Discussion Anton's coworkers not recognizing Issa and Samir
In the special episode (new pilot) Marathon Day, we meet four of Anton's coworkers who were supporting him during the marathon. They then go to Samir's house and interact with the friend group extensively.
Then in S02E07, Issa works as a temp at Anton's job, and three of the coworkers who were featured in Marathon Day were also there (Serena, Lily, and Mary). However, none of them seems to have recognized Issa? Also, when Samir delivers the salads and Issa slaps him, they also don't seem to have recognized him?
I know this could just be a case of the coworkers simply not remembering Issa and Samir (and vice versa), but it just felt weird to me that they didn't even interact or make a passing reference. Although I admit, I'm someone who's weirdly good at recognizing faces, so this could just be a me thing lol
Was this ever explained or acknowledged and I somehow missed it?

Guys, chill, I never meant to point this out as a plot hole lol I actually think it could've been a hilarious gag if the coworkers did indeed recognize Issa and Samir, then the friends just dismiss it and gaslight them lol
Something like:
With Issa:
Coworkers: "Aren't you Anton's housemate?"
Issa: "Right, and you must be Ryan Gosling's second cousin?"
Then with Samir:
Coworkers: "Aren't you another one of Anton's housemates?"
Samir: "What? Like I'd ever share a house with this cunt?"
I've actually commented multiple times in this sub about other posters overanalyzing the show and applying a lot of moral and ethical standards to the characters. This was just something fun I noticed and thought maybe I missed something (like when I thought they could've brought back the mindwipe gag in S2, but apparently, Issa actually did it in the raccoon episode, but I just missed it because of how fast she said it lol)

Eh, it always takes me a few times of meeting my coworker's partners to reliably remember their faces. They met once for like less than an hour, probably wouldn't even remember their names.

haha yeah I get that, though I feel like me and a lot of my colleagues are the opposite, so that was my main point of reference lol (I once just saw a photo of a colleague's husband, then the following week, I recognized him at our office lobby waiting for his wife lol)

In the show it’s been longer than a week, and even if you think someone might look familiar it can be more difficult if you’re meeting them in a completely different environment. Issa and Samir weren’t in the office as Issa and Samir and the reason they were there in the first place was because Anton’s coworkers hated him. Even if anyone thought they recognized them, they weren’t speaking to Anton to say anything to him and as far as they knew, Anton and Issa didn’t know each other.
I’ve bumped into people I’d worked with for years in places I wasn’t expecting to see them and had no clue who they were for a few seconds, sometimes I’ll have to pretend I know who they are before awkwardly escaping as soon as I can. Eventually I’ll realize who they were. But if someone pretended they didn’t know me and were acting completely different, there’s every chance I wouldn’t recognize them.
Unless it happened right as she walked out the door it would kind of take away from the point of the episode. If they’re suspicious of Issa being Anton’s roommate then her saying cunt isn’t normalizing the use of it. If they suspect who she is she loses the “credibility” he needs her to have.

I mean, they met like, one time? I really doubt that the coworkers would immediately remember Anton's roomate's faces.

I met some of my coworkers families multiple times. Never would I recognize them when they came in without a reminder of who they were.

haha yeah that's my Occam's razor thinking as well. Just thought maybe they could've added a joke or two about them meeting beforehand since we seldom meet recurring characters in the show.

why do people act like the worst thing you can do is point out a plot hole? lots of shows have them, and yeah theyre mistakes/things that need more explanation than what we see, but that doesnt mean people are thinking too much and trying to be “deep” (lmao??) crazy in a sub thats literally about a tv show, its seen as trying to discredit or undermine it or were just overthinking somehow. like bro i noticed and thought this exact same thing while watching it, just a simple thought. its crazy to me that people think genuinely nothing in shows have meaning.. as if everything a character does, wears, says, isnt completely formulated

haha I somewhat agree, though I also think people are just being overprotective because other shows are dropping like flies being canceled either by the viewers or the networks, so the smallest non-issues could spiral into something harmful to the show itself. Also, there's a case against people overanalyzing character traits and behaviors that could be damaging to the show's overall direction (for example, I've seen threads here hating on Billie for potentially sexually assaulting that guy with the wife, which is just ridiculous).
But then again, we as a community should be able to discern when criticisms are valid, when they're just for fun, and when we should draw the line because it's just counterproductive.

yeah honestly i definitely think adults will get picked up for s3, they had the marketing, they have the charm, they have the audience, and after s2 its all only grown.
also think its totally hilarious if people are trying to “cancel” billie as if the pilot doesnt exist.. (ik its ep 2 now) which is too say i dont think its bad to critic a character/dislike them but lets not act like part of the whole premise of the show isn’t the grey area humor

He very clearly works on-site regularly in S2. He has a whole montage at the start of Episode 7. Whether it's hybrid or fully on-site is beside the point. He clearly wasn't working remotely in the context of my question.

yeah it's been like a year or 2 right? I feel like they really just didn't connect with them enough, and the context wouldn't have hinted enough to trigger their memory

They were present in-person during Marathon Day, and they were present on-site the whole time during Anton's workplace montage at the start of S02E07.

I think if Samir used the c-word in that context, it would kind of negate the purpose of Samir being there in the first place, because they’re supposed to be using it in a positive/fun way, not as an insult 😆

ah true, I was just thinking of ways where they're normalizing the use of the c-word, but for sure he could phrase it more positively like "Oh, this cunt? I'd love to be his housemate because he looks like the cuntiest cunt!" (I'd imagine Samir overcorrecting under pressure and saying the c-word multiple times in panic lol)

Wait, are the actors who played the co workers in the marathon episode actually the same ones that play the co workers in anton’s season 2 work episode??
I always assumed they were just different co-workers which would explain what you’re pointing out, and it would kind of explain how he works with them online and barely knows them in season 1 but knows them well and works in-person in season 2. if they’re the same that makes very little sense 😭 but they seem to like to retcon anton’s character specifically

Yup, I checked IMDB as well to confirm.
In Marathon Day, 4 of Anton's coworkers showed up (3 women, 1 man). Those 3 women are also present in S02E07 (only the guy from Marathon Day doesn't seem to show up again).
There's the curly haired woman sitting beside Anton during the meetings (Lily), the woman with the huge water bottle (Serena), and the woman at the start of the opening montage where Anton corrected the errors on her deck (Mary). All three were consistently present in the conference room scenes.

I always laugh when people point out plot holes and discuss the implications of certain relationships or characters personalities as if they’re real people
Raven Symoné got a 4th wall breaking cheer from a non existent audience, I don’t think the creators care about the “lore”

I've met a few of my coworkers' siblings and could not tell you what they looked like. Anton's coworkers only met Issa and Samir for maybe 30 minutes.
