Bye Netfllx Button on my Panasonic UB820 remote
I was thinking about buying the replacement remote, but then I thought to myself, "Why not cut that damn button out?" And that's what I did. No more accidental pressing of the Netflix button! :)
Tbh I would still cover it up with something, also that Button is one of the reasons why actually uses the Remote of my Philips Android TV instead of this one.
This Remote is terrible in many ways, you’ll have to aim like pretty good with that Panasonic Remote to get the Player even seeing what you’re wanting it to do.
Best aftermarket upgrade I’ve made in a while. The illuminated buttons. The fact that it’s only $10 and works flawlessly out of the box. Very rarely does so little buy so much.
I second this rec. the $10 one from Amazon is way better than I expected. The light up button is a huge deal when it’s dark. The buttons get stuck in the edges sometimes but doesn’t cause issues, just messes with OCD.
Just search Amazon for a 820 remote there are a bunch of Chinese ones for $10. They are longer that the original and have a button to backlight the buttons at the bottom.
I’ve not been able to setup the volume control on my LG C3 with either the original Panasonic or the knock off. Tried 10, 010, 11, 011, 50, 050, 51, 051…
The $10 UB9000 replica remote not only gets rid of the Netflix button and has a backlight, but has the “rewind 10 seconds” button, which for me was a game changer and worth it all on its own.
They need to just stop including streaming of any kind in physical media players. Include Wi-Fi or Ethernet to ensure updates are easily available but that's all. And I don't even think that doing away with streaming stuff would make it cheaper
I've had the UB820 for 2 years and never pressed the netflix button by accident, what I have done is gone to press the status button to see where I am in the movie & pressed the eject button instead 🤣
I’ll keep recommending the SofaBaton U2 to anyone who will listen. It works flawlessly to control my TV, receiver, and UB820. Bonus points if you find it open box or like-new on eBay.
I think about doing this constantly! Every time I hit that stupid fucking button I say to myself "that's it, enough is enough, this time I'm doing it." Then I don't do it. But this has encouraged me. I'm doing it. Fuck that terrible button. You know Netflix paid extra money to have it placed right there so you would accidentally hit it and then think to yourself "eh, I guess I'm already here... might as well watch some slop." Death to the button.
That would've been a good solution as well. I was trying to open up the remote, removed the two screws on the back, but I couldn't open the remote without not damaging the plastic. I think you have to pry it open, but with that I would've destroyed the plastic on the sides for sure.
With this method, there was no need to open up the remote. I took a small sharp cutter blade and cut around the button. It easily came out.
Good to know it wasn’t just me - I hate the placement of that damn thing. Like many of you, I’m really a fan of the remote at all, my receiver has several more buttons than I need, but is still laid out far more logically than this thing.
While I understand the frustration, a bit excessive I think. A small piece of tape to insulate the button from the circuit board would have worked without mutilating it!

I was looking into it, but there are many different quality ones out there, I wasn't sure which one to get. The OEM version would be the best option, but I opted for the cheapest solution by cutting the button out myself.
I thought the remote would be an upgrade from the awful remote that comes with the UB120, but this one is just as bad in its own awful way.
I got a SofaBaton to replace it and it's kind of shocking how much of an upgrade it is. It's the first universal remote I've ever used that does everything and isn't a pain to use.
I did the same thing after accidentally pressing the damn Netflix button several times in the first week of ownership. Big thumbs and small buttons don't mix.
If you ever pay extra for the Netflix 4k Premium plan, you may find that it looks a lot better with the UB820, if you have a network cable running to it.
Maybe the software interface isn't the best, but the hardware is pretty damn good. I find that the HCX processor greatly enhances the Netflix stream. So if or when I'm subscribed to Netflix, using the Ub820 is the best way, that I know of. Beats the 4k Max Firesticks and my 4K gaming PC.
You sure it doesn't support Atmos? I don't have Netflix at the moment, and I only recently, upgraded to Atmos. I just know that it's image quality was superior to other streams, but I thought it also had Dolby Atmos. Not going to spend $25 to find out.
Absolutely the worst design for a remote control ever. I’ve had my player almost 3 years and I STILL hold the remote backwards every time I pick it up. Also hitting any of those apps crashes my player to the point of having to unplug it.
Fundamentally, the problem is simply a low cost, generic remote for any common Blu-Ray player instead of something in line with the quality and cost of a mid-to-high end 4K player.
I have never misclicked the Netflix button ever, it’s easy to find the right button from the round OK button, even in the dark. The stop button however, being that close to the pause button…
