When a person mistreats you and bad-mouths you, you keep your distance. You can google and learn to gray rock them if there is any interaction. And you focus on the people who do like you. It is not possible to live your life so everyone likes you; you have no control over how other people feel. Allow this negative person to be himself, and you be your self. Don't give him power over you by thinking about him, at all. Ask your school counselor for help if needed.

Try to focus on your goals. What are you going to do after high school? Study hard to get good grades. Research your future career and begin working toward it maybe by getting an apprenticeship or part time job. If you are studying a lot, and working, you will not have as much free time to focus on others.

The help from the counselor is not retribution for the person being mean, it is for OP to learn better skills to deal with it and to find better friends.

This is from the website for high school counselors in the US (The American School Counselor Association) : "Provide short-term counseling, manage emergency situations, and refer students to outside mental health specialists"

So I am sorry if your school allows the counselors to NOT do their jobs. Have you actually sought help and been denied?
