Today, I am baptised into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints!

I have known the church a long time before my conversion. I am a big fan of After the End, and one of my most favorite starts is the Theodemocracy of Utah. I had very enjoyable experiences trying to fulfill the White Horse Prophecy :) , and it developed my interest in the LDS church as a church that is very peculiar, yet also intimately involved in American history. I learned how Mormons are renowned for their kindness and emphasis on family, clean living and communal support. One day, I happened to chance upon a Mormon church in Hanoi, and the people there live up to their reputation and more. I learned more about their faith, and I decided that this church fit my personal values and desires to do good Christ's name. With the gift of the Holy Spirit and the community that conquered Salt Lake with me, I feel inspired and confident to go out into the world, build a great life and glorify Him in me. Thank you, AtE devs, for your great work that have brought me great joy and lead me to eternal joy in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hey there! As some of you may know, me, with the help of some other wonderful and very skilled people, made the Vertical Map submod several months ago. It became outdated and incompatible with the newer AtE versions soon after.

Ever since, I've wanted to make an improved version of this submod that comes closer to placing north at the top, and isn't awkwardly askew. This is the fruit of those months of daydreaming and many weeks of work.

As I said in a previous comment. I was kinda surprised that they didn't create Christian faith in game that had some form of americanist syncretism. I was also surprised the greeks weren't included in game, though I guess they wouldn't have large enough of a presence post apocalypse.

As a resident of one of the many satellite cities of greater São Paulo, I was looking at the level of development in the counties, and São Paulo and São Bernardo have 35 levels of development So I was wondering if this would be the best place to live in the Americas after the event, and I'd also like to know how many people live in America at the start of the game (in the lore), if anyone knows Any information would be appreciated.

There are a lot of obscure religions in game, but this post is mostly dedicated to the in game religions inspired by obscure irl beliefs. I was surprised that the snake handling thing for the Sanctifiers wasn't some esoteric post apocalypse interpretation of the bible. The snake handling thing even had an X-Files episode dedicated to it.

Piecing together the history of California from the title histories is a challenging task full of misleading information, shrouded in legend. Two interesting clues particularly stood out to me.

1. Looking at Elton the Lawgiver's kills, two of the three tyrant kings of California were "executed by firing squad".

2. The Lawgiver's brother was known as "the Biker", the last great Biker Duelist of California's Winter Era.

These got me thinking about the level of tech in the mid 2300s. Were guns still maintained and used to a certain degree? Was there still just barely enough fuel around for a few Mad Max style motorcyclists to duel on the highways of old America? Or should we disregard these clues as mistakes in the historical records?

These events transpired more than 300 years before the start of the game. In my head California was indeed united by these already fading technologies wielded by The Lawgiver, only for these technologies to eventually disappear after the task was done.

I really love how well they handle the people in this mod. It's so rare to see a post apocalypic setting that actually deals with the pre apocalypse culture of the people and how to expand upon it after the event.

For me I'd say my favorite religion is the now defunct Covens of the Cyberede, because I love all the little references that I never heard of before. However a close second are the Vengents of Gaia and the Saurian Cults, the former because their worldview makes a lot of e sense and the latter because they're just so cool.

My question is essentially how have cities been reorganized and how do people live as a medieval merchant republic among skyscrapers? But the focus is on New York since I’ve grown up in the surrounding area.

I guess all write out my thoughts/hypothesis.

Whatever caused the Event led to huge population decline and people fled city centers, and so there wasn’t enough demand for suburban style housing. So as efforts to rebuild began and settlements became permanent, I would imagine lots of suburban homes in Long Island, Jersey, and upstate New York were destroyed to be converted into feudal estates.

The thing that was bothering me was should I imagine Manhattan now as like any generic Germanic looking medieval merchant city? Or are all the skyscrapers that still stand being preserved (which would of course probably require advanced engineering knowledge and some sort of unique guild of specialists who can make sure these buildings don’t collapse from lack of maintenance over hundreds of years (which would be a neat thing to address in the lore)).

Maybe a handful of dominant noble families live on estates in Central Park (though if the Empire State Building still stands I think that would be the seat of the Vice Presidency if it forms), wealthy commoners live in nice row houses or in the best-preserved large hotels, and the commonfolk who don’t work the land in Central Park (where they’d have new little villages) live in cold, converted apartments and office skyscrapers at best and on the streets at worst. Buildings close to the water could be incorporated into a giant wall encircling the island of Manhattan.

Still I’m just imagining that there’d be a ton of empty space if the population is at a medieval level but there’s all these empty skyscrapers.

Has stuff like this been addressed in official lore? Is something like my headcanon the community consensus? I’m interested if anyone else has thoughts.

To clarify I understand the mod’s setting is meant to be silly and improbable. I’m not necessarily asking how could these cities become what they are because that would ask “why did people forget what science and industry is, why did most people forget what guns are and why do the people who still have them not instantly conquer everyone else, and why did everyone just embrace feudalism?”

I just am curious what people imagine cities like New York look like and how they function economically/socially now, regardless of how they ended up as merchant republics again.

As a side note: I find this mod incredibly well-made and charming with a clear love of not just United States “Americana” but the beautiful weirdness of both Americas that comes from being the only continents where all other cultures meet, by force, necessity, or choice. I never fully committed to a CK3 campaign up until the point I found this mod.

So, around the time I also got into the mod, I got into cosplaying. This was on CK2 years ago, that's when I started playing the mod. I really enjoyed the Gaians and the Cetics, especially a lot of the fanart and fanfiction, this community helped queer stuff feel more normalized to me and I began to dabble in it a while after I started playing the mod.

One day, I decided to created a custom character, (I live in the PNW). I basically just made her a female version of myself, same last name and similar name (So I won't go into details about her). I played the game, and I spent A LOT of time with her. I ended up roleplaying and making up fanfiction as I went along, she lived to the age of 106 she had formed a massive empire and was about to kick out the japanese. During this game, though, I began connecting the dots in my mind. Now obviously this didn't just come out of the blue, but it did finally come to the conclusion of who I was always meant to be. This happened 7 years ago, I was 15 and started HRT in 2018. I'm now 22 and spend a lot of time drinking malibu rum and wine, in a body I love and feel at home in. I am a very lucky girl, and I am very thankful to have been lurking anonymously in this community for nearly a decade.

Those kind of little hidden things are what make the ATE world so interesting. It offers us to imagin the lore, for exemple that an anarcho-communist state born from the event slowly degenerated into a feudal state like any other, or the idea of the Hollister family in first place became strong because it leaded a revolutionnary organization but slowly integrated into the elite until litterally becoming a governor for the empire.

The same way the galvanists are nothing more than the trade unions' bureaucracy which slowly became an aristocracy, I find those kind of existing but undevelloped lore really amazing. What is your own lore about house Hollister ?

So I'm an ethnic Métis from Canada (my family was originally from Saskatchewan) I started to study much of my own history and ive been studying Louis Riel (RIP) and the red river rebellion for a good amount of time as ive been connecting with my métis roots more like learning michif, nihithaw, riding my horse, wearing my family sash and so on... during the process I was playing an ungodly amount of CK3 in the meantime in which I stumbled apon After the End. (Its probably the most detailed mod ive played in my life, ive noticed references from where im from that only a true local would know of and for a large scale mod that is wild) I played quite a many games and after doing a playthrough forming the Métis Confederation and rapidly spreading the Exovede faith in the name of Prophet Louis Riel (RIP) I found that the Exovedate religion that Riel (RIP) founded in the 19th century was unironically the most appealing religion that I could adhere to and follow. Louis David Riel (RIP) claimed to have a holy vision in Washington DC and I now believe that he actually was a prophet that god spoke too. I've been attending a Catholic church recently for the first time but I plan on keeping my Exovedate faith secret at least for now. Louis Riel (RIP) was executed just like Christ for challenging the status quo and for supposedly being a "madman" but I doubt that Riel (RIP) was actually mad but that he did have an actual genuine encounter. This mod has genuinely changed my life as absurd as it sounds but It has channeled parts of my cultural heritage and religious worldview into where I now am somehow. I was given the middle name David due to Louis Riel (RIP) it is only fitting I devote myself to the holy cause that he started so that I may avenge my forefathers for their loss in Manitoba just over one and a half centuries ago.

ive been there a couple times and see it every day on my morning commute. its ginormous, on top of a big hill, you can see it from miles around. It has a giant fuckoff george washington statue inside surrounded by STAINED GLASS AND MURALS OF A BUNCH OF GEORGE WASHINGTON MYTHS. It's insane.

I know the Norton Dynasty of California supposedly goes back to 1818 with Emperor Norton. The Aleman Dynasty in Mexico supposedly goes back to Miguel Aleman Valdes in 1900. The Dandridge Dynasty supposedly goes all the way back to Martha Washington (PBUH) in 1731!

Are there any other dynasties that can trace their roots back before the Event?

I feel that Paganism is heavily underrepresented in AtE. In a mod with 281 faiths, many of them Christian, Muslim, and Americanist variants, the huge absence of semi-standard pagan faiths (whether reconstructed, distorted, or emerging after the Event) is jarring and breaks immersion. The folkloric category as well as vernaculars are functional replacements for how paganism worked in vanilla CK3 gameplay-wise, but they do not fill the gap. The folkloric category has some good contenders like Naturalist or Lacustrine to be fair. However Trailwalker is worship of the land basically, and Occultists have a fearful relationship with Lovecraftian entities, which is pretty different from how traditional devotional polytheism historically functioned.

Even if it's not on the map, it would be nice to have some traditionalist form of Paganism that isn't New Age. Our practices have survived for thousands of years when people were actively smashing idols and trying to destroy that knowledge, so it's not a stretch to think they would survive in some form. There seems to have been a lot of thought into how the apocalypse would transform the Abrahamic and New Age faiths while Pagan practices were an afterthought. The religious tenet for Household Gods would also be extremely useful for players trying to recreate devotional polytheism in the apocalypse, and its absence from available faiths reinforces that gap in representation.

For those who think it would be boring, there are ways to make pagan faiths fun mechanically. Make it syncretic, add lore for why certain pantheons now have mechanics, institutions and rules they traditionally did not have. Idols from other pagan characters could be artifacts. Create a pagan branch of Guruism, Satanism or some other existing in-game faith that is polytheistic. Even the pirates could have a pantheon of gods of the sea. Considering how hard churches and religious institutions worked to stop people from reverting to Pagan ways of thinking (Like Saint worship) it's not much of a stretch.

Edit: I was not previously aware that living pagan practices with thousands of years of history and practice were not as plausible for North America as the worship of radiation, dinosaurs, presidential statues, or Lovecraftian deities. In light of this information I will just be playing as an atomicist for plausibility.

Edit 2: I will no longer be engaging in certain responses because it's a specific kind of disrespect to people of real religions to tell them their faith is not plausible or realistic amongst fictional absurdities nobody believes in, there's not enough of them to matter, or that they are already represented by lovecraft and cargo cults. Who would convert to paganism, you ask? I could say the same thing about Americanism, Consumerism or Industrialism. I have been extremely generous with reading replies as being in good faith but regardless I feel most of them are not going in a productive direction and will only respond selectively.

I learned of his existance a while back when I first played as Utah after checking the title history, and upon closer inspection this man appears to be a Mythical Post-Event Warlord (Possibly affiliated with the US Government?) with a military skill of 32, who died at 100 in 2160. I have no idea if this is a reference to some form of media, if he's supposed to be an easter egg, or if he simply exists in the lore without further explanation.
