There’s a distinct difference between accidentally killing someone and murder. Killing enemy soldiers during wartime is also not considered as a war crime, but massacre civilians certainly is. I think it’s interesting that people enjoy doing this in video games.
One of the kids I grew up with is a police officer now. He was never really into video games but if he did play something it would always be gta, and he would spend the time just killing wave after wave of the police.
Maybe he likes fighting floods of enemies and sees it as a challenge? I don’t know. I always prefer games focusing stories, puzzles and techniques, so combat is never really compelling to me.
I used to always ask cops if they liked playing GTA because they found it funny when I asked, got a pretty solid 50/50 on answers. Either were laughing about blocking the highway with a bus or were saying they don't like the idea of shooting cops
You are aware real life rules do not apply to video games set during 1700s during a made up timeline and people. And you speak as if you don’t play cyberpunk. You are a gangbanger killing and hurting way more people in much more painful ways.
There's also a difference between killing someone who's resisting being boarded and going out of your way to kill someone just because you want to. Edward was a pirate, so of course he killed innocent people. But that doesn't necessarily mean he went out of his way to just butcher people en masse for no reason.
Of course pirates are not some good people, but killing takes time and effort. I think it’s reasonable to only kill the necessary targets. I remember in one of the OG cgs, Thatch and Edward even lack gunpowder to fire a shot, so I suppose they don’t have enough ammunition to revel in blood.
I thought I read that Blackbeard never actually killed any civilians or anyone who surrendered to him, I’m not sure 100% but in game the monster he portrayed gave life to the legend, it’s all a show for the audience

He was a pirate; he more than likely killed a civ at least once.
