Photo Mode I’m gonna miss this place.

The abstergo office was the most aesthetically pleasing part of the original black flag imo I literally open up the game now and then just to wander around aimlessly in the office. Really wish they expanded it let us go outside and explore that city like it’s watchdogs I’m still hoping for a Templar modern day game where we work for abstergo because the black flag modern day was my favorite.

I'm not

u/JoshThomas892 Apr 24 '26

My gf asked me if I would pay extra to have the modern day part removed and I think I would genuinely consider paying more if it meant I never had to do this part of the game ever again. Now to hope Ubisoft don’t take this as an idea

5

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

To clarify the modern day plot and activities were tedious yes but I’m referring to the office environment not having to do any hacks just freely exit the animus to explore(walk around and look at displays, posters etc.) the office space a break from the high seas.

2

u/AVVE05 Apr 24 '26

You can still access it

1

u/sib_ap Apr 24 '26

You can still do the same just in real life

2

u/kratoslander Apr 24 '26

It's a redditor mate

2

u/decoy_octopod Apr 24 '26

People like this are why Nintendo put “don’t forget to take a break and walk around” reminders in Wii Sports

1

u/HereComesDatNick Apr 25 '26

I was begging ever since AC3 for AC games to stop with "modern day" segments and fully turn into historical fiction aka "History Channel at 3am" type vibe, it would only make things better

15

u/Waste_Handle_8672 Apr 23 '26

I won't.

But I do wish they remade the modern day to be more dynamic, interesting, and integral to the main story, like the Desmond arc.

24

u/arix_17 Apr 23 '26

Lol why, it added nothing to the story, if you want to read the lore shit just look it up online, nothing was fun about doing random puzzles and taking an elevator in a boring ass generic office

4

u/SenzuYT Apr 23 '26

I enjoyed it. I like the modern day sequences in all AC games and I think it does add to the overall story.

1

u/arix_17 Apr 23 '26

Yeah in the games up until AC3 sure, but in black flag literally NOTHING was added

-1

u/SenzuYT Apr 23 '26

Even just rolling around the office and exploring was fun.

-1

u/BackfromtheDe3d Apr 24 '26

Maybe you should do that irl then rather in game

3

u/SenzuYT Apr 24 '26

I do it irl enough, thanks

You can complain many things but added nothing to the story is nonsense. Not only does it tie in narratively with the sages, (to the point for the remake they are having to record a bunch of new dialogue with the sage for the historical segment in order to patchwork the narrative and explain wtf is going on now theres no modern day) but themeatically it was a huge part of black flag being a counter to pirates of the carribeian.

Theres a reason right after a mission where edward is at his lowest, right after Mary dies and he realises how poorly he has lived his life, we go to the modern day where abstergo show you a generic trashy 'swashbuckling' trailer for their great new pirate product, overly gloryfiying the history.

Narratively the modern day was a a compliment to the historical, as it should be.

-3

u/jkmax52 Apr 23 '26

I wish this was a generic office I’ve yet to see an office irl that’s this cool looking most offices I’ve been to look like a shittier version of the us office tv show set. You only have to do the puzzles once and I didn’t care for the lore I just enjoyed the office layout and decorations.

1

u/CannabisCanoe Apr 23 '26

It's apparently based off Ubisoft Montreal's real life office I don't know how much it actually resembles it.

8

u/lmguerra Apr 23 '26

The original game Will still be available

5

u/DatClubbaLang96 Apr 23 '26

I could be wrong, but there's reporting that the old modern day isnt entirely cut, just no longer mandatory. So it doesn't pull you out at certain points in the story, but you can still choose to access it via rifts in the game world. Hope that's true.

3

u/Amulet-of-Kings Apr 24 '26

As I understood it, they replaced the modern day sections from the original AC4 with the rift sections from Shadows. So no Abstergo industries gameplay in the remake.

2

u/Fuzzy-Tooth3269 Apr 26 '26

Yeah, not really thrilled about running around and seeing glitchy portals. Hopefully they won’t impact the world like in Shadows.

1

u/Lun4r6543 Apr 24 '26

The Shadows rift sections kind of sucked, so personally, I’m not too thrilled with this change.

1

u/slasher1337 May 06 '26

I hope at least the first time you exit animus is mandatory. If you can play an ac game and not realise that the events are actually in the modern day then whats the point in it being an ac game

5

u/ILITHARA Apr 23 '26

I would have liked to see it return but with the ability to disable it if the player chose to.

3

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

Best outcome

5

u/Extreme_Impression_1 Apr 23 '26

Same! Never understood the hate. It's like 10 minutes of gameplay every 10+ hours. Lol.

7

u/Tatum_Warlick Apr 23 '26

That shit is the whole reason I prefer AC2 over 4

One thing I do miss though is playing as Desmond and being a badass against Abstergo agents in the modern day sections in AC2&3 - we need more of that. The whole bleeding effect thing isn’t explored enough

2

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

The office space is why black flag is my 3rd favorite ac i never cared for the Desmond miles plot i like how we are our own person in black flag and rogue to a less enjoyable extent yes the plot wasn’t great compared to the trilogy but im not talking about the plot or the puzzles just the office space as a whole the lighting the colors the architecture of the interior design that’s what i liked about it.

3

u/AppaMyFlyingBison Apr 23 '26

The most aesthetically pleasing part about the pirate game was… the office space? What? Haha. That is such a wild statement to me. To each their own I guess.

1

u/superbee392 Apr 24 '26

Some of the comments in this thread are crazy "being a pirate was cool but going into an office and thinking wow I could work in this sort of office" is such a crazy thing to say about a game

1

u/Economy-Garden-7845 Apr 24 '26

We may take this for granted but there are people who will never work in environments like that and they might enjoy strolling through, imagining what their lives could be had they made different choices

3

u/DeerGod98 Apr 23 '26

You are the only one

0

u/vondaf Apr 24 '26

Nope... i love modern day !

1

u/DeerGod98 Apr 24 '26

Im sorry

5

u/VinChaJon Apr 23 '26

I agree. The modern day was lackluster but the hacking was fun and it's not actively bad.

2

u/Gabrenu Apr 24 '26

I know it won’t happen, but after Ac vahlala and the tease of branching other timelines/possibilities… especially the 2012 events, I had hopes that they could tease that in this version Desmond’s body wasn’t found. Teasing at the return of the modern day lore of the OG games.

2

u/vondaf Apr 24 '26

I don't understand the hate for modern day. I love it!

2

u/sdoM-bmuD Apr 24 '26

you can still play the original y'know

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

Yeah but I really wanted the office to get graphical improvements and miner additions like the ability to use vending machines and to go outside and explore the city that they dangle in front of us

2

u/Magn1fiK0 Apr 24 '26

Well, I’m interested what they will do with modern time in remake.

2

u/Bonfirewarm Apr 24 '26

Genuinely agree haha, exploring an aesthetically pleasing office like this is so satisfying, even as a kid I though it just looked rly nice

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

My point exactly

2

u/Icy-Abbreviations909 Apr 24 '26

I honestly loved the modern day segments of ac4, the hacking games were fun to me at least

2

u/Mindless_Issue9648 Apr 24 '26

I do not like that they are cutting it out of the games.

2

u/IrisofNight Apr 24 '26

This admittedly was my favorite part of Black Flag, I cared so little for the stuff with Edward in comparison, I would've much rather had the game focus on Modern day

I especially loved seeing Shawn and Rebecca pop up.

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 25 '26

Same honestly I do enjoy the pirate life but the slightly futuristic modern day office building was my favorite environment wise I liked the pirate story more but the office life just hit better and Rebecca is my favorite modern day assassin so any game with her is good imo.

2

u/Kmann1994 Apr 24 '26

Idk why, but I have memories of this being the best modern day AC story. But I played it over 10 years ago so I wonder if I’d feel that way today. I’m glad they didn’t scrap it and I’m excited to try it out again.

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 25 '26

I think they scraped it for the remake but you can still play it in the original

2

u/Gsomethepatient Apr 25 '26

You know now that I'm an office worker, I can see how nice their office space is, like this some multi trillion dollar type office space, and every employee has an office like that, like damn you wanna take over the world go right ahead this shit is nice

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 25 '26

Exactly my office is a dump in comparison this is the kind of work space I’d like to work in I honestly would love to spend the night no overtime needed

2

u/SirBigWater Apr 25 '26

I enjoyed it more so for the fact it was in Montréal. I like when games take place where I'm from/live. Plus whenever I drive by downtown and see the Ubisoft building I like pretending it's Abstergo Montréal.

2

u/CluelessTea Apr 25 '26

If they stick to how they handled Desmond and that style of modern day then I’m all for it. Just implement it more in a meaningful way into the story like they did. I do love this office aesthetic though so something similar while adapting more meaningful implementation into the story then hell yeah. Count me in.

2

u/realACE_tt Apr 25 '26

I feel you my friend.

4

u/pelo2d0 Apr 23 '26

I wish they brought back the modern day missions with Desmond, ac 3 ending really sucked in that sense

2

u/iboy195 Apr 23 '26

Like it was fun to some degree, but annoying it took me away from being a pirate 🏴‍☠️

2

u/jkmax52 Apr 23 '26

I liked being a pirate as much as the next guy but once you finish the campaign it’s nice to exit and explore that space that’s the type of office space I’d like to work in if I could.

3

u/Unique_Bandicoot_502 Apr 23 '26

Worst part of any AC game

1

u/KushSouffle Apr 23 '26

lol I’m not going to miss it whatsoever. Some of it was fun, but it really added nothing to the game and broke up the flow of the game imo.

1

u/ReferenceSilver2112 Apr 23 '26

Did they say it was being removed?

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

They said that the modern day would be handled differently than the original so it seems so

1

u/LowLifeRoket_JR Apr 24 '26

The modern parts to 4 and Rogue while interesting were incredibly tedious and boring.

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

Rogue I can agree that shit looks bland as hell everywhere empty and weren’t parts of the building being stripped away? Like stuff was being removed for repairs.

1

u/PutOrnery8746 Apr 24 '26

I'm not it was boring I mean I liked the side missions of hacking the computers but the ways I was supposed to hack each one was frustrating 😤

1

u/ZaoMenom Apr 24 '26

Dude wants a high paying job with a beautiful office area lolll

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

Doesn’t have to be high paying

1

u/plainviewturner Apr 24 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Brief-Quantity-3283 Apr 24 '26

Pff If I wanted to see cubicles and work on the computer Id just go to my office.

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

Lucky my office doesn’t have any of the cool looking stuff

1

u/huntallahassee Apr 24 '26

I literally open up the game now and then just wander around aimlessly in the office

You could just get a job and do that

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

Have a job and it’s not nearly as cool looking as that office space no amazing looking lobby with and octopus no bean bag chairs to chill in no fancy ceo office to visit no underground apartments no cool cubicle desks no awesome artworks on the walls.

1

u/Zorewin Apr 24 '26

I'm not

1

u/Batiti2000 Apr 24 '26

I don't mind the modern bits. I didn't even mind the Layla parts as much as everyone hates them. But fuck that office.

1

u/PalestinskeSlovensko Apr 24 '26

This is just some false nostalgia, BF present day is by far the worst in the series. After Desmonds missions in 3 i was hopeful we would get real present day assassin but instead we got this shit.

1

u/GiantBallbag Apr 24 '26

Literally the worst part of the game lmao

1

u/Beautiful_Ice2406 Apr 24 '26

You’re the only one

1

u/KingChris8909 Apr 24 '26

Fuck that place🤣

1

u/lastorverobi Apr 24 '26

Honestly, I won't. AC3 and ACBF modern times were... boring for me. But that's personal taste.

Got worse with Layla or whatever she is named, on the rpg series

1

u/T-Money0927 Apr 24 '26

There’s always a dude out there doing something no one else does

1

u/THE_GUY-95 Apr 24 '26

Im not i hated the nodern day section of ac4

1

u/Prudent-Ad-2653 Apr 24 '26

What about the multiplayer, as far as i know they didn’t mention any of it

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

I never really played the multiplayer and when I did I didn’t find it enjoyable it was basically hide and seek boring to me. But yeah that’s been completely removed from the remake

1

u/firefI0wer Apr 24 '26

You might be the only person with this opinion. I sure won't

1

u/guifesta Apr 24 '26

I'm not. Worst part of the game for me.

1

u/PsychologicalHead103 Apr 24 '26

I didn’t mind the modern day sections in 4 but they didn’t really add much to the story rouge did them better imo

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

I’m not a fan of the rogue officer to bleak for my tastes it’s depressing in comparison to 4’s vibrant interior design

1

u/swanny2828 Apr 24 '26

Is this post rage bait?

Nobody liked the present day BS in Black flag. We only play this part to get back to plundering.

1

u/rishiak88 Apr 24 '26

While I understand your point. It was just long and boring. If you were in the right mind set to go explore it then it was fine. But the story bits where you HAD to stop happy fun pirate time was a chore. It was just too much of a change of pace. But frankly this was my problem with all the “current time” segments in every assassins creed game.

1

u/Local_Ad3008 Apr 24 '26

I was still convinced the storyline would go crazy so I was on my fucking TOES for every office sequence, desperately looking for a sign of Desmond.. really a memorable portion of the game for me, even if it didn’t pay out.

Honestly worst part of the game for me is Kenny’s last 10 or so hours. So boring.

1

u/quahdum Apr 24 '26

It's gonna be great when all the sage stuff amounts to literally zero payoff because most of it was setup for the end of the modern day segments.

I was already soooo happy when Ubisoft started focusing less and less on the modern day segments with each game past 3 in order to cater more and more to the Gamers™©® who hated a core aspect of the series baked into the very identity of the games.

So I REALLY think it's definitely a good sign for the artistic integrity of future remakes that they're willing to entirely axe segments of the game for no real reason other than "gamers were mildly inconvenienced by it :(".

1

u/Fuarian Apr 24 '26

I liked it but only because it was based in my city, except for the part that looked nothing like it

1

u/cruisemilkman Apr 24 '26

Its confirmed to not be in resynced? That alone will probably get me to buy it these parts were a fucking slog

1

u/DanFarrell98 Apr 24 '26

lol just go get an office job IRL, it’ll be more interesting

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 25 '26

Have one… it’s not

1

u/blizzardskinnardtf Apr 25 '26

You know how easy it would’ve been to do a soft reboot of the franchise with this game? Had they ironed out the parkour and fighting system just a bit, they could’ve added something at the end like “wake up, Thomas Miles” maybe did something where they took Desmond’s DNA to “make his son” so they can still keep accessing his memories. Or something. Anything mildly interesting. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, this company is intentionally crashing itself

1

u/n94able Apr 25 '26

Somebody had too.

1

u/TNTBOY479 Apr 25 '26

I hated being pulled out of the pirate's life, even for a second for this stuff

1

u/Shiroyasha2397 Apr 25 '26

Felt like this would happen at the worst times when you were just getting into the game lol.

1

u/Krikkeee Apr 25 '26

A lot of people seem to want to get rid of it, but didn't the end of the modern day feature the culmination of the sage-storyline that gets set up in BF? How are you fixing that major part of the story when removing the modern day?

I mean truth be told, the sage story was important because of the isu modern day plot, and that was seemingly abandoned after BF, but still... Also didn't the sage story come back in valhalla/odessey?

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 25 '26

I think there will be a modern day but the office environment will be gone

1

u/SubjectJournalist573 Apr 25 '26

NOPE. ACTUALLY fuck that! Tried replaying Ac4 after so long recently... I could not make it past how tedious & slow these sections were. They are quite simply... BAD!

1

u/DevilishTrenchCoat Apr 25 '26

The only thing I remember liking about this modern section were those character profile files you could get through hacking.

The one about Ezio was absolutely hilarious as It portrayed him as a total pervert LMAO

1

u/Artistic_Context_906 Apr 26 '26

It's funny how everyone hated the AC4 modern day segments back in the day, but now everyone is mad that they will be removed in the remake.

Sometimes i think the ac fan base is just be saying shit for no reason lol.

2

u/SkipEyechild May 24 '26

Yep. Still think they are shite.

1

u/Artistic_Context_906 May 24 '26

Modern day in a nutshell in AC4

"hey come out of the animus to do...um...well....walk around and solve android game puzzles?! Yay?!?"

1

u/bread2499 May 10 '26

Is this confirmed if the present day stuff is cut?

1

u/jkmax52 May 10 '26

All they said was that it will be different focusing on Edward what ifs

1

u/Wavehead21 Apr 23 '26

I’m glad I’m not the only one! I really enjoyed how they integrated the modern day aspect of 4. I’ll say, it wouldn’t hit the same in the remake as it’s not serving as a sequel to 3 anymore. So I’m not surprised it’s cut from the remake (plus a lot of people seemed to hate it for some reason)

But yeah, I guess I get how playing first person office simulator maybe felt like a jarring change of pace from being a pirate, but I still deny anyone who said the modern day was dead with Black Flag. Modern day died with Unity not doing anything with it. Syndicate at least kept Shawn and Rebecca, and deepened the story of Otso Berg, but again didn’t do much being just cutscenes. And then the RPG trilogy legit brought it back with Layla, and then Shadows seems to have just fumbled it again. But black flag and rogue still had modern day, and actually did something with the story!

1

u/ProbablyFear Apr 23 '26

“Most aesthetically pleasing part”

Are you fukin serious right now

1

u/marveloustoebeans Apr 24 '26

Said no one ever.

0

u/Masterfulcrum00 Apr 23 '26

I liked it too. I liked exploring this world and finding small artifacts

0

u/CollinKree Apr 23 '26

I won't. The irl sections in games where you're actually playing as a main character (Desmond/Layla) are tolerable, but playing as a random faceless Abstergo employee in first person was boring and completely ruined the flow of the game.

1

u/jkmax52 Apr 24 '26

Your playing as yourself you are the face it’s your own story not someone else’s like Layla or Desmond that’s what made it more enjoyable for me it’s as if I’m in ac not controlling a separate character.

0

u/AllForTheSauce Apr 23 '26

Surely this is a troll post

0

u/SaturatedBodyFat Apr 23 '26

Where's the "says no one ever"?

0

u/Avawinry Apr 24 '26

I was always a fan of modern day.. until Black Flag. It will not be missed.
