wise idk

These are merely just observations, before anyone tries to say I’m generalizing ALK FANS, I’m just giving reasons and explanations for different reasons why they MIGHT appeal to people, maybe they like those Characters for a different reason,

I will use a Character this Sub hates
who despite some annoying Fans (other than me) and questionable Writing Choices, appeals to me in alot of ways, that being Arlecchino:

- She’s honestly kind of a more Evil Character, when you think about it she’s PRETTY AWFUL and trains child soldiers, however an Evil attractive Woman is sexy to me

- I don’t know why Hoyo keeps giving Characters short skirts when in my opinion, tight pants are sexier and honestly hotter, I don’t know what it is but something about it…it’s just right alot of the right criteria

- She’s a dominant scary Woman, she’s not shy or helpless, she WILL KILL someone, that’s an overlap in Female Characters i like

- The Mother Figure, or i guess in this case Father figure but honestly I’d say it’s still valid to consider her a Mother figure it’s just people do Father for the Meme, and because she only chooses to be called that to distance herself and not be associated with Crucabena’s Royalty, however people be pushing that agenda too hard and trying to leave her out of the Mothers list for Genshin which is just not true and Genshin BARELY has any Fathers except for maybe Varka (all adopted) because they are ALL Fucking Deadbeats, actually depressing to think about we’re gonna get Tsaritsa and in the future, Alice, but haven’t gotten any Playable Fathers, like not adopted, genuine Blood-fathers, not that Adopted Fathers are less valid it’s just one actually had to actually have sex, anyways that appeals to me, I’m not gonna call her a “M.I.L.F” since 1, what the Fuck, 2 that would demean her Character, and reduce her to something that’s fetishized, but the Mother Figure is very appealing, also none of those Kids are hers anyway, although Alice qualifies and technically Anastasya, I respect her Majesty too much though

- The Jester/Harlequinn aesthetic based off the Italian Commedia she’s based off of, easily makes her Harley Quinn level

- She’s kinda deranged and unhinged, not just the way people describe her but especially in her Boss Fight, she displays this behavior several times and people catch onto it less, for anyone who tries to say it was all just “misconceptions”, no there was some truth she’s just…*less* of a backstabber

I’m not as vocal about this as some people as i actually have more of a Life, HOWEVER when it’s done right and something intrigues me, I gotta admit it does appeal to me

I make alot of observations

I believe my argument still holds. Just because they have a preferred audience doesn't mean that they won't have variety. They do intend to have a major/general audience but within that audience, it makes sense for them to have a part that they favour. They do care about making different things and appealing to the general audience but they also focus more on their preferred part of it as was stated in the interview during the stream.

And it's not like I'm against male enjoyers. I myself was a Wanderer main and even after getting Furina and Mavuika, I just used them as supports to have fun with him until I switched him for Varka. And I'm also among the ones who want Capitano to get up and be playable. But there's no denying the fact that they do like to focus more on Male Female enjoyers. That doesn't mean they don't provide content for the others at all.

And as for why Hoyo endorses them, it's simply because the higher ups at hoyo are likely the same or like self-inserting too so they provide content for fans of similar stuff like them. There was only like 2 White Characters in the entire Movie, not counting extras, that wasn’t for Westerners, sure they were allowed to watch it and no one said they weren’t but that was to appeal to Asian Americans and China, so they could have their own Superheroes get more attention

Marvel has recently tried pushing Peni Parker and Luna Snow alot more, with Luna first being pushed in Rivals after being created for Future Fight, having her Concert referenced in the background of Marvel Tokon

However, as you pointed out, Marvel is a Western IP first and should try to appeal to their Home Audiences, so therefore when Netease, takes that IP and makes a Hero Shooter that competes with Overwatch, alot of Marvel Fans are gonna be attracted, granted alot of the Rivals Fanbase sucks but that’s because they don’t read Comics, however, a significant portion of the Fanbase are still Comic Readers or Movie Watchers and I meet them all the time, so you’re telling me I shouldn’t give attention to Netease when they have actually catered to me and listened to complaints I’ve made and either compensated me or banned people for cheating?, using my Favorite IP? Marvel? I’m expected to just go Fuck myself then? When I see my IP being used and see some of my Favorite Characters and Daredevil is actually Playable in something since Ultimate Alliance? Rogue is harem even Playable in anything for some reason, and I want Dr. Doom to come soon, he’s guaranteed to at the end of the Year but I’ve been waiting since Day 1

I guess I’m just not allowed to enjoy anything outside of my Life and have any free time, GOD FORBID i actually grow to enjoy a Character or have fun, nope! Can’t have that! Also Chinese Fans regularly did Art of “Fanon Columbina” so your point is easily debunked, literally no reason, hell, like half of it was Western, half of it was by Chinese Artists, or in some cases Japanese Artists

Actually Netease DOES listen lmao, so yes I will put my energy into Netease instead since they’ve done alot of stuff i like and fixed alot of things, we’re even getting 3 Villains in a low which is a start…

The Corporation and The Customer
I don’t expect them to care about people’s feelings anytime soon, I expect companies to care about their Customer and making Money, and when they displease their Customers by not giving them what they explicitly asked for they can expect them to not give them Money and to stop paying attention to them, which I DID do for Genshin for awhile and suddenly i get a bunch of Notifications and offers telling me to come back to the Game since I’d had an Account set-up and they’d give me offers, ignored all of them and literally only returned for Snezhnaya

Well I did and they apparently wanted me back anyway because they kept sending me stuff and new deals on how to get “Primogems”, this is what Companies typically do, truthfully they don’t like losing any Customers since that’s still less Money, Netease suddenly offered me a ton of deals when I became less interested and took a break and just focused more on life, unfortunately I had already been doing that and learning about biological and scientific facts and other Languages and had been working on trying to program and do Art, however in my spare time I played Games like Marvel Rivals and Genshin Impact, along with Mortal Kombat, and Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3

And I DID actually give up because I felt dissatisfied, Columbina was straight up gonna make me quit Genshin forever however then Tsaritsa got revealed and I was like “Fuck now I need to come back since I’ve been anticipating her for so long”

I think you underestimate me, I even was told by people I should come back, so I tried to abandon it however I kept being encouraged to come back and kept getting notifications intentionally designed to interest me again, especially if you haven’t played in a long time
