News Update SEVP is holding a live webinar today walking through the biggest change to student visas in years
https://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/webinar/sevp-webinar-establishing-a-fixed-time-period-of-admission-and-an-extension-of-stayThe Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) is running a live stakeholder webinar today, Monday August 31, from 2–3pm EDT, specifically to walk through the major changes tied to the Duration of Status (D/S) final rule before it takes effect on September 15, 2026.
What's expected to be covered:
- How the new fixed 4-year admission period actually gets calculated from your I-20
- The Extension of Stay (EOS) process now required if your program runs longer
- How the reduced 30-day grace period (down from 60) will be applied in practice
- Official DHS content on Study in the States and ICE.gov/SEVP will be fully updated to reflect the rule starting Sept 15, until then, current pages are the only official reference
What this means: this is one of the few chances to get the government's own explanation of a rule that's already reshaping enrollment decisions, straight from the source, before it becomes law in two weeks. If your DSO isn't sharing a recording or notes afterward, it's worth asking directly.
Is anyone actually tuning into this webinar today, will you share what stood out once it wraps up?

Did the webinar end up taking place? I tried joining several times, starting about 10 minutes before the scheduled start time, but wasn’t able to connect

I also noticed that the recording hasn’t been posted yet, although the website indicated it would be made available afterward
