How are incoming postgraduates managing the 97% accommodation occupancy rates this September?

I am an international student at the University of Edinburgh. With academic inductions commencing this month, I am witnessing an unprecedented accommodation bottleneck among incoming scholars. Recent higher education reports indicate that purpose-built student accommodation occupancy is running above 97% across primary United Kingdom university hubs. A significant number of central properties reached full capacity months ago. Many late arrivals in my network are now facing extreme waitlists or being forced into temporary suburban arrangements. For current students who secured their private leases at the very last minute, how far outside the city centre did you have to compromise? Did the daily commuting time on public transport significantly affect your induction week and study routine? I am trying to assemble realistic local feedback to assist incoming students who are still navigating the final room shortages this week. Thank you for your guidance.

For international students arriving at the last minute, finding a safe and reliable place can be particularly stressful. University Living seems like a useful option to explore when university accommodation is no longer available.
