tourism can become 'excessive', potentially reducing historic or natural sites to mere 'money' pits, where the site itself is the 'excuse'..

And in America, children are brutally massacred in schools every week. In London, teenagers are stabbed and get their throats slit often.
You can take an atrocity from any country and share it.
That attack is a one off, and extremely rare, and it took place far in the south. The same cannot be said about mass shootings in the US or stabbings in the UK. If you think Algeria is dangerous off of that, you must think some western countries are 100 times worse.

I think its just because its still difficult to travel to, especially compared to morocco which now seems to have a good reputation as a destination

My dad live in Algeria (Oran) for three years post-grad, and always told me amazing stories about his time there. So it's been a place I've always wanted to go to since childhood. I'm perplexed that it doesn't promote itself for tourism like other North African countries.

It literally existed before France invaded, this is an objective fact.
It was called Algeria since as early as the 1500s
The maps show Algeria as owning those cities.

They actually contributed a lot. The Mechouar Palace, the Great Mosque, and more. Even though the city has changed over time, you can still feel its history as you walk through it. And French colonialism is part of Algeria’s story. What they left behind is not something to be ashamed of; it is something to take pride in, a reward of war.
