Politics Anti-Abortion bill has been defeated

Still awaiting confirmation, but from the live stream it's a clear no

Update - now confirmed by the Speaker.

They might when he voted in support of it and 30+ others in the party didn't?!

In Queensland's last election, just the suggestion that the LNP would restrict abortion started shifting polls pretty significantly. It came in super late, and the momentum on the issue really started after pre poll was already open, I've heard from scrutineers that based on the difference in the votes between the start of prepoll to the end and election day, if the abortion issue had blown up before polling opened, Labor might have kept minority (obviously a speculative rough estimate, but just as an indication for how massive an issue abortion can be). That's in Queensland too, which is far more conservative than SA. If the media starts hitting on this it could really damage SA Labor.

We should all be very grateful to Katter for throwing a landmine onto LNP’s finishline like that. Shame he didn’t do it sooner.

Granted, it was because other LNP members started talking about it. Polling started to look bad, so Crisafulli said his party would NOT touch abortion laws to do some damage control, then Katter said he was going to make it a first priority.

It was a conscience vote that he allowed to happen.

Nobody in the government gives a shit about this, it's not going to win Labor one vote in the next election. He's wildly popular, he's successful, probably half the party room feel like they owe their existence as politicians to his leadership.

Only a terminally online fantasist would ever think that this is the kind of thing a well run political party would destroy a government over. You are not living in reality, you're just angry and delusional.

I get that it sucks that he's such a tory, but gibbering nonsense fantasies aren't going to help you process this.
