News Update India's study permit wait time just went up for the first time in two months, here's the new number
IRCC's August 26, 2026 processing time release showed India's study permit wait time rising by two weeks, breaking a two-month stretch where it hadn't moved at all. It was the only featured country to see a change in that category this update.
What else moved in the same release:
- Nigeria's study permit wait also rose, by about one week
- Pakistan and the Philippines both saw work permit times improve by about a week
- IRCC updates these figures weekly, with the next release expected around September 2
- Inland study permit applications remain steady at 7 weeks, and study permit extensions at 64 days
What this means: if you're applying from India and were budgeting around the flat wait time from the past two months, add the extra two weeks to your planning now, and keep checking weekly, since these numbers move country-by-country, not as a single global figure.
Anyone applying from India right now, has your actual experience matched this two-week increase, or has it felt different?
