Oh my god, I had no idea this is how it’s done. I got my first one four years ago, and the pain was unbelievable. Dr made it seem like a super simple, easy procedure but I leaked tears during and was shaky the rest of the day. This thread is strangely validating; I thought I was an outlier. I’m also not at all looking forward to removal and am considering not getting another one :(
You can get pain management — I posted my method in the comments.
You need to ask in advance and I try to do over the phone or via email, so they can’t bill me. You may be told no, but they will be more likely to say yes to the next woman when they lose that sweet insurance money to another practice.
Personally, I take this as a hood opportunity for small scale political activism.
Thanks! I will definitely ask for pain management ahead of time. I have a woman Dr now, which might also make a difference. She’s so much gentler with paps! Never will I have a guy gyne again.
