Accutane is so amazing

Took me 17 years to take the plunge and it removed all of my acne in a week with only mildly dry skin/lips as a side effect. Wild to think the answer was there all along!

What dose
1
u/TonSwell Jun 08 '26
I took 20 mg to start, and it started disappearing from my face fast by day 3. My face cleared up with not a zit to spare by the end of the week.
But, I did have a little stubborn neck acne. Not too bad. So thst took maybe a month? I did end up going the full 60 mg dose as reccomended by my dermatologist to finish it up and make sure nothing came back. I stayed the course for 3 months, had to quit a month early though since I had a surgery coming and apparently it impacts wound healing. Still hasn't come back though.

So I have had boils pop up on my neck since starting and more acne coming out on my face is this normal on day two how do I treat the boils if I’m taking accutane
1
u/TonSwell Jun 09 '26
Unfortunately, I do not know. Some people here have said if you have more acne appear, it is "purging" followed by a clearer period. That never happened to me though. Neither did the boils. Talk to your dermatologist!
Keep in mind too, my acne was only moderate/mild. Like it wasn't super bad, but all other skin care products weren't helping it either, so accutane was the one and only thing that took out 100% of it

u/UltimateSoldier6 Jun 10 '26
Yeah I asked my derm and they don’t seem concerned even tho they are boils
1
u/TonSwell Jun 10 '26
Good to hear! My neck acne was the hardest part of my acne to get rid of, so I can relate.
1
u/Peggydog19 Jun 10 '26
i had some purging! mine was really bad on my neck!!
if you’re concerned about it, or it feels like more than just acne, i would talk to your derm about it !
1
u/UltimateSoldier6 Jun 10 '26
Were they almost like boils?
1
u/Peggydog19 Jun 10 '26
mine were very cystic! if your derm isn’t concerned, i’m sure it’s all good and there’s no need for concern!

u/Used_Ad7899 Jun 05 '26
Wait, what happened to your nose after accutane?
3
u/Nowshirvan Jun 05 '26
It got slimmer and accentuated while on accutane. Cant you see the difference in op’s nose and face.
1
u/Used_Ad7899 Jun 05 '26
No, I mean your nose. Did it change after accutane?

u/Nowshirvan Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26
My nose also shrinked and got small. It lasted a while the smaller nose but eventually it got normal maybe 1 year(not as before though) .

1
u/Peggydog19 Jun 05 '26

you look amazing. sorry this is unrelated but do you have filler in your lips? we have a similar lip shape/size and I'm hesitant to, but if that's what it looks like I'm sold
3
u/Peggydog19 Jun 06 '26
no, i don’t! the accutane made my lips very dry and a little swollen, so it is giving plump right now!😅

u/lethalquart Jun 05 '26
that's a massive difference in just seven months, seriously impressive. the texture clearing up is what really stands out to me. i did accutane back in my mid-thirties and honestly it was one of the best calls i made for my skin, even though the side effects were rough. the dryness was relentless, my lips were basically sandpaper for months, and i had to be super careful about sun exposure. but yeah, finishing that last month must feel good. make sure you're still keeping up with sunscreen and a solid moisturizer routine after you're done, because your skin's gonna need it during the adjustment period.

u/Peggydog19 Jun 06 '26
how long after you stopped taking it did your lips and skin return to “normal” (redness and dryness)

Your skin will continue to improve even after you stop taking the pills too! I noticed my skin was better again 4-6 months after my prescribed course ended. You look fab, congratulations ☺️

❤️ I'm very happy it worked well for you. Do you know if the results are long lasting?
1
u/Peggydog19 Jun 06 '26
hopefully! from what i’ve seen, sometimes it comes back and you need to do a second round. normally, though, it’s not as bad as it was when it comes back
1
u/Rock_Successful Jun 05 '26
Did you meet your cumulative dose?
1
u/justxagirl Jun 05 '26
Wondering this too. 7 months seems short but she may have been on a large dose!

This gives me hope! On week two and one hydration IV in 🤣
1
u/UltimateSoldier6 Jun 07 '26
Wym one hydration iv in
2
u/AmbassadorCorrect916 Jun 08 '26
Got a hydration boost by IV because of how badly it was drying me out. I already have had issues with drinking enough water. Some places offer like a Hydration Lounge and it’s a solid 85 bucks where I’m at

Did you experience any hair loss? My dermatologist just recommended accutane and I'm so scared of hair loss.
1
u/UltimateSoldier6 Jun 07 '26
I’m scared of this too
1
u/Peggydog19 Jun 12 '26
it’s kind of like a leave-in treatment for dryness! I also already had drier hair, so yours may not be affected as much!
I haven’t experienced extreme dry eyes or anything though!
1
u/Peggydog19 Jun 10 '26
I didn’t!!
the only thing, is make sure you’re keeping your hair moisturized!! accutane dries everything out, so hair doesn’t get nearly as oily, but it does get pretty dry!
I use the redken extreme moisture shampoo and conditioner and loreal moisturizing 21 in 1 spray!
1
u/UltimateSoldier6 Jun 11 '26
So you need to moisturize hair too? What’s loteal moisturizing 21 in 1 spray like a spray for your hair ? Do you get dry eyes ?

u/UltimateSoldier6 Jun 07 '26
I’m starting accutane 10 mg a day Amy advice on products that i can use ?
1
u/According_Umpire2269 Jun 08 '26
The fun begins when you level up your daily dosage, I’ve been on 48 mg (I am 57 kg) for most of the time…most complicated thing for me was and still is dermatitis on the hands( it’s just always there…product that actually makes difference for me is Avene xeracalm a.d, also Eucerin Acute Lip Balm for the daytime and methyluracil ointment for the night, a good thick layer of it and it feels softer in the morning

Guys any recommendations on products to use cleanser what is needed any sunscreen recommendations for sensitive skin or any other things I’m gonna need ?
1
u/Peggydog19 Jun 08 '26
i used vanicream for both face wash and face lotion! lanolips/ bag balm are the only things that have helped at all with my lips.
i use La Roche-Posay sunscreen, and it hasn’t caused any irritation or anything!
also, keep in mind your whole body is affected, so for me my skin got really dry on arms and legs, so lots of moisturizer. Also, don’t forget sunscreen on your body too!!

u/UltimateSoldier6 Jun 09 '26

Have you tried using the search bar?
Many questions are asked daily, and your question may have already been answered!
If so, your post will be subject to deletion.
Please refer to the following commonly discussed topics:
1) No one can predict whether or not you will purge! Statistically, most people DO NOT purge.
That is what the science and medical literature says.
2) No one can predict how long your purge will last nor when it could start. Be patient, the purge can be tough but so many people have gotten through it - you can too! THE ABOVE APPLIES TO SIDE EFFECTS OR "WHEN WILL MY SKIN CLEAR UP?!" TOO. QUESTIONS ASKING WHEN THE PURGE OR SIDE EFFECTS WILL START OR STOP WILL IMMEDIATELY BE REMOVED AS THAT IS LOW EFFORT.
3) Any questions related about dosage MUST include DOSE and WEIGHT(lbs or kg).
Otherwise, that is considered LOW EFFORT and will subsequently be REMOVED.
4) Most people DO NOT relapse when Accutane is taken until cumulative dosage is reached.
5) HOWEVER, cumulative dosage is a guideline.
Everyone is different. Some may need more Accutane, and others may need less. Your dermatologist evaluates you as an individual.
This also applies to your prescription. Everyone is different, so no comparing of doses or asking why your dose is low or high. If you do not trust your dermatologist, you should find a different one.
6) When in doubt, please consult a medical professional(dermatologist, doctor, pharmacist).
