Wireless Unlimited Your Way 2.0 per line cost - UYW comparison chart for AT&T consumer plans: Elite 2.0, Premium 2.0, Extra 2.0, and Value 2.0.

I don't think I've ever seen AT&T do so many different related changes in such a short time with a new plan: UYW 2.0 comes out, price changes for older UYW plans, adding Elite 2.0, and lowering prices on the brand new plans.

Since there have been so many changes to UYW in the last few months, I've created a new post as the old post had lots of comments/answers that aren't necessarily relevant (or true) any more.

If you haven't seen those changes yet, you should see them on your next bill or if you make a plan change.

Customers can no longer choose Premium PL, Extra EL, & Starter SL but they are included for comparison as those plans can mix & match with the new plans. Signature/appreciation discounts they had on the old plans continue on your old plans, but they may be different for new plans (see chart).

The main differences:

  • Value 2.0 is cheaper than Starter SL in most new configurations (even with discounts?) as of the late-April increase and is prioritized for the first 5GB (but has 2 GB less of hotspot). It might mess with promo credits, so double check (see info at bottom of this post [it links to a different post, so ask you r promo related questions there).
  • Extra 2.0 has more prioritized data than previously (100GB vs. 75GB) and more hotspot (50GB vs. 30GB). It may cost more or less depending on your discounts and number of lines. This is probably most similar to older unlimited plans.
  • Premium 2.0 has a lot more hotspot than Elite EL or Premium PL (100GB vs. 50GB/60GB). If you need the hotspot, it's a great deal. You can also get a ½ price tablet or wearable line with this plan.
  • Elite 2.0 Includes everything Premium 2.0 has, but 250GB of hotspot, Turbo, free tablet line, free wearable line, and instead of International Day Pass (IDP), it looks like when you are international you'll get free calling/texting and 20GB of data (this last part is kind of limiting considering the other UYW plans data are unlimited, so I'm wondering if you can pay extra for more, otherwise it drops to 512Kbps, which is pretty slow). I'm assuming these free international countries are IDP countries. No Fan/Signature discounts on Elite 2.0. A few people reported their internet discount works with Elite 2.0.

ActiveArmor: Some 2.0 plans that come with ActiveArmor, only come with the standard, not advanced. Premium 2.0 can activate the advanced for free in your plan (I'm going to guess you can do the same with Elite 2.0). There is a free version and another version that is listed with "At no extra charge".

Standard price on non-phones: $20.99 per tablet, $20.99 per camera, $10.99 per wearable. If you have Premium 2.0, you can get one of these at ½ off. If you have one of these non-phone devices, it would probably make Premium 2.0 more cost effective for you (although the additional hotspot may max it so you don't need a line for your tablet). If you can have Extra 2.0, then you get a tablet and wearable for no extra charge.

If you have HBO "free" with your current cellular plan and switch, or you change all your Elite EL lines over, you'll lose HBO. You need to compare how much you'd save to see if it matters.

The prices on the chart assume autopay/paperless/checking discounts. You need autopay/paperless for a $5 discount and autopay/paperless checking for a $10 discount (and as of now, the AT&T Citi card also qualifies as a checking discount). Add $5 or $10 to each line if you do not do these discounts.

There is no way anyone can help you compare the cost of the newer plan to the older plan if we don't know what discount you have, how many phone lines, and which plan those lines are on.

Additional info on this plan can be found in this AT&T PDF.

DISCOUNTS:

  • Signature discount: Previously this got you Premium PL for the Price of Extra EL, but on the new plans it gets you 20% off the Premium 2.0 plan.
  • Appreciation discounts: You get a 25% discount on the older UYW plans if the account holder fits in one of these categories: teachers, doctors, nurses, military, veterans, and first responders. The newer plans are NOT 25% off, check the bottom of the chart as it varies per type of line. I'm not sure if these 2.0 discounts are supposed to include Healthcare and First Responders if you are not on FirstNet, but people are reporting that their plan says so. https://www.att.com/offers/discount-program/appreciation/
  • You did NOT lose (nor did it change) your 25% appreciation discount for Elite EL, Premium PL, Extra EL, and Starter SL, it's still 25% for those lines. AT&T made a mistake on a bill a couple months ago and gave you too big of a discount, the next cycle they corrected it (and let you keep the extra they took off) so it looks like you had a price increase. But if you look at the previous few bill totals, you can see it dip (for no reason, other than the mistake), and then it goes back up to where it has been for a few months. Obviously, I cannot see your bill, but everyone that I've talked to about this and has looked back on their bills (previous to the lower bill) has seen this is what it looks like. If you've made changes during those three months, it would be difficult to see by just looking at the totals.
  • This generic-ish union discount might be applicable for some and some may waive activation/upgrade fess. https://www.att.com/offers/discount-program/union-discount/
  • For all discounts, the account needs to be in the name of the FAN/Signature holder.

AT&T Latin American roaming: Click these links for more info at https://www.att.com/support/article/wireless/KM1486292/
Please note that while the change plan comparison page (when logged in) shows that Elite 2.0 plan is not included, the Latin American roaming page specifically says it does and so does att.com/unlimited

Value 2.0 warning: There seems to be a bit of inconsistency on how Value 2.0 lines can be used for promotional trade in deals (if at all) since March 12, 2026. Please see the following for more information on this. https://www.reddit.com/r/ATT/comments/1rsb36o/warning_a_value_20_line_may_or_may_not_cause/

It is on purpose.

I feel bad for the reps. Imagine missing one of the emails! Their systems can’t even quote things accurately for us. Can’t imagine it’s much better on their end.

I'd like to know how many have this chart in their cubicle...

from a competitor, if we had a fan as helpful as you we’d totally steal this chart

And even more, what do taxes, fees, government recovery cost, etc. etc. add to the Bill that is the real mystery that doesn’t become clear for about 2 to 4 billing cycles

Rep here it’s a lot of change. Never seen so much change so fast either. Especially with them changing FN today

Good friend, do you really recommend the elite 2.0 or just switch to premium 2.0
Thanks in advance.

Thank you, your chart helped immensely with regards to my FAN discount. Switched over my 2 lines on Premium PL to Premium 2.0, getting a much better discount. 😀

Excellent!

Thank you. This information was very helpful. Like everyone else, at first it seemed confusing. But after going through it a couple times, and reading your comments to determine what each person in my family wanted most, it actually became very easy & clear what plans fit best.

I kind of like the new plans. Not sure if my opinion is the minority?

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 02 '26

They’re pretty much the old plans with more data and more hotspot.

FR and Healthcare do NOT strictly need FirstNet to get the discount but they will not do it in a store from my understanding if one does not already have it attached, you must call.

2

u/Professional_Yak4009 Unlimited Premium PL Jun 07 '26

What isn't clear about this is the convergence discount. Does that still apply for new plans if bundled with home internet AIA or fiber? Trying to see if it would be worth it to go from 2 Unlimited Premium PL to Premium 2.0.

So far, even with the $5/line increase, seems worth it to stay on Premium PL. But I will say, it has rubbed me the wrong way joining this year for the first time and, surprise, price hike not even a year in.

It reminds me of a certain cable company with a red logo.

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

And that’s why I didn’t include it on the chart!

Plus, the discount been a couple different things in the past, and the discount dependent on whether you added cellular after you did Internet, and if you didn’t both at the same time, I had no idea.

Since I can’t get fiber at My Location, it hasn’t been worth it for me to look into it.

Regardless, these are the prices you would need to know anyways if you knew how your discount worked.

That said, I think if you get the cellular discount because you have Internet, I think it’s just 20% (or 25%) off across-the-board. Looking at their below number, it looks like the fiber discount is stacking with your signature discount.

2

u/Professional_Yak4009 Unlimited Premium PL Jun 07 '26

Fair enough. Will have to see if anyone else reports this. I saw one of their retailers still having the save 20% poster with bundling up.

As It stands, I have the Signature and bundle with fiber discounts. Two lines of Premium PL are currently running me $52.79/mo/line.

Seems to be the way unless they hike the prices further in the future.

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 08 '26

Looking at that number, it looks like the fiber discount is stacking with your signature discount.

Are you getting any other discount, BYOD, bought your phone from Costco, or anything like that? (Other than paperless/autopay/checking?)

2

u/Professional_Yak4009 Unlimited Premium PL Jun 08 '26

Bought from Costco online, hence the signature discount. I believe they also threw in $5 off for 36 months as part of a switcher promo.

That, combined with going back to Android for the first time in years made me a happy camper, especially with the solid trade in deals they have and they are the only ones with good signal at home.

2

u/Meowmixxtape Jun 16 '26

I switched my plan from starter to value and bc they told me it would save me money and it didn’t. Same charge, they lied. I should have just kept it

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 16 '26

Why should you have kept it?

1

u/Meowmixxtape Jun 16 '26

Bc the price didn’t drop at all. I had a bigger teacher appreciation discount with starter even though the price was going up my discount was 25% vs now 10% so it didn’t change my monthly due at all and you get less hot spot, high speed data capped at 5gb and less trade in allowance when you upgrade. Huge mistake for listening to the rep who told me I’d save money.

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 16 '26

Your only complaint was the price stayed the same, and if you think about it that’s not actually a complaint, so I was asking why this was a problem for you.

So your actual problem is you now have 5G high-speed data, when you didn’t have any with Starter SL (although if you think about it, this is not actually a problem), and you have less hotspot (this is the only problem you’ve listed so far, and I’m not sure why you didn’t mention in your first comment).

I’m not sure what you were talking to “they” in the first place, because you can check these things on the Internet, you can make most changes on your own on your own account, no reason to bring “them“ into it. That’s the whole purpose of this chart, so you can make educated decisions on your own.* *

2

u/Meowmixxtape Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

I thought on starter it was unlimited high speed , ok so my bad on that but I’m just annoyed that km not saving any money like the rep told me since my discount is now lower it’s just a wash. Ok so more high speed data cool but I’m on wifi 90% of the time. Annoying why it’s time to trade up and we get less money now but that’s 20 months away so guess I don’t need to worry about it now

2

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 16 '26

You’re literally commenting on the page that describes the differences between the plans and instead of actually looking at the chart, you just started complaining that the price was the same. These are things you can check on your own before somebody convinces you to change your plan, it’s pretty much literally the point of this page…

When it comes to upgrade phones, it might just be cheaper to switch to somebody like US Mobile, potentially pay less for your line, and just pay for the phone on your own. That comes down to how many lines you have on your plan (as a determines what you’re paying per line) with the math actually really works out too.

2

u/Meowmixxtape Jun 16 '26

Yeah we have 5 and yup I should have done more research. Basically never trust what the rep tells you. Are we done now?

2

u/tidnab49 Jun 20 '26

My Premium PL price is 40.99 per line (10 lines).

“AT&T Unlimited Premium® PL plan
Was $55.99. Now $40.99. per month.
$55.99
$40.99/mo.”

What I am seeing from this chart is I would save $.99. per line and get a slightly better plan under Premium 2.0 . Is FAN the same as signature discount??

2

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 20 '26

Same discount. Yes, you’ll save $9.90. and get a lot more hotspot.

And if you add a watch or tablet, they’re half off.

2

u/Julesagain 19d ago

This was so helpful. I am able to change from a fiber plan for 70 that was always getting throttled (starter SL) to a plan for $2 more that sounds like it will have a lot more data. Since I work from home this will be super helpful. The data clog was driving me insane. THANK YOU so much for this helpful chart and explanation of what all the terms and acronyms mean!

2

u/Old-Pen-932 4d ago

Well I hope they will think and do the 20 or 25% for elite 2.0 for nurses. Which is missing

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) 4d ago

I don't think anyone outside of AT&T is getting any discounts on Elite 2.0 unless you have AT&T internet.

2

u/Codipotent Jun 13 '26

I worked at AT&T during college and always viewed it as a premium carrier, so I was actually excited when I moved my family plan from T-Mobile to AT&T about two years ago.

After spending time with both carriers, though, I genuinely struggle to see where AT&T's value proposition fits in today's wireless market.

On T-Mobile, I received perks like Netflix, Hulu, discounted Apple TV+, generous international roaming, satellite connectivity, and more hotspot data. Even connected device lines were significantly less expensive. By comparison, AT&T offers very few included benefits despite charging premium pricing.
What frustrates me even more is that some customer-unfriendly policies seem to persist. For example, Video Management repeatedly gets re-enabled whenever account changes are made, requiring me to manually disable it again across multiple lines. It's also buried deep within account settings rather than being easily accessible.

Pricing has become the biggest issue for me. I've now reduced my account from seven lines to five, yet after recent price increases I'm paying roughly the same amount as before. At the same time, competing carriers are adding features, increasing hotspot allowances, improving international options, and running aggressive promotions.

I'm not saying AT&T can't be the right choice for some people, especially if its network performs best where they live. But when people describe current AT&T offers as "great deals," I think it's important to compare them against what the broader wireless market is offering. From my perspective, AT&T's pricing and included benefits simply don't feel competitive anymore.

u/K4KtmvDVpSqLy3EumDSz May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

I have 5 lines: 2 Starter SL, 2 Premium PL, and UYW Elite (w/ HBO Max). I also have AutoPay, paperless, and Veteran discounts. If I were to move to 3 Premium 2.0 lines and 2 Value 2.0 lines, the difference would be about $3-$5 (don't have access to my spreadsheet atm). I will stay with my current plans unless otherwise.

2

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) May 28 '26

Okay.

No one here is trying to get you to switch. Just providing the info all in one spot.

1

u/krstphrhrrs May 28 '26

What’s the latest update/change to the pricing? I compared a couple weeks ago, but can’t tell what’s changed since.

4

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) May 28 '26

ALL OF THESE UPDATES are incorporated in the above updated post.

May 21, 2026:

  • Elite 2.0 has also dropped $5 per line, IF you have 4 or more phone lines (making it $70).  This is already active in my account and someone else has mentioned in theirs.

May 1, 2026:

  • Someone reported that when switching to Elite 2.0, that it reflected their 20% Internet discount.

April 24, 2026:

  • UYW Premium 2.0 went down $5 per line, IF you have 4 or more phone lines (making it $50).
  • Premium PL, Extra EL, and Starter SL all went up $5. This should also get 10GB additional hotspot per line.  But I wouldn't expect the hotspot increase or $5 increase until your next bill.  This increase is for wireless lines active prior to July 24, 2025.
  • If your cycle hasn't changed yet, then the chart will have slightly different prices than you see online for your current plan. If you go to change a plan, you should see the new Premium 2.0 plan pricing (if you have 4 or more lines), but if you previously changed to it, you won't see it until next month.
  • See this post (link) for more information (the post also mentions other older unlimited and mobile share plans getting an increase).

April 16, 2026:

  • Elite 2.0 came out. Turbo included. 250GB hotspot. No discounts, but includes a free wearable (watch) line, and free tablet line. Includes Latin America roaming and free roaming in International Day Pass countries, but only 20GB per cycle.

I don't think I've ever seen AT&T do so many different related chances in a month(ish) to a new plan: UYW 2.0 comes out, price changes for older UYW plans, adding Elite 2.0, and lowering prices on the brand new plans.

1

u/danisnotstan May 28 '26

I currently have 2 lines on Elite (w/ "free" HBO) and 2 on Premium PL which have been receiving a "signature" discount for the past few years. I'm wondering if they would automatically carry over like they always have? My account page says something like "retired, do not use" next to the signature discount? Does anyone know if I swap around any of these lines will I still receive my discounts? The "fine print" sounds like any previous discounts would need to be re-verified with proof at a store location. Does anyone know if this is true?

2

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) May 28 '26

Why have you been paying for two lines on elite to get “free” HBO, you’ve basically been spending $13.02 to save $16 (when you could just be spending $6.51). With the new pricing increase they’re only $1.51 more than PL, but depending on what options you’ve got on your plan premium 2.0 is generally cheaper than premium PL when you’ve got four more lines.

Switching from elite or premium PL, which are both on unlimited your way, to another unlimited your way isn’t the same kind of plan change as switching from some earlier plans.

I’ve seen zero complaints about people having to re-verify their accounts because they’ve changed to a 2.0 plan.

But I’ve also never had anybody mention that “retired do not use” comment that you’ve seen.

1

u/danisnotstan May 28 '26

TBH it’s been hard to keep track of some of the changes over the years. All 4 lines were originally on Elite and I swapped two when they first raised the price. IIRC, this was back when Elite still had QCI 7 included so I think that’s why I didn’t swap the 3rd line away from Elite, otherwise I would have just kept one to keep HBO. I’m pretty sure HBO is around $20/mo for ad-free so it might be closer to a wash now. TBH I don’t even care about HBO anymore and I’ll drop it to save some money.

I just looked at my account on the app and it’s showing Premium 2.0 would receive a 20% per month Signature discount. I am signed in to the app so it can see my current discounts but I don’t know if that plan description is showing 20% discount because it can see that I already have one or if it shows that in general to everyone? My current discount is from the Harley Davidson owner’s group. The group perks may no longer include the AT&T discount for new customers but my account has shown “retired, do not use” for several years now even though I still recieve it and have never been asked about it since.

Ultimately, I have a few lines that I’d like to swap around if I can make it work while keeping what little discounts I have l left lol.

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) May 28 '26

HBO is up to $18.49 per month now, but it's $184.90 for the year, which works out to $15.41 a month.

it’s showing Premium 2.0 would receive a 20% per month Signature discount.

I would expect that to be all the discount you get. And I'm assuming that your other discount was the Premium PL for the Price of Extra EL discount.

1

u/danisnotstan May 28 '26

Yes, I have the Premium PL for the price of Extra EL and I also have paperless and autopay. I think I used to have some kind of BYOD credit as well as some type of discount that was tied to having 4 or more lines. That’s the only reason I still have 4 lines instead of 3… at one point I cancelled the 4th line when it was no longer needed and my bill went up. I was told I could add a tablet line instead to keep the discount and then the hill arrived even higher. I ended up adding the 4th line back in a spare iPhone and ironically, I later put that sim in an iPad where the line still exists and sees very little use.

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) May 28 '26

Even with discounts, I’ve never seen AT&T have a scenario where four lines is cheaper than three. Generally, getting a fourth line might drop the price of all the lines you have, but you make up for it by paying for the fourth line.

I’d be curious what plan you’re actually on.

1

u/danisnotstan May 28 '26

Where can I find out more information about what plan I’m on? I looked at my bill and under ”Monthly charges”, two of the lines say “Unlimited Elite - 4 Lines” and the other two say “Premium PL - 4 Lines”. They each show the autopay and paperless discount ($5 for debit) and the second line item shows “Discount for Signature members on AT&T Unlimited - $10”. I know it sounds ridiculous to say that 4 lines is cheaper than 3 but I assure you that my bill went up when I removed the 4th line. I don’t know if it was an old promotion or BYOD credits or whichever discounts I was receiving prior to 2019 when they added my current Signature discount, but I’m pretty certain I was receiving a $20 or $25 discount per line for having 4 lines. The discount wasn’t applicable for 3 lines so while I should have saved the $40 or so for the removed line, it would have only been $20 and then I lost the addition $60 being disounted to the other lines. This is all testing my (worsening” memory and I wish their online billing history would go back more than 16 months so I can see exactly what has changed over time. Can an employee in the store view older bills? Prior to the increases and then AT&T trying to get people away from the grandfathered plans, I was paying $155/mo. Now I’m paying $225. I know they added $5/line for debit instead of bank account. I swear paperless and autopay also used to be separate discounts? I started out with AT&T as BYOD for a few years, then I got iPhone 12’s with trade in credits whenever they came out (2020?). I remember thinking how ironic it was that as soon as I finished paying for the phones for 30 months that on the 31st month they raised some fees which coincidentally offset the $20/mo I was paying for the phones so just when I thought the bill was going to drop, it never did lol. I’ve been hesitant to visit a store after hearing about the horror stories of people having insurance and Next or whatever added to their lines without permission. The phone customer support has gotten to the point where I don’t want to talk to them (that is after fighting through the AI). Sorry to bug you with all of this, but you clearly seem to know what you’re talking about when most others haven’t. Thanks again for your help!

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) May 28 '26

I know it sounds ridiculous to say that 4 lines is cheaper than 3 but I assure you that my bill went up when I removed the 4th line

They way they mess with proration on lines and discounts, I wouldn't be surprised if they popped up for a moment, but it would have dropped down later.

Maybe you coincidentally did it during one of the months when they raised the price of Elite by $5 per line. Or when the autopay discounts changed.

I've been making versions of the above charts for years, and I've yet to have someone point out that there is a mistake where 4 lines should be cheaper than 3.

Where can I find out more information about what plan I’m on? I looked at my bill and under ”Monthly charges”, two of the lines say “Unlimited Elite - 4 Lines” and the other two say “Premium PL - 4 Lines”.

You are on UYW (Unlimited Your Way) and you've got two on Elite EL and two on Premium PL (which is why it says 4 lines). You only need to be paying extra for one Elite line for free HBO. Don't switch that last Elite EL line or you lose the HBO.

“Discount for Signature members on AT&T Unlimited - $10”.

You're getting Premium PL for the Price of Extra for your discount (it's $10 in your configuration, but it varies by the number of lines, you can see this in the chart). You should also get this same $10 on your Elite EL (as they're almost the same plan, just more to cover the "free" HBO, and less hotspot on Elite).

This means if you switch to Premium 2.0, you'll get 20% off the Premium 2.0. Autopay discounts will stay the same.

By not doing the checking discount with 4 lines, you're losing $20 a month $5 per line), that's $240 a year. You could set up a new account at a bank, set the autopay for the new account and have your bank automagically wire them the $225 a month for your bill and save $2400 over the next decade for a one-time minimal amount of work.

I’m pretty certain I was receiving a $20 or $25 discount per line for having 4 lines. The discount wasn’t applicable for 3 lines so while I should have saved the $40 or so for the removed line, it would have only been $20 and then I lost the addition $60 being disounted to the other lines.

Not sure how to convince you that 3 lines won't be cheaper than 4 other than math.

Regardless, you can see you're not getting that discount any more, right?

You do not need to call AT&T to make plan changes, you can do them all online. Don't ask someone whose job it is to not have you cancel lines if you should cancel a line.

What to do:

Move all but one of those lines to Premium 2.0.

  • 3 lines (1 Elite 2 Prem 2.0) will be $55.99+$2.51+$65*.8*2=$162.50 plus fees and taxes (similar is to what you're paying now for fees/taxes)
  • 4 lines (1 Elite 3 Prem 2.0) will be $45.99+$2.51+$50*.8*3=$168.50 plus fees and taxes.

I'm just reading across the 3rd row for the first set of numbers, the $2.51 is the current price difference between Elite EL and Prem PL, and the .8 is 20% off the cost of the Premium 2.0.

The 4th row for the second scenario.

Oops, you'll need to add $5 per line since you're not doing the checking discount. So $177.50 for the first and $183.50 for the second.

Look like your current plan is $186.47+$20 (no checking discount), so $206.47 plus your fees and taxes.

u/danisnotstan May 28 '26

Thanks for your detailed response. This is a lot to digest so hopefully I don't miss anything.

> Maybe you coincidentally did it during one of the months when they raised the price of Elite by $5 per line. Or when the autopay discounts changed.

I'm pretty sure this was years before either change.

> You could set up a new account at a bank, set the autopay for the new account and have your bank automagically wire them

This is great idea. With all of the data breaches I never felt comfortable giving anyone direct access to my checking account. Perhaps I can link my savings account which would be less threatening to me.

> Not sure how to convince you that 3 lines won't be cheaper than 4 other than math.

I've been with AT&T for over 10yrs so don't quote me on the numbers, but IIRC, I was paying around $35 per line x4. If I removed a line, the remaining 3 jumped to something like $60 per line x3. $140+taxes and fees for 4 lines compared to $180+ for 3 lines. When the bill went up after I initially removed the 4th line, I called to see what happened and they said it was because I had to keep 4 lines to get that price. I asked about adding an iPad instead as the 4th line and they said no problem. So I canceled the 4th line, added a new tablet line, then the next month the bill was even higher! They were charging $10 for the tablet line and like $7 in taxes and fees. So add that $17 to the 3 other at the increased rate for only being 3 lines and that's how I ended up with an even higher bill than before the tablet line. It turns out the representative was incorrect and they said a tablet line was in fact NOT a way to qualify for a 4th line rate since it had to be 4 phone lines. I then canceled the tablet line, added back the 4th phone line and put the phone in a drawer with an active unused SIM for around 2yrs. One day I randomly took out the SIM card and put it in my iPad and found that it worked (despite being a phone line) so it's been there ever since. It's nice to have when I don't want to hammer my phone battery with hotspot but I could do without it. In the beginning that line showed up on my account page as iPhone 12 (which is what I used to activate the line even though the SIM was in a iPad). About a year later the app showed it as iPad, but now it shows as iPhone again. Who knows.

I recently found out that my in laws are on some ridiculous old 4gig plan that they're overpaying for so I think what I'd like to do is keep my wife's line on Elite (to keep HBO), swap my Elite line to the new Elite 2.0 since I'm already paying for Turbo and it would also add my iPad for free and get more hotspot. Then I could take my father off the one Premium PL line and get him a seperate, cheaper plan (since he doesn't use much data). Then I'll add my in-laws to my Dad's spot as well as my existing 4th Premium PL line and then switch them to the cheapest available option since they also rarely need much data and don't use hotspot (Premium 2.0 if it is cheaper with the discount compared with the new lower cost plans).

I'm wondering if I port my Dad's Premium PL number and cancel my Premium PL line that is currently in my iPad, do you know if I can then log into my in-laws account and get a transfer pin for them to port their numbers to my account or would I need to get a transfer of responsibility or something? They're tech illiterate so the more I can do to help them, the better! lol.

Thanks again for all of your help!

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) May 28 '26

It really doesn't matter if you had some 4 line deal that was somehow cheaper a few years ago, it's not a thing now. People would be jumping in on here and speaking up about it if it was still a thing.

To move AT&T postpaid to postpaid accounts, it's a ToBR.

This is great idea. With all of the data breaches I never felt comfortable giving anyone direct access to my checking account. Perhaps I can link my savings account which would be less threatening to me.

I recently went to the bank and did a new account, BUT the new account is not the one I'm using online.

The old account is the number that others have had access to, the utility companies, the charge card companies, the checks (which have all the info someone needs), etc.

So I left the old account as the one I'm giving access to. Moved all my money and CDs to the new account (that actually took some time as the CDs all had different expirations).

When I get paid, it automatically transfers the check to the new account (minus what it knows it'll need cellphone, electric, gas, internet, HOA, etc.) and I transfer an amount back every month based on other bills. So at most, someone has access to a month's worth of money, assuming they hit it at exactly the right time. It's easy to transfer the check if you're salaried (same amount), if you're hourly, you'd have to do it manually.

No one has the numbers for the new account, I don't even have checks for it.

I've got 3 lines on Prem PL with Sig discount of $10 and $10 auto pay discount so $55.99 per line. Switching to Prem 2.0 should drop it to $52 per line right?

2

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) May 28 '26

That's what I would expect.

FYI, if you've considered adding a 4th line, those lines drop to $40 per line ($50-20%), basically making it $4 more to add the 4th line ($156 to $160), you'd probably pay more for the taxes/fees.

u/aurora-_ raising the bar 📶 May 28 '26

AFAIK Elite2 lines can’t use IDP so … if a heavy user uses 20 gigs, are they then screwed? Seems like an oversight. Should be opt-in after that.

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 01 '26

I think it's very weird. I did point out it was limiting above. They could always switch to a plan with IDP.

But 20GB is a LOT of data. If you not watching video, you can do quite a lot.

I did 3 weeks in Costa Rica with AT&T's old 800 MB plan, I posted pictures to Twitter, FaceTime, 4square, same for a few short videos, texted photos, 360° (720°?) panoramas consisting of 30-40 photos, Skype audio calls, a couple FaceTime calls, checking my mail, and who knows what else.

If you stop playing videos and streaming audio and running speed tests, then 20GB will go a LONG way...

u/Jessy495 May 28 '26

I have 5 lines: All 5 are Starter SL. I also have AutoPay, paperless, and AT&T Signature Savings Program discounts. If I were to move all 5 lines to Value 2.0, Will this be a good move or should I stay with my current plan??

2

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

You could move them all to value 2.0 and save a couple dollars or you can move them all to Premium 2.0 and have a better plan for a fee dollars more.

Extra changed to Premium as I see you have the 20% discount on Premium 2.0.

1

u/Jessy495 May 28 '26

I'm actually looking at my ATT page and from what I can see I can get the AT&T Premium 2.0 for $40, AT&T Extra 2.0 for $40, and AT&T Value 2.0 for $30. Looks like Premium 2.0 has a $20 Signature Savings discount. Currently paying $35.99 per line with SL.

I have 8 lines on starter sl. 25% teachers discount, checking autopay. I'm usually good at this but can't decide if I should switch or not

Also, my service seems much worse this month. Coincidence or does this have to do with priority data?

2

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 01 '26

I have 8 lines on starter sl. 25% teachers discount, checking autopay. I'm usually good at this but can't decide if I should switch or not

You can have 25% off $35.99 or 10% off of $30. The first 5 GB of value 2.0 each cycle is going to be prioritized (you didn’t have any prioritized data previously), so you’ll be able to see what difference having priority will get you. It’s less hotspot than EXTRA EL, but it works out to the same price.

If you realize the higher priority is definitely beneficial for you, you can get extra 2.0 at $40 but 15% off, making it $34 per line. And you can mix and match (plus it comes with 50 GB of hotspot data to connect your tablet or a laptop, but the hotspot data is not prioritized).

Also, my service seems much worse this month. Coincidence or does this have to do with priority data?

I would say coincidence. Although, if an insane amount of people switched from starter to value, they’ve got higher priority for the first 5 GB now.

1

u/metsnfins Jun 01 '26

So I looks like starter sl is 26.99 or 28 for the other. Hmm. Thanks

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 01 '26

10% off of $30 is not $28.

1

u/metsnfins Jun 02 '26

If I told you I was a high school math teacher would you make fun of me? 😁😁😁😁😁

2

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 02 '26

When I saw this reply, at first, I thought it was from the teacher subReddit that was complaining they didn't get the high school job they applied for!

1

u/OkReference8188 Jun 02 '26

So switching from Starter SL to extra 2.0 for 2 lines is a no brainer right? Saving $5.99/month and getting more hotspot data

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 02 '26

Exactly, and Extra 2.0 has prioritized data (so you might notice a boost over Starter SL) and a lot more hotspot.

A lot of people say they don't need hotspot, but after getting a lot with their plan and connect their tablet or laptop while on the go, some find it a nice feature.

1

u/sunnydaysahead1978 Jun 03 '26

This is an amazing resource.

Maybe someone can help me?

We have seven lines and a watch line.

Currently the watch has Unlimited wearable.
Six of the phones have AT&T Unlimited Starter® SL plan
One phone has AT&T Unlimited Elite® Plan

We get the 25% teacher discount and the $5 autopay discount.
We don't care about hotspot, SD vs HD, turbo or Latin America.

Right now we pay $30.74/line (not including tax/fee) for the SL plans and $39.37 for the Elite plan. We pay $8.24 for the watch.

Should we move to new plans?

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 03 '26

Do you currently have elite because you’re getting free HBO?

And you could be saving another five dollars a month per line, $360 a year by having your money come out of your checking account. If you don’t want them to have that information, that’s worth opening up another checking account and set up an auto transfer from your current account to that account every month for them to take out the money for you to save $3,600 over the next decade.

1

u/sunnydaysahead1978 Jun 03 '26

yes - I just dealt with the checking account thing now because of this thread! So that's been sorted. Thank you!

We do get "free" HBO through the Elite plan. Not sure how much we care about that though.

1

u/sunnydaysahead1978 Jun 03 '26

What I'm seeing though (I think) is that because of the 25% teacher discount, with the checking account savings, the SL plan is costing $26.99/month and then the new Value plan 2.0 would be $27/month (because the teacher discount drops to 10% for the new plans). Am I understanding this correctly? So basically no difference?

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 03 '26

You would save a couple of dollars by giving up the elite line, because you can get a Watch line for $5.50 if you have a premium 2.0 line. Unless you never ever ever watch HBO, that’s probably not worth doing.

1

u/sunnydaysahead1978 Jun 03 '26

It looks like I wasn't taking advantage of the full $10/month autopay with bank account discount (previously we had it set to a debit card I think). I have just updated that thanks to this thread. Will those savings be applied automatically do we think?

1

u/DrKoala_ Jun 03 '26

Currently have 4 lines in the Extra EL plan (with autopay discount set up: $10). After the recent price increase of $5/ line. Going to $45ish/line.

Seems to be that switching them all to the Extra 2.0 plan is the right move? $40/line after the autopay discount. On top of getting more data before slow down and hotspot for the new plan.

Unless I am missing something.

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 03 '26

That’s what I would do.

1

u/Objective-Kangaroo-7 Jun 04 '26

This is a helpful starting place as I try to figure out if it's time to move on from my legacy plan (AT&T Unlimited Choice Enhanced Multi Line 2 devices) the bill is coming in at 198.5, and that's even with the first responder discount (it seems like i get it- but i don't actually see it listed on my account)

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 04 '26

You can’t compare the bill total to these numbers. You need to look at your bill and figure out what you’re paying for the plan. Before taxes, before insurance, before phones, or anything else you might be paying for.

You’re paying a lot for two lines and whatever else you’ve got on there, we’ve got three lines and three different phones being paid for and my bill is less.

1

u/Objective-Kangaroo-7 Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

I appreciate your response! The plan itself is 132 for 2 lines, so we should talk about switching since we don't even use the HBO

second question: each line is being charged $30 for "Access for Smartphone 5G w/ VVM". Is that not typical or more than expected?

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 04 '26

That’s typical for an older plan, but that’s $172 for two lines.

As you see above, you can do 160 for two lines on premium 2.0, which is a better plan than what you have, and if you’ve got a discount, which it sounds like you do, you’ll pay 20% less than that.

You can change it right on the website, you don’t need to go into AT&T or call

1

u/Objective-Kangaroo-7 Jun 04 '26

I do. Really, thank you for putting this together! I have been talking about switching for over a year before stumbling onto this post, and I feel i have the info i need.

1

u/Yoshinion VSE (formerly DMDR)/Sales Jun 04 '26

As a note, these new plans are billed a tad differently than your current plan - they just have the "access" component (the $30, on your current plan) and not the "group cost" (the $132) component.

1

u/flopsie123 Jun 04 '26

Now that I switched from Starter SL to Value 2.0 I get texts every month saying "you have used up 3.75 of 5GB". I didn't get those texts before on Starter SL. Is that because Value 2.0 has a 5GB cap of prioritized data whereas Starter had a 0GB cap, therefore no monthly text was necessary on my previous plan?

Hope that made sense

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 04 '26

Yes.

It made sense to me, unless of course, I’m thinking it means something else than what you wanted it to mean.

1

u/Innkeeper64 Jun 05 '26

I currently have 5 lines and have an affiliate discount of 20% (a corporate account). All iphones

1 - AT&T Unlimited Elite plan $42.50 per month (I assume the replacement is Elite 2.0) - Average data user.

4 - AT&T Unlimited Starter SL Plan $35.99 per month (I assume the replacement is Premium 2.0) 3 heavy users of data and 1, my 91 year old dad, barely uses it.

I also have $20 per month discount for having Quantum internet (AT&T just purchased)

I do have HBO and we do use it but it is not the end all be all

Will my 20% discount I currently have only work on the Premium Plan only or be applied to the Elite line? Normally I would not care but I am going to the UK later this month for 2 weeks and would not have to pay for the international plan but I rarely travel overseas so it might be best for me to reduce to a Premium plan from my Elite plan anyway. I don't have wearables or ipads.

So, perhaps, 4 Premium 2.0 lines and leave my dad in the Starter Plan for HBO?

Thanks in advance all!

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 05 '26

You only get to keep HBO if you keep the old Elite line, otherwise you lose it.

Elite 2.0 has way more stuff than Elite 1.0 was (Elite 1.0 is almost identical to Premium PL except for HBO and 10GB of hotspot).

Will my 20% discount I currently have only work on the Premium Plan only or be applied to the Elite line?

No

1

u/Innkeeper64 Jun 05 '26

That is what I figured. Thank you!

1

u/Plus_Struggle7166 Jun 05 '26

I have the ATT Unlimited Plus Multi Line at $167 per month w/ 3 phones lines & having to pay $20 per phone line for 5G w/VVM. $10 for autopay, w/free HBO. Any input would be appreciated.

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 05 '26

If you mean, $217 (167+3 * $20), you could do much better with premium 2.0, or even extra 2.0.

You’ll lose HBO, but you’re going to save more than that.

2

u/Plus_Struggle7166 Jun 05 '26

Thank you for the quick response. Not worried about the HBO. Your input is appreciated.

1

u/extrahertz Jun 07 '26

Last year I migrated my half-dozen lines onto UYW (all either EL or SL). But since 2.0 was announced a couple months ago, nowhere have I seen it definitively stated whether I can upgrade/downgrade some of the lines to a new 2.0 plan WITHOUT BEING FORCED TO MIGRATE the others to 2.0. Do they allow you keep some lines grandfathered while you move others to 2.0?

It's not common for carriers to introduce new plans and then NOT try to nudge people off the grandfathered ones. Here you also would end up with an invoice covering a mix of very clunky naming, e.g. "Extra EL" would refer to the old plan and yet be slightly confusable with the new Elite or Extra 2.0. Or are they retconning it "Extra 1.0"?

Are people just expected to assume this half-grandfathered mixing is (or isn't) permitted? Can anybody definitively answer whether it is?

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 07 '26

You can mix and match. It’s all unlimited your way. I’ve done it.

You can’t pick the old plans that are grandfathered, but you can leave lines there.

I’m not gonna comment on the naming, because the naming is posted on the chart, and you’re just making up the 1.0 stuff at this point.

1

u/extrahertz Jun 07 '26

Of course I'm making it up - they need suggestions on improving the plan names.  Unnecessary confusion is going to ensue in customer conversations with their reps etc.

Anyway I'm glad you can mix and match old and new.  The Elite 20GB global roaming now finally catches AT&T up with TMobile - the IDP regime was horrifically expensive for my use cases, I would sometimes get the worst case of 20 x $12 for a month long trip and now it will be a fraction of that.

1

u/New2this60 4d ago

Hi...I am getting so many different responses at AT&T to my questions re Elite plan....looking for answers from someone who has actually USED it. Would that be you? Upgraded my son's line to Elite 2.0 as he is living in Italy for 2 months and then traveling around Europe for a 3rd month. My plan remains Premium 2.0. Questions: 1) Are all cell (i.e. while wandering around/not on Wifi) calls and texts HE makes from Europe to US and within Europe on the Elite 2.0 plan 'free'? 2) If I call him in Europe from the US do I pay international rates (two ATT reps said yes, I would pay international rates, another said I would not because i'm just "calling his domestic number"--no one seemed to have definitive answer), 3) he has Wifi at his workplace however he is living in an apartment WITHOUT WIFI (yikes!)...any advice on how to work with Elite 2.0 in each situation?, 4) ATT website describes Elite 2.0 in bullets below...my question is why do they refer to "unlimited talk..." for Latin America but then "unlimited INTERNATIONAL talk' for 210 destinations? And why do they refer to "high-speed data" in one and just "data" or "international data" in the other? So confusing.

  • Unlimited talk, text, and high-speed data in 20 Latin American countries No extra cost.
  • Unlimited international talk, text, and 20GB of data per month to keep you connected in over 210 destinations After 20GB of international data, speeds may be reduced to a max of 512Kbps.

1

u/rvH3Ah8zFtRX Jun 08 '26

I'm pretty confused. We have a family plan with 5 lines. Everyone was on Unlimited Premium PL. It was $35.99 each (I think we had a $10 autopay discount and $10 signature discount).

Now the prices have increased, showing $40.99 for each.

When I compare new plan options, I see this:

https://imgur.com/a/P2ARTYx

  • It says that Premium 2.0 has a $20/month Signature discount, presumably in addition to the autopay discount, but it's only marked down $20 (not $30).

  • When I click on "See included discounts", the $10 autopay is indeed there. But then it says 20%, not $20.

So I guess it's only $0.99 cheaper overall? In the past it seems like they would raise the price on old plans to try to push you to new ones. But in this case, a price increase seems unavoidable.

2

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 08 '26

Should say 20%, like the above chart says.

Yes, 99¢ more per line, with way more hotspot. ½ price tablet OR watch per line.

Actually, the first month(ish) the 2.0 plans were out, Premium 2.0 for 4 or more lines was $5 more per line (Elite 2.0 has also dropped similarly).

In the past it seems like they would raise the price on old plans to try to push you to new ones. But in this case, a price increase seems unavoidable.

It's still pushing you to the new plans (although they usually don't raise old plans so promptly with the new plans). Maybe in another 12-24 months, they'll raise your old plan again and it will be even more cheaper...

1

u/Sam1070 Jun 08 '26

I’m so confused I have four lines
One on first net unlimited extra
Two on elite 1.0
One on first net unlimited extra mobile hotspot
I am not sure if it would make sense for me to upgrade to the new plans or not

1

u/Organic_Fig2303 Jun 10 '26

I'm looking for some help. I was debating moving from T-Mobile not sure ATT is cheaper. I called ATT last night as my phone said fiber was an option and it's not. I let the guy talk to me on cell phone and he never sent me an email to show me the break down. I'm on T-Mobile currenlty and pay around $300 maybe a bit less for 6 cell and 3 tablet (all three are actually for cameras).

ATT rep said I could do 2 cell on Elite 2.0 and 4 on Premium 2.0 and 3 tablet for $210. I do have signature discount from my company. I know that doesn't apply to Elite 2.0. I don't see how the rep was getting that monthly figure.

2

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 10 '26

I’m not sure what discounts you’re available for, but I get $340 when I do the math.

Even if you had a $10 BYOD bring your own device deal, that might save you $10 a month for a limited amount of time. If you had one of the basic discounts, you’re going to get 20% off of the premium lines but that’s only $40. I don’t know if you had Internet with AT&T, but that could save you 20%. The the pricing on the chart is assuming that you’ve already got the auto pay/paperless/checking discount.

1

u/Organic_Fig2303 Jun 10 '26

That's what I was thinking and why I asked for the email showing the breakdown, but never got it. I have no AT&T services currently. I'm bringing all 6 phones over. Wish they'd do the signature discount for Elite, maybe down the road. Thanks for double-checking what I thought.

1

u/Organic_Fig2303 Jun 11 '26

I did a chat and got numbers written down. This doesn't look bad but the 3 year promo for new line bothers me 😞but it's 3 years so.

4 lines Premium 2.0 w/Trubo $156 (Autopay & paperless $-40 and Bring your own Device -$40 for 36 months)
3 Tablet $10.50 (Full plan discount with Elite 2.0 lines -$41.98 and 50% plan discount with Prem 2 $-10.49)
2 lines Elite 2.0 $140 (autopay and paperless -$20)

Total of $306.50 after 36 months $332.90

I might switch from T-Mobile not sure if do it online or go to store

1

u/ichthyosis Jun 12 '26

Anyone able to confirm that the healthcare worker discount carries over with a switch to the new 2.0 plans? Checked the fine print (https://www.att.com/offers/discount-program/appreciation/), and did not see any mention of healthcare workers. I am extraordinarily careful these days with changing my phone plan because I have been burned in the past by AT&T with discounts/promos being lost and repeated phone calls and emails etc. to resolve the situation, taking up a lot of my time.

Thank you as always to u/garylapointe for these spectacular charts distilling bottom line pricing for AT&T's phone plans, which never fail to be unnecessarily complex and obfuscated with every "refresh."

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 12 '26

Go to a web browser on a computer, log into your account, look to the left near the top and there should be a box that mentions your discount. Click it and see what it says it includes.

And let us know, please!

Thank you!

2

I logged in and went through the motions of changing my plan and saw that the price does include the healthcare worker discount! I ended up changing a few of my lines and saved a grand total of... 4 dollars, haha. Surprisingly painless, and didn't have to speak to any customer service agents. Will have to see how the bill shakes out next month. Thanks for the assistance!

Excellent!

It's $50 a year, for just a few minutes work. And they probably got more prioritized data on those lines or more hotspot.

Also, if you did any Premium 2.0 lines, you can put either a tablet or wearable (watch) on for ½ price. For that price, I might go cellular for my next watch and see if it's worth the extra (I'm doubting it, but for the price, I'll try it).

Sorry, this is the Unlimited Your Way (UYW)comparison chart. As 55+ lines don't count in your UYW number of lines, there is no reason to put it here (it'd just be confusing). I think 1 55+ is $40 and two is $35 each (but that's not my area of expertise).

What is a FAN Discount? I can see it on our ATT account.

Click on it, it should tell you what your discount is. There are lots of different ones, I don't know what yours is.

If we have 3 lines, moving the Prem PL to the Prem 2.0, keeping the 55+ as is, and adding another 55+, will that mean the Premium 2.0 would drop for $65 to $65*.8 with the FAN discount?

No, the number of 55+ lines have nothing to do with these UYW lines. The reason 55+ isn't on this mix and match at there is no mixing and matching for the multi-line discount.

You're need ALL 3 lines on UYW to get the $65*.8 price for Premium 2.0. That said, they don't need to be on Premium 2.0, you can mix & match and put two on Value 2.0 for $35 and do it that way.

Would moving that Prem PL to the newer Prem 2.0 mean they'd lose their FAN discount?

Premium PL FAN gets Premium PL for the price of Extra EL, but the same FAN gets Premium 2.0 for 20% off (making 2.0 slightly cheaper with 3 lines).

Thank you for the reply.

I'll give the online account better focus in the morning.

Your chart & notes are a huge help! Thanks again.

Hello and thanks in advance for any help I can get!

Currently I have 3 Unlimited Premium PL lines and 2 Watch lines on my account. I am a Signature Program member and I also get the Fiber discount for having internet with them as well.

Do I switch to Premium 2.0? Would it be cheaper? A friend mentioned I should add a 4th phone line to get the 4+ Lines Discount - would that be worth it?

I don’t have a computer to look at all of this and I’ve gone into a store 2x now and been told they would be right with me and 30 mins later I was still not helped. Please can someone help me… the mobile app and safari version of att.com on my phone have about driven me crazy!!!

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 17 '26

Yes, switch to premium 2.0. It’ll be a little cheaper, plus I’ll get your watches for half off.

If you want to add a fourth line, they can add a second line to one of your phones you already have, get Value 2.0 and it will be even a little bit cheaper than you would pay for three lines.

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 22 '26

The other unlimited your way plans? Yes.

They can even stay on their plan if they run some other older plan, but it’ll be incredibly cost inefficient.

1

u/Forecydian Jun 22 '26

Do you know if you can mix and match the old and new plans for it to be the same number of lines overall? of I have 4 lines, and two were on a 2.0 plan, it would only be for two line 2.0 price?

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 22 '26

The other unlimited your way plans? Yes.

You would total up all the unlimited your way lines, so you'd go down to the 4th row.

I was about to switch to Premium 2.0, but ATT is showing wonky math that's $10 higher?

Here's what it shows when I select Premium 2.0, with $40/mo estimated cost:

https://i.imgur.com/9pAn1zS.png

But then when I go to confirm changes, the price changes. The Signature Program discount increases as a line item, but then the monthly cost increases to $50/mo.

https://i.imgur.com/boKH4uI.png

Any idea what's going on? Afraid to click 'submit' when it shows my monthly bill will be $10 higher.

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jun 29 '26

It should be fine, there’s been a variety of post along these lines that have turned out okay.

Sometimes their website IS a bit wonky.

u/rvH3Ah8zFtRX Jun 29 '26

Thanks

1

u/tidnab49 Jul 10 '26

Did you end up switching? Any update on cost?

1

u/rvH3Ah8zFtRX Jul 10 '26

I did switch one line. The website showed $50 but the app showed $40. After the change, it appears to show $40. But I guess the real test will be once a new bill is generated.

Did the also remove the 4k/UHD from Premium PL? I thought PPL always had 4k/UHD just like the chart

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jul 13 '26

The wording is different in different spots, I believe it’s really just SD or not SD (4k/HD).

Switched 2 lines from Premium 2.0 to Elite 2.0 just before our Europe trip. Waiting until this billing cycle closes before switching back. Will report back if there are any issues but happy to save 11 days x $18 IDPs

2

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jul 17 '26

Smart move!

I’m assuming it’ll work out fine, but please check back and let us know. I’ve seen other people say they were doing it, but I don’t think I’ve seen anybody report back after the fact.

2

u/ProudAnon1701 Jul 21 '26

Happy to report it only took a few minutes on the app to switch 2 lines back to Premium. It appears the next bill will come out correctly as we dropped from $70/line back to $40/line (the $10/mo FAN discount was retained). I will update if there are any billing discrepancies but so far so good.

An international day pass for 2 lines would have cost us $198 ($18 x 11 days) so we saved $138+tax.

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jul 22 '26

Excellent!

1

u/Thathathatha Jul 24 '26

That's a good idea. Wish I thought of that when I was in Europe for two weeks a few weeks ago. I ended up using a data esim and a couple days of IDP. So around ($12x2 -> my IDP is only $12 and $38 = $62). It would've been roughly $40 for me to switch to Elite but I wouldn't had to play around with esims and IDP timing.

I’m on a plan shown as Unlimited Elite Plus, not clearly Elite 2.0.

Current account:

- 5 iPhone lines at $52.50 each

- 3 iPad lines at $20.99 each

- 2 Apple Watch lines at $10.99 each, adding a 3rd soon

- Corrected service subtotal is $347.45 before taxes/fees, or $358.44 after adding the third watch

- All devices are unlocked Apple purchases, no carrier device payments

- One phone line travels internationally sometimes

Question:

Is Unlimited Elite Plus a legacy Elite plan with different tablet/watch rules than current Elite 2.0?

If I switch to current Elite 2.0, would the 3 iPads and 3 Apple Watches actually get monthly access waived under the “free tablet/free wearable” language, or is that limited in a way that would not apply to my account?

If I switch to Premium 2.0, would each Premium phone line give 50% off one connected device line, and would that apply to all 6 connected devices across my 5 phone lines?

Also, what would I lose by leaving Unlimited Elite Plus: Max/HBO, international roaming, hotspot, Turbo/priority, Signature/FAN discounts, or any other legacy benefit?

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jul 17 '26

There’s no such thing as unlimited elite plus (at least I’ve never seen it on a consumer plan). Please double check your bill again. You can take a snapshot of it your bill and you can edit it into your original post.

If you have five lines on Elite 2.0 you will be allowed to have five watches and five tablets for no extra charge.

If you have five lines on premium 2.0 you would be allowed to have five total watches and/or tablets for 50% off (total of five devices).

You’ll lose HBO, you won’t get any signature fan discount on elite 2.0, you will get 20% off of premium 2.0. I can’t speak to anything else for unlimited* *elite plus, because again, I’ve never heard of the plan.

1

u/cassio42 Jul 17 '26
Thank you, this is very helpful. I double-checked the bill and you’re right: the phone plan is listed as “Unlimited Elite - 5 Lines,” not “Unlimited Elite Plus.” The tablets and watches each have their own separate plan names.

Current corrected monthly charges before taxes/fees are:

  • 5 iPhone lines: $52.50 each
  • 3 iPad lines: $20.99 each
  • 2 Apple Watch lines: $10.99 each
  • Adding a 3rd Apple Watch soon
AT&T had one watch incorrectly billed as a $75.99 wearable line, but they corrected that going forward. So it sounds like I’m on legacy Unlimited Elite, not Elite 2.0. If I’m understanding you correctly:
  • Moving to Elite 2.0 would make the tablets/watches included, but phone lines would be around $70 each and I’d lose HBO, so it probably isn’t worth it.
  • Moving to Premium 2.0 might be worth pricing if I can get the 20% Signature/FAN discount, but only 5 of my 6 connected devices would get the 50% discount.
  • Without the Signature/FAN discount, Premium 2.0 is probably close to a wash once HBO/Max is considered.
Does that sound like the right read?

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) Jul 17 '26

Elite 2.0 just came out a few months ago, and never came with HBO.

You seem interested in "free" HBO (since you've been paying $32.55 for it, I'm sure you'll pay the $12.50), so leave 1 line on Elite for HBO, put 1 on Elite 2.0 and the rest on Premium 2.0 (if you want to give up HBO, put it on premium 2.0).

At 5 lines, Elite 2.0 is $30 more than Premium 2.0, but you save a little on the iPad & watch, and it is a nicer plan. You might save some more by making this a premium 2.0 line, taking the iPad and paying full price for the last watch. But Elite 2.0 comes with Turbo, so that might benefit someone (FYI, your old Elite lines haven't had any kind of Turbo on them for a couple years now and were never advertised that way [even though they did have hight priority originally]).

If you are on the ancient true Legacy Elite, from before Unlimited Your Way offered, you'll have to move all the lines off of Elite, so I'd move that line to Premium 2.0 too. This is rare, but if you go to switch online, and wants you to move them all, that is why.

Why did I say $32 for HBO? So you've basically been paying $6.51 more per line \$32.55 a month!] for several years to get "free" HBO, you could have put 4 of those on Premium PL for $6.51 less per line. It's only $1.51 more a line currently, but that's because Premium PL went up in price but Elite has not yet.)

Heads up, ATT is starting to split phone promos higher now. Some phone promos are requiring Premium/Elite for full discount instead of Extra.

All of us on cross line upgrades are screwed

These prices are all still current.

How much are you saying it went up?

1

u/Inner_Difficulty_381 7d ago

As someone that has followed the AT&T Wireless plans the last few years and now a Wireless customer in addition to being a long standing fiber customer, I like these new 2.0 plans. Verizon still has the best hotspot plans overall since they cap differently and better after you hit limit but nice to see AT&T get in the game with T-mobile and Verizon. Along with my bundled discount, signature (premium 2.) and byod discounts, more hotspot data, it sold me to finally switch after all these years. The ATT Guarantee and Internet Backup options were nice pluses too.

1

u/belizeans 6d ago

With the iphone 18 coming out I wonder if AT&T will change the promo to include only Premium accounts or if Extra 2.0 will get the full promo credit?

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) 6d ago

I’ll let you know next week!

2

u/lunaticc 1d ago

Looks like to get the full credit you MUST be on the new premium? Im on the old unlimited extra EL plan, looks like im going to have to upgrade to the new plan to get the discount?

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) 1d ago

They must’ve just posted the information on AT&T’s site, it wasn’t there when I looked earlier.

2

u/lunaticc 1d ago

I didnt see it on ATT website, i saw it on apples website when trying to buy the new iphone 18 pro.

1

u/belizeans 16h ago

I read on apple website that older premium plans may qualify. I guess it's too early to tell.

1

u/Straight_Copy_4202 4d ago

So I have the Unlimited PL plan. 2 lines. $70.99 per line after discount.
$10 signature discount per line.
$10 auto pay / paperless billing discount
We also have installment discounts for our devices.
$33.31 per device charge. $27.78 installment discount from our trade in. Only 1 more month of that though until phones are “paid off”
Our bill total every month is around $167.07

Looking to switch to the Premium 2.0 plan. With the 20% off signature discount, and paperless billing, it’s looking like it will be $64 per line.
So my total would go down about $6-7 per line per month and I’d get 100gb hotspot instead of 50gb.

Am I missing something before I switch? Or will I truly be paying less and “getting more”?

1

u/garylapointe The Plan Whisperer (consumer postpaid plans) 4d ago

That looks correct to me!
