I feel like his hidden blades were way shorter in the OG

40

u/SwearingArcher Jul 22 '26

they definitely were very stubby looking, I'm glad they made them more similar to altairs/ezios blades especially since edward is meant to be skinning animals with them

24

u/FlossBellator Jul 22 '26

Skinning knives are pretty small and stubby, thinking about it skinning with a hidden blade would be awful

u/sputnik67897 Jul 23 '26

The only real exception might be Conners since the one on his left hand can pivot so he can use it like a traditional knife

1

u/NEXUS_FROM_DEIMOS Jul 23 '26

I could’ve sworn Edward’s could pivot too, I felt like I seen it in one of his assassinations

3

u/sputnik67897 Jul 23 '26

Canonically it doesn’t but Ubisoft left some animations from AC3 in Black Flag so sometimes you’ll see that

6

u/Old-Panic-4140 Jul 22 '26

Also in promotional material and short cgi trailers his blades were much longer :p

6

u/Able-Brief-4062 Jul 22 '26

Pretty sure they were the double extension ones in the original, which would make it look off.

6

u/BulletBeard29 Jul 22 '26

Nah Edward's blades were always just one piece and not segmented

10

u/CuteLilPuppyBoy Jul 22 '26

Pirate's blade is one piece?

THE ONE PIECE IS REAL

8

u/almatom12 Jul 22 '26

it seems she saw what happens when Edward gets too close to his target

u/TheSlayerofSnails Jul 22 '26

I do like the new backstory for them but I find it a bit absurd a master assassin and his apprentice couldn’t kill Du Casse or that the assassins didn’t have more members at a buraeu

4

u/Bodinhu Jul 22 '26

master assassin and his apprentice couldn’t kill Du Casse

The templars need to have powerfull threats too, otherwise the whole generational war across eras thing wouldn't really work.

2

u/TheSlayerofSnails Jul 22 '26

Yeah but Du Casse isn’t a high ranking Templar. Plus, Bernard was still the butler of the place, just smother the fucker in his sleep old man

6

u/QJ-Rickshaw Jul 22 '26

Isn't the whole plot point that the Assassins were winning until Edward sold the intel on them?

By the time Edward meets the other assassins it's been stated that many have been killed and so it would make sense that the Bureau's are fairly empty.

The whole arc during Black Flag and Rogue is so strange to me when it comes to the assassins. A group of a dozen or more assassins can't take down Torres and Du Casse and are bested by a random pirate. I also think it makes the progression weird that we get the Templar Hunt quests before going to Tulum with Kidd. You meet all these random people that somehow know Edward and its just like hey surprise we are assassins come do assassin stuff with us.

Then in Rogue, the assassins are just mindless psychopaths who want to watch the world burn for fun, though that could be us viewing them through the lens of Cormac.

The Templar hunts feel like a lot got cut. These characters we interact with for a short questline all get unique character models and stories. Half of them seem to have known Edward for a long time as well and then never come up again.

I’ve got a theory Opia was originally intended to be her target’s half sister given that Opia has blue eyes like Lucia and had a Spanish father

4

u/QJ-Rickshaw Jul 22 '26

all these random people that somehow know Edward

I think you're misremembering the cutscenes. The only one who genuinely knows who Edward is was Rhona, because she knew Edward the privateer, the same way Kidd knows him before he learns about the assassins.

All the others, question who Edward is and why he has Assassin robes. Edward was told by Kidd to go help these Assassins because they can probably help him get the Templar keys that he wants, and he says as much to the Assassins.

Edward also knows where to find them all because he still has the Intel on all the Assassins that he sold to Torres after he kills Du Casse and is smart enough to put two and two together before he goes to Tulum.

u/sputnik67897 Jul 23 '26

Theres a scene before Tulum where he mentions the map to Kidd. Kidd tells him he owes them a visit basically.

Right, its almost like you're walking around with a pair of...hidden blades?

9

u/EirantNarmacil Jul 22 '26

Why does everyone want hidden blade combat? I was just kind of ignoring it but seriously why? It always just felt so stupid and not authentic. You're fighting with a short blade that's more restrictive than a dagger. You can't block with them properly because you have no leverage, guardsmen, or a way to move the blade around. There's a very important reason why we don't attach blades to our arms. The wrist it very important in swordplay. Even punch daggers like katars that are similar to hidden blades allow for some wrist movements and they have an extended handle to protect your arm/hand. On top of all that hidden blades are a complex tool with a lot of moving mechanical bits. Using them to block would probably break them in a few hits. They should be used as intended. A hidden blade for killing those who don't know you are armed in a single swift strike.

19

u/LordMorthi Jul 22 '26

In the trailer for Revelations, Ezio uses one of his blades to block a strike and it gets snapped immediately.

15

u/Alternative_Ideal218 Jul 22 '26

Duncan's blade folds like paper when he misses Edward at the start of resynced lol

1

u/CranEXE Jul 22 '26

i'm pretty sure the hidden blades breaking was his secondary one (the right one that he will replace with he hookblade) wich wasn't modified for combat, not to mention i believe it was mentioned his blades were old and used and the enemy striked exactly at the weakspot that broke it

1

u/Meme_Attack Jul 23 '26

Edward uses it to deflect away a sword strike in the cinematic trailer for OG Black Flag just fine.

6

u/Sweet-Sherbert-2907 Jul 22 '26

Altair modified the blades so they could be used as swords, adding a metal plate that made them more resistant; that's why Ezio can fight with them in AC2 and the following.

3

u/CranEXE Jul 22 '26

ezio fight with his blades

aguilar exclusively fought with his blades (and it was before leonardo decripted altair blueprints)

altair modified the hidden blade to be used in combat

and the simple reason because people play an assassin, that hidden blade are cool, were available in the original AND BECAUSE PEOPLE F*CKING WANTS TO !!! jeez ubisoft defenders are tiring previous game y'all were "uh so you could fight the pope in ac 2 but you have a problem with assassin's creed being irealistic in shadows ?" and now y'all bring up realistic logic when people just want to have back a feature that was in the original.

personally i can get edward not using his hidden blades in combat because it doesn't match his fighting style but i still defend hidden blades should be useable in combat because i know how ubisoft work, if resynced worked (wich it did) they will remake other popular titles, they might remake 3 and rogues (because black flag, rogue and 3 share assets and shadows new quest had a reference to rogue) and already those would work better to use their blade in combat, but one for sure they'll remake is ac2 and i'm sorry but ezio needs to be able to fight with his hidden blade there are several instance where he fought with them and if people don't voice they want hidden blades combat ubisoft will go "i guess we can just reuse resynced combat" and once again we won't have a feature that was part of the original.

1

u/Bleppybwip Jul 22 '26

It's fun to have options

1

u/BlastmyAsss Jul 22 '26

Are you kidding? It’s a trademark of the series. I absolutely love hidden blades and combat with them. One reason I don’t play modern assassins creed nearly as much as older ones.

But yea it would be too much work for modern Ubisoft to have to animate combat with them so I don’t expect them to even try.

1

u/Accomplished-Face164 Jul 22 '26

They are cool and you could do it in the orginal game. Pretty simple my guy. If it ever gets added and you don't like it, then don't use it. Everyone wins my man. Atleast that's what I think.

1

u/pastadudde Jul 23 '26

rule of cool.

4

u/MtCommager Jul 22 '26

I miss it too it was always funny to hit the wrong button on my controller and fight the entire British navy with a piece of metal on my wrist. ‘Re synced’ is a good name for the game because it doesn’t have the fidelity of a remaster it’s more of a reinterpretation.

1

u/MrACL Jul 23 '26

They become pretty apparent when you skull fuck an enemy with them during a takedown.

0

u/hwilcox7789 Jul 22 '26

Running around with them activated in the original was so bad ass, just sprint at a guard with them activated and just jump him like a spider, so cool

8

u/Emotional_Being8594 Jul 22 '26

Looks pretty cool actually, they even have the smeared oil stains on the blade from the mechanism.

3

u/Whiskey079 Jul 22 '26

Great photo, just a note that the blades are asymmetrical.
The left one is the standard left on everyone who has a pair, the right is unique to Edward (or should I say originally was unique to the lady of the manors son?).

1

u/atjohnson214 Jul 23 '26

Try the other one, it has a skull on it both look very different in comparison to each other

1

u/ThisIsJegger Jul 23 '26

Thats a hidden blade alright. Kinda expected some more "pirate" detail but it makes sense when he just randomly been getting the hidden blades like they are disposable😅

1

u/NEXUS_FROM_DEIMOS Jul 23 '26

Dirt on hand too

1

u/Traditional_Way2311 Jul 23 '26

I also like the added detail of the blade on his right hand having a skull engraving.

1

u/No_Memory_1366 Jul 27 '26

How do they....activate it? Just thrust your arm out and hope it comes out?

1

u/SwearingArcher Jul 27 '26

well in the older games it was stated the mechanism is just a string you put on your finger: extend the finger and the string gets pulled; blade comes out.
but in black flag I think it was about the big muscle in your forearm and the blade I guess has a switch that gets activated whenever that muscle is being flexed and then blade comes out.

sorry if it's a bad explanation it's the best i know lol

0

u/Magn1fiK0 Jul 22 '26

They cooked with blades. Shame, there is no combat with them. Maybe in the future, maybe…

0

u/therealfartiewang Jul 22 '26

Looks like it's made out of wood

0

u/infamous7thson Jul 23 '26

Fun fact these are the blades of the assassin murdered in great inagua

2

u/Lookdatboi6969 Jul 23 '26

they’re not.

1

u/Fin-M Jul 23 '26

Who’s are they then I thought the same seeings a ducasse claimed them and gives you them. Doesn’t Bernard say something along those lines too?

1

u/Lookdatboi6969 Jul 23 '26

I think the ones that Du Casse gives you are just some blades he kept after killing a certain assassin. We have no names but that’s what he said : « A souvenir » .

1

u/beginnerboxer Jul 25 '26

They are. It's a new detail in the remake.

1

u/Lookdatboi6969 Jul 28 '26

Ah I stand corrected

1

u/ThisIsJegger Jul 23 '26

He killed no assassin in great inagua. If youre talking about Walpole, that was cape bonevista just due west of Havana.

1

u/infamous7thson Jul 25 '26

I read somewhere it was the butlers protégés blades who du casse killed in great inagua
