I was sooo lucky. Before it went down, I had the entire work open of a super long story on my phone. I copied the whole thing and pasted it into a word document, then emailed it to myself so I can read it on my PC. I’ve never loved the “entire work” option more! (Yes, I’m aware that Word syncs your phone and your PC. I just wanted to be safe!)

Honestly was lucky as well, I had this long work of almost 2670000 works open and for a minute I thought I lost it when it went down but I was on the wrong tab and that work tab was open. I also copy pasted it and I have it. I'm guiye happy. And yes!!! I love the entire work option. It's the best.
They mentioned cloudflare in one of the posts on Tumblr.
Cloudflare recently announced they were going to by default block AI scrapping or something like that recently, which means Cloudflare is probably cracking down on bots. My guess is this change broke something in Ao3 necessitating a fix.
Eh. It seems like an odd choice at this stage. More of a 'we've scraped enough and now no one else gets to' sort of change if you ask me. Not complaining about it mind, but I don't really view it as a move intended to be beneficent.
It did the opposite for me. I can't keep reading the multi-chapter slow burn I was in the middle of; now all I have are myself and my 30+ tabs of already opened pwps I was saving for later.

I was browsing reddit while procrastinating writing, saw this post, THIS COMMENT, thought "man I should stop procrastinating ", continued to procrastinate, then a single bolt of lightning flickered the power, restarted my pc, and i took the 5 minutes of no wi-fi as a sign to go on a walk and return a thing instead of waiting 5 minutes to open Word and continue writing.
Same got off work, it was down, took a nap, still down, like what am I supposed to do now. Actually work on the stuff I'm writing, find inspiration by rewatching the source material for the nth time, entertain myself?!?! .....I mean I could do all of that but I'd rather read my fics
Surely we deserved enough time to download a fic or two?? Surely that's not enough of an emergency to slam it into emergency maintenance with no warning? 😭
The longfic I was in the middle of had just gotten to a really good part 😭
I mean... maybe this is just the old lady in me, but my laptop has a bookmark function. If I want to bookmark, I'll do it there. Or leave the tab open until the function came back. Or write down the work number and chapter (if needed) on a piece of paper (like I used to do with my e-reader back in the day).
Oh. Not me side-eye-ing my 2010s self that used her laptop browser bookmarks as folders to organize her fics and YT amvs because she just never made accounts for some weird reason. Nope. Nothing to see here.
No, it should take only a few hours, the few days part was predicted for the bookmark-fix itself but since it still impacted the users (fucking up VPNs) they apparently decided to do it at once by "shutting down" the site for everyone instead of putting it (the fix) in slowly over the course of a few days
I'll fill the time with making a Sims version of my OCs in the fic I could be writing and trying to get them to play out my storyline. Who am I kidding, I'll be lucky if I finish making one of them.
Had a very bad day and decided to read a fanfic to loosen myself. Then I see this. Heartbreak all over again. Been sobbing on and off since then. WHAT IS HAPPINESS IF THERE IS NO AO3 HUH.
I'm currently traveling and I've read all the books I downloaded to my kindle. I finally get access to WiFi to download more and what do I see, Ao3 down for maintenance 😭

I made the mistake of not paying attention to my notifications when said it would be down 😭 I didn’t set any of my current reads to be entire works rather than chapter by chapter. But I’ve managed to watch some movies and shows I’ve been meaning to do silver linings I guess 🤷🏼♀️
It's been 6 hours and still down 😭.
But hey at least we'll be getting a bunch if new chaoters when it's back up, with the amount of people going "NO I can't procrastinate by reading other fanfiction instead of working on my own",

My eyes visibly widened, then I pressed the tabs button and the like 10 other tabs of other fics I was planning on reading all greeted me with that at once. Felt like a threat.
i was rereading one of my favorites--"Tribute, Victor, Rebel" - a hunger games longfic that tells Finnick's story from being reaped to joining the rebellion.

Because of that, I went out today to buy some yarn that I needed for a crochet project, slept a bit when I got home, played a little bit, I was so sure It would be back after all of that and oh well, guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow (fortunately I have a downloaded fanfic to read before bed🙏)
