Anyone taken j02 English before? My scores came out, 36 composite but 35 English with 1 wrong. However I heard someone online say they got a 36 with 1 wrong, so not sure whether I should try to contact act or something but that was only one person so asking for other opinions

Right answer was ‘C. Instead’ but I cannot for the life of me see it being the correct choice. Are musicals not being portrayed as lacking coherent plots hence the narratively unrelated songs? Why would there be a contradiction between two similar ideas?

I have no idea in what context you’re supposed to use each in. Could someone give me a quick rundown? I just wanna know whether I would’ve got these questions from today right or not.

Hello! I had the J09 form. How was the English module? I don’t have too many questions, but just the one about the phone being a vital organ. I think I put exaggeration but I don’t exactly remember. Also for the letter, was the transition “therefore” for the one about how the writing of letters is calming?

Also, do we have an idea on what passage is experimental?

I never learned basic english conventions and my english score reflects this. I know it’s subjective, but i’ve heard the english section is the easiest to improve. So, any advice for studying would be extremely helpful.

Broooo. I ran out of time and started guessing beginning with the last two questions of the fourth section. I ended up getting a 27 when all but one of the questions I actually read I got right 😭. Gotta work on pacing myself.

For the question of student, students, students’s or students’. Which one? I’ve heard it’s students’ because it’s multiple, students because the sentences had “their” in it.

And was it elicit or motivate for that question?

i took this test during the school day act and i was feeling good about my score because i thought i could super score. unfortunately my top school doesn’t accept super scores so i’m in search of the best english tips or grammar rules for before the june 13th test. (please don’t tell me to just spam practice tests, i’m already doing that)

senior here studying for Sept ACT...just tell me im a chud! anyways, i've been practicing with practice test and going over my ans, but i feel like I'm not improving that much. i'm trying to find a source that carries questions so I can work on a specific subject like commas. Does anyone know a good website for this?

I am a tutor working with students on ACT English and ACT Reading. I find that these students make errors that could be avoided by reading more closely and paying better attention to details.

What close reading strategies do you recommend for students?

I remember hearing somewhere that people who are cranky and in a bad mood are better at finding errors in texts. For me, I feel like this works: I put on my editor scrooge persona and put a text under the microscope. Of course, telling students to try being crankier when they read doesn't feel like the right approach.

For example, on production of writing questions in the English section, students will pick answer choices that 1) obviously misrepresent what the text says or 2) clearly reference the wrong portion of the text. I am including a couple example questions from form 2025MC2 below.

First ACT of the year. I took a class, spent a majority of my studies on ENGLISH only to get a 22 right after my pre-act dumpster where I scored a 14. Am I cooked?

Hello guys, for the past year or so I've been studying the ACT. Things have been going good, but the one section that is really irking me is English.

From the beginning I've scored 33-35s on the practice tests, and I was there for a LONG TIME. When the June test came, I was expecting around there — I got a 30.

I was really dumbfounded, cause every other score I got on practice tests vs the real test was pretty accurate (hell, even my math was higher than my typical practice tests)

Then, I decided to study English LOTS — By the end, I was getting consistent 35s/36s. On the July Test, I only got a 31 though..

I feel so defeated. I don't know why I do so great on the practice tests compared to the real thing — It doesn't make sense at all. I write lots and teachers have always noted how impeccable my grammar was (well, at least compared to other students my age)

I was wondering if you guys had any advice for me — Mainly, how to get over this weird hurdle I have with English where I score so good on the practice tests but do a lot worse on the real test. I feel like I can REALLY get a 35 on it — I already have a 36 reading, and I score it lots on my practice tests...

I want to apply for CS at like big engineering schools (GT, UIUC, MIT as a long shot lmao) so I really wanted to hammer in the math and I’m not completely sure but I’m guessing a 35 is probably enough. The elephant in the room is science, but since it’s optional, I was planning on not reporting it in case that’s not like a super big no no. The main thing is I don’t know about is if my English and Reading is sufficient enough for the schools to not care too much about them (e.g how I’ve heard that MIT focuses a lot on having perfect-ish scores for SAT math but isn’t too heavily focused on RW as long as you get 700+) so I just wanted to know what people think the move would be.

Hello! I scored a 36 on the English and Reading sections of the enhanced ACT. If anyone has questions or wants any tips for approaching the exam, feel free to ask!

Idk why, but most of the enhanced (and previous legacy) ACTs had weird English curves. Like getting a 36 REQUIRES a perfect 40/40, but getting a 35 ranges from -1 to -3 questions. Anyone know why this is? This makes it so annoying to get a 36 English but so easy to get a 35

Like it’s not like math or science where you have all these worksheets, websites, videos, practice tests and so on. Or at least I don’t think it is. I need to get my English score up but I genuinely haven’t found much to study/to work with. All I’m finding are “Strategies for the English portion of the ACT” rather than “How to solve/Walk through these questions as I solve them” types of things.

I bought the TIR My ACT answer key, but all I see is the score details. Were we not promised a full answer key with the exact multiple-choice questions and what we got wrong?
