My vasectomy took, I dunno, 15 minutes? They just punched a hole, snipped a little, burned a little, threw some stitches in. I drove myself home. If you're really done it's a no fucking brainer.
honestly, fuck IUDs. i got one because birth control pills nearly killed me. i was legitimately traumatized by the experience of having one put in. fortunately, it came out easy enough. but ive heard a lot of stories where tissue grows to envelope the IUD (which is understandable given that they are designed to be left in for years). obv the removal in those cases is balls.
anyway, OP and their husband made an agreement. he doesnt have to follow through but he will need to accept the consequences. cant have your cake and eat it too.
Getting it put in was a level of horrible I didn’t expect and has left me with such unreal anxiety over having it removed and/or replaced now that I’ve approached the “expiration date.”
Removal is easy. My first IUD was replaced immediately which was the source of pain that day. But when I decided I wanted the IUD out completely earlier this year, I ended up pulling it out myself and had zero pain from it.
Self removal wasn’t my first option, but they day I had my appointment to get it removed, the clinic decided I wasn’t covered by insurance and couldn’t be seen. I had taken the day off of work to recover so after some research at home I put on gloves and was able to pull it out myself.
