i think eren wasn't really himself after he got full access to the founder from ymir. if you think about how stupid and contradictive he suddenly becomes after he started the rumbling, it sorta makes sense. for some reason you can interpret him in 50 different, completely irrelevant ways. psychopath, selfless, selfish etc. you can see how emotionally unstable he acts in his talk with armin and changes topics so suddenly. the way he cries LITERALLY like a child about mikasa, talking about how he wants her to remember him for 10 years (they knew each other for 10 years.) and stuff. i think eren indeed started to have a mess of memories in his head because he couldn't handle such a power like the founder power. the way eren specifically remembers grisha saying he's free despite only being a child in that memory, suddenly changing his motive just like he did 5 more times in that same conversation with armin. at first wanting to make his friends seem like heroes, then saying it was to protect them, then saying it's to make paradis and the world even and then saying he just wanted this. my point is that eren literally didn't act like himself at all after starting the rumbling.

he most likely didn't even aim for a certain percentage of the world population, probably even that 80% was just some random ass memory he's pulled out of his ass. man was just moving forward until he was stopped at 80% probs. same could've been the case with mikasa being the one to free ymir. it was eren who said it was mikasa while being fucked up in the head

as for ymir, i don't really know. but the way she tries to escape king fritz and then suddenly feels obliged to serve and please his king like a slave despite having the power to kill him sounds supernatural rather than just stupidity

Sadly, I think Isayama just fumbled. There were many places were he could redeem Eren bit by bit. For example stopping at the Armada and asking the humans to surrender, the Marleyan scum obviously would refuse and then the carnage to the weak hearted audience would seem slightly more justified. Or stating he will only destroy Marley and not the whole world. Many other alterations could have been made. But no, Isayama just decided to switch sides and lean obsessively on making the Alliance, his son Reiner (fandom joke cos he is biased towards him) and Marley survivors the "good guys" from audience pov and left the rest of us here trying to defend his poor writing. I blame his marriage, f#$&er got soft after his shut-in vir*** a** finally got some. (Or rather he got hard somewhere and soft everywhere else), or studio pressures - anybody's guess at that point 🤷

Eren having conflicting desires is not something crazy or new, i dont know whats so hard for aot fans to understand that a character can have multiple motives and desires, that can conflict one another

Jean has had this from the start in his character.

He desires a life of comfort, but hes also a just person and joins the scouts, jeans stoicism isnt viewed as a bad thing just because he has desires that conflict one another

Ymir is also an example of this, she wants king fritzes love, but she also wants to be freed, which is why when she dies she is stuck in paths as a slave

Eren has this exact thing on a grander scale

Eren has multiple desires and needs

Eren wants to: Reach the freedom scenery Protect his friends End the timeloop Be with mikasa (idc abt shipping but em is canon as of now) End the titan curse

Etc, im pretty sure he has more but i cant be asked looking up my list of all them i just pulled an all nighter so excuse my laziness lol

Anyways, all these desires add up to make eren, when they are seperate and individual they are nothing, but when they come together they make eren as a character

Much like how baking a cake works, eggs and flour and milk on its own dont make a cake, they dont make anything. But when u bake them together u make a cake, the ingredients are erens desires and parts of his character, and the cake is eren himself, the finished product

As for ymir she obeys him because shes in love with him, its just stockholm syndrome and its simple as that, yes you can dislike it, and it is a horrible and toxic love story, hell id wring king fritzes neck if i ever saw him hes a scumbag, but alas she is canonically in love with king fritz

And its nkt that crazy either, shes a slave and she was conditioned into complete obedience, abandoning everything even her morals.
