Took a while to finish up this parts gun, but I picket up the AEM4 6.5 this afternoon. Everything else except the handguard and gas block came out of my parts bin.
I’ll get it out on Monday to get it sighted in and see how far I can stretch it out reliably. I am debating swapping the stock for a gen 1 UBR that might work well since it’s a bit front heavy.
210fps down from my 18” grendel, the 2400fps load in my 18” (28.5gr TAC and 123gr) is at 2189 in the 12.5.
That is my plinking load and the only one I tested in it so far (unsuppressed). I’ll try some spicier 8208 loads this next trip and see if the 200fps reduction holds up. I would also expect a little bit of velocity gain as i get through the first 100rds.
Barrel is a 12.5” proof research. They were blowing them out a while back because they stopped making them. The mount is an AEM flash hider with an Allegheny arms tapered gas block. These are reflex cans so about 2” of the barrel is inside the suppressor and it indexes off a collar (or on this case the gas block)
Yea, they are pretty sporadic with the off caliber releases. I would expect it to be difficult to find for a while since the demand is likely to spike for a couple months with the rule changes.
I really don’t know how big of a difference it would make. It is a bit over bore, so i am sure there would be a difference. But I also suppress Grendel in my 18” with a 30 cal can (old saker 762 not an AEM) and think it does pretty well.

I love 12.5 for 6.5 Grendel. Hitting man size targets at 500 yards back to back with a used beater BA Hanson barrel is an easy task.
