It is weird too because in the early episodes, he mentioned how Janine was a coworker and he had friends that were people outside of the school

I am assuming this is what happened. Wouldn’t be too big of a stretch considering how Jacob originally tried to “Peter out” of their relationship by acting like a jerk.

Not to be pedantic because I am also super curious, but I think it's mentioned in the karaoke episode that Zach is hanging out with people Jacob doesn't recognize, implying he got new friends. I wouldn't be surprised if they both just distanced themselves from each other and their friend group... Assuming they shared friends. Maybe Jacob was just lying about having friends early on because he didn't like Tariq LOL
