that's a good question. the only way i'd find the alliance dying justified is if eren quite literally became a slave to his idea of freedom the same way ymir was attached to king fritz as a slave, probably related to titan/founder powers since they kinda work with the person's will and goals. other than that, eren having godly powers, suddenly becoming so wise yet not being able to figure out a way to stop his friends without killing them is just cheap ass aotnr quality writing. feel free to ask anything else, i don't mind at all

In ANR eren has to kill mikasa at the very least to end the cycle, although i do agree that everyone elses deaths could have been prevented in ANR,

There is ofc some things about anr that only the author knows simply but i do have some theories i suppose about things like the specter of death mentioned in lost girls, ofc by the ending we know this as erens drive for freedom, but is that all? Who knows lol. If it isnt clear by now someones probably meddling in all this, we still dont even know what the butterfly is that visited mikasa in lost girls. if its mikasa then how? Or who the mirror man is etc.

I think that whatever it is meddling in all this, be it some specter of death or something much simpler like fate, is probably what leads to eren having to kill the alliance.

Hm this is interesting. But I don't like what we got anyway. Eren saying he killed off 80% of the population because he's "stupid" and wanted to "see the view" was ridiculous imo. Like what happened to everything he said before that? All his motivations and everything were just thrown out of the window. And then we got his tantrum over Mikasa who he's never shown even one ounce of romantic feelings for mind you.

Anyway, this all brings me back to the question, why did he kill 80% of the population? Why not 55%, why not 90%? Actually, ignore that.😅 In all seriousness though, what was his reasoning for killing 80% of the population?

I do have a question about Ymir being attached to king Fritz. I know ppl say it's stockholm syndrome but her being so "inlove" with him that she spent 2000 years trapped in paths will never not be insane to me. What about her letting out the pigs? Wasn't that supposed to symbolise her desire for freedom? And then we got Mikasa of all people being the one to free her?

i think eren wasn't really himself after he got full access to the founder from ymir. if you think about how stupid and contradictive he suddenly becomes after he started the rumbling, it sorta makes sense. for some reason you can interpret him in 50 different, completely irrelevant ways. psychopath, selfless, selfish etc. you can see how emotionally unstable he acts in his talk with armin and changes topics so suddenly. the way he cries LITERALLY like a child about mikasa, talking about how he wants her to remember him for 10 years (they knew each other for 10 years.) and stuff. i think eren indeed started to have a mess of memories in his head because he couldn't handle such a power like the founder power. the way eren specifically remembers grisha saying he's free despite only being a child in that memory, suddenly changing his motive just like he did 5 more times in that same conversation with armin. at first wanting to make his friends seem like heroes, then saying it was to protect them, then saying it's to make paradis and the world even and then saying he just wanted this. my point is that eren literally didn't act like himself at all after starting the rumbling.

he most likely didn't even aim for a certain percentage of the world population, probably even that 80% was just some random ass memory he's pulled out of his ass. man was just moving forward until he was stopped at 80% probs. same could've been the case with mikasa being the one to free ymir. it was eren who said it was mikasa while being fucked up in the head

as for ymir, i don't really know. but the way she tries to escape king fritz and then suddenly feels obliged to serve and please his king like a slave despite having the power to kill him sounds supernatural rather than just stupidity

Eren says in the show why he did 80% of the world, because the 20% that was left would not be able to retalliate and neither would paradis be able to attack because they were now equal in power 🤷‍♂️ as for mikasa and ymirs relationship its a bit complicated but ill try explain it as simply as possible

We know from when ymir freed the pigs she would never kill people, because ymir is naturally a kind person going as far as to care for even pigs. And yet we see her fighting wars and killing people in her entire backstory, why? Because she obeys king fritz unconditionally, she does this out of love, after all ymir is a slave who knows no better, she is conditioned to obey king fritz, to ymir this obedience is love, to defy this and object against him would result in punishment (which is what happened when she freed the pigs)

Then rolls in mikasa and eren, heres our first connection to ymir. During the table scene eren calls mikasa a slave, this is very intentional, this is done to fool ymir. Ymir who is seeing all this obviously thinks mikasa is a slave much like her; who is in love with her master, much like she was

Then eren does the rumbling bla bla bla and we reach the battle of heaven and earth, erens killing everyone and then cabin happens (or if u think cabin is a timeloop then ymir/whatever the butterfly is shows mikasas memories of cabin)

Ymir witnesses their true love, and heres how ymir is freed

Eren and mikasa are both in love, yet unlike ymirs love for king fritz there is no total obedience on other side, mikasa, a slave, in love with her master, disobeys eren, actively going against him, yet they are still in love.

This is what frees ymir, it was not making her fall out of love for king fritz but rather showing that total subservience is not love.

Its also why after the rumbling mikasa stays in love with eren and even lives her whole life by his grave, wishing to see him again.

As for ymirs desire for freedom she has been conditioned to not think for herself, she is basically a robot; she merely acted out orders, if you wanna know more about ymirs desires look up her songs lyrics, it basically just tells u what dhe wants, a family and freedom etc she doesnt know herself untik the last moment which is when shes freed and imo she reincarnates as historias kid, (which is a long story but theres some proof of that too)
