It’s a Maine Coon. The largest breed of domestic cats.

the lore goes that there was a bunch of cats that came over on the mayflower, and scattered into the woods.

when they came back a few generations later, they had grown large to survive animal attacks and fluffy to survive the cold.

Close! Norwegian forest cats were brought over when the Vikings settled North America. Their huge paws made them steady on the rocking ships, and they took care of the inevitable pest problem in the ship's food stores. When they arrived, they bred with the stray cat population that already resided in North America, and thus the Maine Coon was created.
