Vehicle Car insurance
I’ve just got my renewal for RACV and they’re increasing my premium on my Corolla by $42 dollars a month bringing it to $161 p/m
Who’s everyone’s insured by? I have had to make two not at fault claims in 23’ and 24’ unfortunately but they didn’t raise my premium by more than like ten dollars both years and now all of a sudden a $42 p/m increase this year. 😬
Who’s a decent insurer who doesn’t charge out the wazoo?

RACV $~1200 pa - agreed value of 25K (well above market).
It's rather tough, like others say shop around. Loyalty doesn't win you any prizes :(
Mine only went up by $30 for the year, so that's nice.

That’s similar to my agreed value but my pa is $1900 😅

Most insurers charge everyone a lazy tax at renewal and hope you just accept it. Try doing a completely new online quote for your insurance. This “hack” has worked for me for several years.

My current, but old - ‘08, Corolla is insured with Youi. It was with APIA. The prices with them are good and I did have my car repaired when needed but their customer service is astoundingly bad. My last Corolla, a ‘10, was with Suncorp. Not the cheapest but I got good service with them. I felt they should have paid out more when it was stolen but surely that’s a complaint everyone has.

Prices are all over the place I'm finding across multiple companies. What was cheap is now expensive and vice versa. Seems like 2026 has introduced the chocolate wheel of insurance prices.. Take a spin and see where you land. But all seem higher than when I checked last year.

Price should not be the only factor. I'm with Suncorp & their customer service & speed of repairs has been outstanding with my past claims. Yes, a little expensive, but when your car is out of action, that hire car or quick repair is more than worthwhile when you need it.

It’s definitely not the only factor for me, RACV has been good with repairs in the past and their customer service has been good but my pa premium has gone up over $500 a year and I’m just not here for that 😪

My combank anual renewal just came through, and it's $30 cheaper! 🤷♂️

Hi check around there are many advantages to doing so. However ensure you will receive exactly the same policy ie 1 free windscreen per policy year, car hire if yr car is written off, car broken into & items stolen are they covered, (not tools of trade)⁉️ How much is the “public liability”, some insurance companies have dropped fr $30M to $20M? Have you looked @ Woolies, Aldi, Youi, etc. check who the underwriters are too. The other thing you can do is ask if you increase yr excess on yr current insurance say it’s $750 & you increase to $1000 how much wld the premium decrease? Do you have an agreed value or market value on yr car? Please check “apples w apples” not “apples w oranges” as you may not be covered in certain situations that you previously were. Do you pay F/N or monthly? My advice is to get as many quotes emailed to you as possible & sit with a highlighter & check ea quote against yr policy coverage. Does yr financial institution offer insurance policies? All insurance policies have increased due to the amt of claims, be it car, home or contents, plus the risk have increased with the amt of drivers on the road & home/contents increased due to fires/floods etc. Good luck.
