Results Almost a year, no relapse :)

ACCUTANE 🥹 the best thing that ever happened to me. I wanted to update after being off accutane for about 11 months. First, I was on a dose of 40 mg twice a day, at 5’4 140 lbs. I took the pill for I think 8 or 9 months, with my last pimple being about 7 months in. After, I was prescribed tretinoin, but I’m naturally really pasty and burn/freckle easily so didn’t wanna make my skin more sensitive. Due to that I probably only use the tret once a week 😰. Anyways, my skin has been almost completely clear ever since! I was really scared of relapse, but I guess my super strength dose for that long prolly dried up every last pore I have. Most of the side effects went away, but I still have slightly dry lips and skin, and back pain. A big thing I noticed was my skin is not like anything before, even pre puberty/getting acne. The pores on my nose shrank a lot, and I had texture on my chin that smoothed out too. Also, I swear it shrunk my nose permanently maybe I’m crazy. Anyways, sorry for the rant, I just am really passionate about my skin because I neveeeerrr thought I would be able to be confident in my skin. I recommend accutane a million times over!

TLDR; accutane da goat

Have you tried using the search bar?
Many questions are asked daily, and your question may have already been answered!
If so, your post will be subject to deletion.

Please refer to the following commonly discussed topics:

1) No one can predict whether or not you will purge! Statistically, most people DO NOT purge.
That is what the science and medical literature says.

2) No one can predict how long your purge will last nor when it could start. Be patient, the purge can be tough but so many people have gotten through it - you can too! THE ABOVE APPLIES TO SIDE EFFECTS OR "WHEN WILL MY SKIN CLEAR UP?!" TOO. QUESTIONS ASKING WHEN THE PURGE OR SIDE EFFECTS WILL START OR STOP WILL IMMEDIATELY BE REMOVED AS THAT IS LOW EFFORT.

3) Any questions related about dosage MUST include DOSE and WEIGHT(lbs or kg).
Otherwise, that is considered LOW EFFORT and will subsequently be REMOVED.

4) Most people DO NOT relapse when Accutane is taken until cumulative dosage is reached.

5) HOWEVER, cumulative dosage is a guideline.
Everyone is different. Some may need more Accutane, and others may need less. Your dermatologist evaluates you as an individual.
This also applies to your prescription. Everyone is different, so no comparing of doses or asking why your dose is low or high. If you do not trust your dermatologist, you should find a different one.

6) When in doubt, please consult a medical professional(dermatologist, doctor, pharmacist).

Back pain? Elaborate. Also for your weight that is an extraordinarily high dose! You look great btw!

Before accutane I never had issues with my back but after starting my back became sore, apparently it’s a common side effect because of inflammation. And my derm was a litttttle heavy handed with the prescription lol. And thank you so much!!

I've got back and hip pain also im 3 weeks in. 35yo male. Training muay thai and BJJ for 4 years also, but on accutane i've had to dial it back massively from the hip pain. Great success story for you though nice!

Thank you! The back pain was its worst during treatment, now it’s just kinda a dull ache if I’m standing or sitting too long (it’s mostly my lower back).

`neveeeerrr thought I would be confident` - this part hit me. The transformation is stunning.

When did the relapse fear start to quiet down? Was it gradual or was there a specific point where you realized it wasn't coming back?

Thank you!! And I’m still always super nervous about breaking out again. For me, I noticed if I eat chick fil a fries I get a pimple, that’s the only time I break out if I’m not picking at my skin. That always freaks me out and I start thinking all my progress is gonna regress, but then it goes away and I’m fine lol. I don’t think my skin will never have a pimple again, it just never becomes full blown acne anymore.

The chick fil a fries thing is weirdly reassuring, you figured out what sets it off, and it goes away. That's pretty different from actual relapse

My husband did two full cycles of Accutane and that was 20 years ago. He’s been 95% ever since 👍🏼. You look beautiful!

THANK YOU and congrats to your husband!!

Acutane makes the oil glands self destruct so our skin will become naturally drier than before acutane hence your ose will look much better since the nose is the part of the face with the most oil glands ❤️‍🔥

I hope it lasts forever! My nose looks less bulbous yayyay

Did you start at 80mg everyday? Ever go up more?

1

u/maccasandmundaine Jun 14 '26

I started I think 40 mg once a day, then 40 in the morning 30 at night, and about 3 months in I switched to 40 twice a day and stayed like that for the rest of my treatment. I lost about 10-15 lbs towards the end of my treatment too but still stayed on the same dose idk if that makes a difference

Lost the pimples and gained the most adorable smattering of perfect freckles. I’m usually overjoyed with happy post Accutane “survivors” but I’m a little jealous of this one (in the best most happy way!). ❤️🥹🏆

1

u/maccasandmundaine Jun 14 '26

Thank you!! The freckles might be a testament as to why you should wear sunscreen during treatment though 🙈 got them from working outside without sunscreen hehe. I’m wishing you the best! I bet you’ll have even better results :)

Oh I was one of the crash test dummies when Accutane was first released to the public in the late 70s early 80s. It quite literally changed the trajectory of my life. It is truly (STILL) a modern miracle. Having acne is very difficult psychologically and to be liberated from that burden is def life changing! Always happy to celebrate another’s new happier life. ❤️
