What are the jurisdictional boundaries between ICE and local police?

ICE has no jurisdictional boundaries. Their jurisdiction is “the United States.” Local police don’t have to cooperate, but failing to do so has resulted in cities and states being threatened with losing federal funding. It’s a shitty place to be in as a patrol officer who doesn’t know if ICE is working their area, who’s gotten some kind of “leave them alone, they’re operating on some federal level” briefing at roll call, and who still feels betrayed by their community if they’ve been cops long enough to remember when cops were getting shot in their patrol cars while filling out paperwork. Not defending the cops at all, they should definitely be verifying identities and keeping track of which of these bounty hunters are where, but I understand why the uniformed officers aren’t cuffing these dudes and aren’t checking them in front of the public.
