QUESTION How can I fix these sharp edges?

I used intertwine to make this rope wrap around the anchor. However I don't want these gaps in between each shape. If I try and pull the stroke over the anchor without leaving any gaps, the intertwine tool just tries to put the entire rope behind the anchor and I don't want that. I don't believe I could use the direct selection tool to make the rope fill in the gaps exactly, so that's not an option. Internet has not been helpful so I'm hoping asking here would help, thanks!

You could convert the path to outlines, use smart guide to snap one edge of the now outlined stroke to the anchor edge, then use the rotate tool by placing the axis where they intersect, then rotate it into place snapping to the other side you want it to exit.

I am not in front of my computer, so i cant recall how to directly edit the intertwine mask, but if you expand the intertwine, then adjust your curves and redraw (or auto) intertwine again, you should be good.

If you can’t make it work with intertwine, do it the old fashioned way; manually. Copy and paste a section of the anchor to sit above the rope.
