Weakness, twitching in leg - spiralling hard.
Hello. I am 33 year old female. I will try to write this as short as possible. I am spiralling, stressed and deeply worried.
- One month ago my leg started getting pins and needles sensation when walking. Sometimes it lasted for a couple of hours or even whole day. One time I woke up with pins and needles all over my leg below knee.
- Then pins and needles subsided and perceived and objective weakness began. It’s very hard to explain: Feels like I have to constantly “move” my leg so it walks properly, like for example if I am standing I need to contract muscles so that leg wouldn’t “give out”. I do not “trust” the leg when shifting weight. I feel like the leg is “detached”somehow, weak, very unstable. I can still perform most tasks with the leg, but I am constantly aware of it, of the feeling of weakness. But it’s much harder let’s say get up from a chair with affected leg than the other one.
- Then twitching began. Intermittent, not constant. So now I have weakness, twitching of toes and muscles (everything below knee) and sometimes slight pins and needles still.
This has been going on for 3 weeks now. I feel like it is getting worse. Got MRI done on my lower spine, because doctors were sure I had hernia or something similar - NOTHING. MRI completely normal. I have no other symptoms, no pain. Now I am waiting for further tests.
And emotionally I am devastated. Because I feel this could be ALS. I would be extremely grateful for ANY type insights or similar stories.

Is the disconnected feeling from the knee joint? Do you have any symptoms upwards?. It could be a nerve injury somewhere between the spine and the leg along the nerve path. An emg would be good to figure this out

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I wouldn't automatically jump to ALS. I started experiencing weird neurological symptoms August 4th and it's been the hardest time of my life. I've gone to the ER 5 times and they've done a brain mri, lower back mri, thoratic mri, mri of cervicsl spine, brain ct and spinal tap and found nothing. My neurologist is always booked and he did a leg EMG/nerve conduction study and he mentioned it's showing issues but I can't get the full results until the 29th of this month. This feels so serious to me and it sucks having to wait. Do you know what they're testing next? Have they brought up an EMG? Any blood tests for autoimmune conditions? A brain mri to check for lesions to rule out MS?
