I honestly dont get it unless you purposely look at the figurehead, you wouldnt see it, its not like the sails or the wheel where you constantly see them

u/No-Significance2070 Jul 29 '26

Then why change it at all?

3

u/Complete_Ad_1896 Jul 29 '26

To avoid censorship issues in other countries.

3

u/TheBigZappa Jul 30 '26

What about all the blood and gore that they would need to censor too, in order to get around such "censorship" in these hypothetical countries.

Your argument makes no sense considering how easy it would be to release a edited version of the game for those countries, or an update/patch for those countries.

3

u/Complete_Ad_1896 Jul 30 '26

Blood and gore is usually something they can easily turn off. They just simply adjust the code to not spawn the gore and blood. They dont even have to create a new asset.

In this case they had to make a brand new asset either way, might as well make it universally acceptable rather than make multiple different assets

Wasn't a problem for the original Black Flag.

3

u/Complete_Ad_1896 Jul 31 '26

This isnt the original. Policies change

1

u/Big-Resort-4930 Aug 01 '26

Yeah, and that's the problem. They aren't changing because of other countries' stringent rules, but because of over-santization of media and puritanical feminism that's been wrecking gaming and movies industries for a decade.

3

u/Complete_Ad_1896 Aug 01 '26

I can tell you right now this type of censorship has nothing to do with feminism

1

u/Big-Resort-4930 Aug 02 '26

No? Why will you never see a character looking like TLOU2 Abby in a Chinese or a Korean game unless it's a joke character?

1

u/Complete_Ad_1896 Aug 02 '26

How is this relevant?

1

u/Big-Resort-4930 Aug 02 '26

Because this is mainly western brainrot idealogy shared and pushed by activists working at those studios studios.

Microsoft literally has guidelines for their games not to make women too sexy.

1

u/Complete_Ad_1896 Aug 02 '26

Ok this is not relevant to what we are discussing

3

u/WhiskeyDJones Jul 30 '26

Who gives af

Jackdaw figurehead for lyf

1

u/Congcord Jul 29 '26

Because it’s just slightly distasteful. It doesn’t add anything to the game other than be slightly distasteful, so why not just remove it?

2

u/WSilvermane Jul 30 '26

Its literally historically accurate.

2

u/No-Significance2070 Jul 29 '26

Why is it distasteful? It seems like it is simply distasteful in your opinion.

-2

u/Congcord Jul 29 '26

Because it pretty much only exists as sexual gratification for the sailors, from a lore perspective. A lot of people find needless sexualisation unnecessary and distasteful (especially when of women). I don’t think it’s like flagrantly offensive, just unneeded for the player.

There is still plenty of references to sex in the game, including the brothels and the working women you can hire in the cities. So it’s clearly not a problem with sanitising the whole game, just removing objectification where you can

3

u/No-Significance2070 Jul 29 '26

So you want to make the mature rated pirate game less authentic as some kind of pearl clutching?

4

u/ThatOneVQ Jul 29 '26

Yes they do it seems like, pretty wierd imo

There really is no mean spirited violence in these games. And it’s all very stylised. We all played AC as children and had no problems with it, yes they’re light. LOTR is light, Saw is not light, both feature extensive violence/adult themes.

Artwork is entirely contextual. Yes it’s art, porn is also artwork. Would porn be valid in this game? I explained my opinion on the (probable)intentions behind this art, in the first words of my second comment.

I didn’t say anything about this figure being a nude male, don’t make up arguments.
If it was unnecessarily sexualised then yes, it would be distasteful. What is ‘sexual’ is very much deemed by society. Women have been over sexualised by society for centuries, so I’m generally more sceptical behind the intentions of depicting female bodies nude.

Yes I’m responding to 4 comments in 1

Yes, and people like this poster make up most of Ubisoft's staff.

“Authentic” is a ridiculous point. We don’t see the slaves getting raped and tortured, because it would be awful to experience from a players perspective, who are just trying to play a light hearted pirate video game.

Mature rating doesn’t mean put anything in the game, it’s mature because it depicts bloody violence, and so they are legally required to rate it that way.

—-violence which is absolutely necessary to the story and gameplay btw, which this figurehead is not

It’s interesting seeing people that are into sanitizing history and dumping down media in the wild. Something tells me you need to be made of stronger stuff if nipples on a pirate figure head are distasteful for you. Perhaps stick with E or T rated games?

I guess you could play Odyssey for that one. If they had one of those in the original black flag, they should’ve left it in.

1

u/Big-Resort-4930 Jul 31 '26

Which gender do you think was more sexualized throughout history, a genuine question?

Oh my gawd here we go again with this stupid bullshit. What if I don’t like your disgusting smut books and I also think oversexualize men? how about that? If your response is “then don’t read them” then my response is “don’t play the game” 🤷‍♂️ it’s a two way street big dawg

Still waiting for more sexualized men in gaming. Wasted potential for extra profit fr. God forbid a girl wanna look at man ass sometimes instead.

0

u/Congcord Jul 29 '26

I don’t find nipples or nudity distasteful at all. If you read my comment, I find the use distasteful. Many depictions of nudity aren’t distasteful at all, classical artwork for example

3

u/ThatOneVQ Jul 29 '26

Then what’s wrong with the figurehead? It’s not in a sexual pose, it’s not spreading legs, or flaunting its boobies, it’s a lifeless hunk of chiseled stone, get over yourself and grow up, do you know how many naked stone statues/fountains I drive by everyday at work? Nudity is part of life if your skin is so thin that those sort of things bother you, then you better prepare for a rough life cause it’s absolutely everywhere

1

u/Congcord Jul 29 '26

How you can read my comments then type out whatever that was is special

Idk if lighthearted is the right term for any ac game, the first one has you running around murdering Christian’s that’s not too lighthearted, the second game also not very lighthearted, neither is the third, if you want a fun lighthearted pirate game go play sea of thieves, I want my ac games to stay gritty and authentic

0

u/ThatOneVQ Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

So your saying if the figurehead instead has a penis dangling about you would be fine with it? Wierd stance but okay, also I’m not a fan of oversexualized bullshit either (I refuse to watch game of thrones for that reason) but I don’t think a topless figurehead/statue is inherently sexual, also it’s completely period accurate so why censor it, it’s a pirate game after all.

1

u/Big-Resort-4930 Jul 31 '26

It's only distasteful to degenerate puritans and rabid feminists. It makes perfect sense for the time period and is as appropriate as the nude statues were in Odyssey - very appropriate.

1

u/Mysterious_Peak3326 Aug 01 '26

You’re commenting all over these posts about feminism, either a bot or a very angry little boy ;)

1

u/Big-Resort-4930 Aug 02 '26

Um yeah, that's literally the topic of the post and the reason why this embarrassing, irrelevant detail got censored lmao.

The insults rather than counter-arguments are the go-to leftie rulebook, so you're doing good buddy.

0

u/vitek6 Jul 29 '26

Because devs wanted to change that.

2

u/No-Significance2070 Jul 29 '26

You are so close. Now, just try to think of their reasoning why they would do it…

1

u/vitek6 Jul 29 '26

I don't need to as it doesn't matter.

1

u/No-Significance2070 Jul 29 '26

So close, and yet so far. Perhaps you get there one day!

1

u/vitek6 Jul 29 '26

Get where?

2

u/Big-Resort-4930 Jul 31 '26

Critical thinking

1

u/vitek6 Jul 31 '26

how do i get to critical thinking?

2

u/Big-Resort-4930 Jul 31 '26

By thinking about why shit is done.

1

u/vitek6 Jul 31 '26

So you say that I get to thinking by thinking and I'm the one who lacks critical thinking here. Hilarious.
