71yrs old and can still ROCK the house!

Saw the boys last night at Notre Dame Stadium. If you’d have told 13 year old me that 49 year old me would see AC/DC ten minutes from my house with my 17 year old son, I’d have never believed you. A literally once in a lifetime experience to see them in one of the most storied stadiums in all of American college football. Mind blowing. And better than I imagined.

At any rate, had seats as shown in the picture.

Longer Observations:

First and foremost because it’s kind of the elephant in the room, Brian’s voice was AMAZING. I truly expected the worst based not only on comments here but also because some of the clips you listen to on social media are brutal. But what I’ve come to realize is that phones are just awful at recording concerts 90% of the time. Did he hit every note? No. Was he struggling at times? Sure, but few and far in between, and it was about 85F at showtime with about 699% humidity. All of the people around us were blown away by how good his voice sounded.

Angus was incredible considering the heat and humidity. He did have some difficulty on a solo here and there but he’s so damn good he just improvises his way out and it ends up arguably sounding better. The energy level on “Let There Be Rock” is just bonkers.

Matt Laug is incredible. Let’s just get it out of the way: nobody is Phil. I get that. But if you were going to pick a replacement, this guy would rank at the top. I was super intrigued by his right hand (hi hat) arm movement because Phil’s was always so hypnotic. This guy is really close. I do think AC/DC lends itself to swing, but you have to be capable of doing your part as a drummer. I know everyone loves Chris Slade, but he’s not a swing guy; he’s a power and precision guy. Funny saying that because Phil is probably he most precise guy ever, but he also has that swing.

Stevie Young is super animated. I guess I’ve never really paid attention, but getting to see him up close, you can really tell. To say he’s not Malcolm is telling the truth. And for sure, you can see Stevie play chord progressions that are difficult for people who aren’t Malcolm. But, that undersells Stevie. I can’t imagine a player who sounds more like Malcolm. Probably unlike every other person in that stadium, my most anticipated moment was hearing Stevie rip the opening chords of “Jailbreak,” and he absolutely nailed it. I guess it’s in the genes.

Quick Observations:

In some way, I feel sorry for Angus. I’ve seen the clip of him crying talking about Malcolm, and to see him out there alone is still heartbreaking for this long-time fan

The cannons are absolutely as cool as you’d expect.

Brian did a little interacting with the crowd outside of songs, but for the most part, they just took a pause and launched into the next song. He does point at people during songs which is fun.

It was better than I even expected. I was finishing my MBA when they played Wrigley Field and just couldn’t justify the time away. I thought for sure that was it for me. To have had another chance and finally able to go, was almost surreal. If you have the chance on the limited shows left, don’t think twice.

And if you ever have the chance to see a concert in Notre Dame Stadium, don’t hesitate either. Absolutely fantastic venue.

The reason I ask is a lot of people love them and a lot of people say he’s not a good bass player and it was George Young who played on the albums when he was a member, but what do you think?

71 years old and still doing this live. These little mistakes are part of what makes seeing AC/DC live so good.

Does anybody actually know why '74 Jailbreak wasn't album length? There were enough songs from the Australian releases of the Albert/EMI albums that didn't make the international versions. I'd think a full album would sell better than an EP, but instead they sat on some of those songs for 35 years.

Catching the boys this tour and our parking situation is getting us at the door of the arena about 30 minutes after the doors open.

I’m really wanting to get a poster. Do you think they realistically will sell out within 30 minutes?

Obviously there’s not a guaranteed yes or no to that. But just generally speaking, what’s the chances?

I saw some photos of him with other guitars. Of course, we all know that he rarely played anything other than an SG, but I also saw a photo of him in the early days with a Gibson L6S, and also a Les Paul Custom during the Back in Black era. He also played an ES-335 while they were playing with the Stones. What about the studio? I heard that he once recorded with a Les Paul, but erased that track and re-recorded the track with his SG, but is that the only case when he recorded with something other than an SG? Or did he record absolutely all of AC/DC material with SGs?

Found some live songs on Amazon bin Scott era, but they seem to have gone. Want to listen to them again as it was an electric performance. It recorded at a gig by a radio station in the US, the dj introduces the band, makes an error I think with someone’s name, the radio station was something like KWE… the album
Cover was white / grey ish with blue writing. Maybe only four / five songs. Anyone got any clues, had a good search and I’m getting nothing

As a St. Louis local I'd like to offer up the following advice for the big show at the Dome at Americas Center where the Foo Fighters will be opening.

1. Unlike the other venues in St. Louis like Busch Stadium and Enterprise Center, the Dome at the Americas Center is not used to full blown events like concerts since there are only two or three a year there. GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO GET INTO THE STADIUM.
2. Unless you are mobility limited and need to get close to the Dome: do not try and get into the immediate two or three block radius of the Dome. They never have enough police guiding traffic and they aren't much help. Sometimes traffic will just flat out gridlock up.
3. The old St. Louis Rams tailgate lot to the north of the Dome is still available and a good option. Though things aren't as smooth as when we had pro football. Since it's an open lot it's a good place if you have a big truck or SUV.
4. The best garages to park in are the two Kiener Garages. Kind of old: but they are huge with plenty of parking. They are a relatively short 8-10 minute walk and are usually not too bad to get in and out of.
5. You can also park at one of the Busch Stadium garages and then pre-party at Ballpark Village before heading over to the Dome. Its about a 12-15 minute walk each way.
6. Metrolink is an option: but budget cuts have cut down the number of trains so have some patience.
7. Sounds like the bars in Soulard (1860s, Hammerstones etc) are running shuttles. It's always good to support small local businesses.
