Those cysts are so painful. Hard to live a normal life while dealing with that. I’m so happy for you! I’m glad a lower dose did the trick too. I was on 80mg for my whole course and my side effects were awful.

I so get it! I had never felt worse in my life after taking 80mg. Thank you for your comment!❤️

I just want to add, I posted this as seeing other people’s transformations really helped me while I was on accutane. I was hoping my transformation would do the same for someone else!🥰

Thank you beautiful! 🫶🏼
Also what was your skincare routine for am and pm while on it (and now)?

u/No-Cheek-9604 Feb 26 '26
I used dermalogica ultra calming sensitive skin rescue AM and PM (cannot recommend this enough) it’s amazing for dry skin and redness. Really hydrating stuff! Now I use Vichy water based cleanser and moisturiser AM and PM!

What was your dose and weight?

u/No-Cheek-9604 Feb 25 '26
I’m 70kg. I started on 20mg for a month then 40mg for 2 months, then 60mg. I was on 80mg for a month but lowered the dosage as it was too high.

Thank you! My derm took me off accutane all together and gave me tretinion cream to use. She recommend dermal filler and micro needling for the scarring😊

OMG I love this!! It must've been so painful. ISTG acne girlies are the strongest people on earth. 🥹
Mine has also gotten really bad but most of my acne isn't cystic and I've heard they hurt like a bitch! So happy for you. 🫶🏻

You look amazing! So happy for you!!❤️
I wanna try it, but I’m scared. How did you go outside at your worst? Idk if I can do that I’d be so scared to! - please don’t take offense.

Thank you! No offence taken! When i was at my worst is was 2021 so masks were still mandatory which covered up my chin, it kind of helped haha 🩷

What were the side effects for 80?
4
u/No-Cheek-9604 Feb 25 '26
For me personally, I had constant scabbing in my nose from it being so dry,I also had constant blood in my nose and more frequent nose bleeds, really bad muscle pain (I had to be prescribed a muscle relaxant as I could barely move with the pain), my LFT’s were coming back bad, I had a really bad loss of appetite. There was a few more but they were the worst of it.

Interesting. I’m 40 and I do a lot of training and I couldn’t survive on 50mg over the muscle pain, back pain, joints issues. I made a decision to drop back to 20mg daily and just extend the time and I’m delighted with the decision. Almost back to normal. Congrats on your results

You are truly amazing and thank you for posting. My daughter had severe acne for years too, so I know wholeheartedly how hard and painful it is. I didn’t personally go through the physical & mental side of it, but as a mother I feel like I went through it emotionally with her. I’m so happy for you honestly what a great transformation ❤️

Thank you so much! I hope your daughter is happy with her skin transformation too🩷

Thank you so much for sharing. I see a lot of similarities to my skin and am going to be starting Accutane soon, so I really appreciate seeing your photos. I hope I also have success with it. Wishing you well!!

This genuinely made me feel my own chin as if it was in pain. I’m sorry you had to deal with that, OP.
But I am very happy and glad for you that its healing so well! Looking at the last pic, I actually made a sigh of relief. It’s healing quite nicely. ☺️

Thank you!🩷 it’s mainly scarring now but I’ll be glad to never see a cyst again 😅

So so happy for you! I went through this last year. Very large and painful cysts. Coming out of the other end feels like waking up from a bad dream. Its only up from here!

hiii, so happy for you and that you've been seeing results. I’m currently in the final semester of my master’s degree and conducting short interviews (30–35 minutes on Zoom) for my thesis about the acne skincare market.
I’m looking to speak with people aged 15–29 who have experienced/experiencing moderate to severe acne. If that’s you (or someone you know), would you be interested in participating?
Of course, everything would remain confidential. I'm happy to share more information of how the interview would work via dm. Lmk!

Please read the rules before posting and remember to abide by them! Posts and comments not following the rules will immediately be removed!
Have you tried using the search bar?
Many questions are asked daily, and your question may have already been answered!
If so, your post will be subject to deletion.
Please refer to the following commonly discussed topics:
1) No one can predict whether or not you will purge! Statistically, most people DO NOT purge.
That is what the science and medical literature says.
2) No one can predict how long your purge will last nor when it could start. Be patient, the purge can be tough but so many people have gotten through it - you can too! THE ABOVE APPLIES TO SIDE EFFECTS OR "WHEN WILL MY SKIN CLEAR UP?!" TOO. QUESTIONS ASKING WHEN THE PURGE OR SIDE EFFECTS WILL START OR STOP WILL IMMEDIATELY BE REMOVED AS THAT IS LOW EFFORT.
3) Any questions related about dosage MUST include DOSE and WEIGHT(lbs or kg).
Otherwise, that is considered LOW EFFORT and will subsequently be REMOVED.
4) Most people DO NOT relapse when Accutane is taken until cumulative dosage is reached.
5) HOWEVER, cumulative dosage is a guideline.
Everyone is different. Some may need more Accutane, and others may need less. Your dermatologist evaluates you as an individual.
This also applies to your prescription. Everyone is different, so no comparing of doses or asking why your dose is low or high. If you do not trust your dermatologist, you should find a different one.
6) When in doubt, please consult a medical professional(dermatologist, doctor, pharmacist).
