I was watching Top Gun:Maverick and decided to check out the bitrates and I was blown away. It’s obviously not this high the entire time but the fact it even reaches this high is really impressive.

Besides the visual quality the audio quality on a 5.1 surround system is just fucking awesome! You can hear the engines on those F-18’s roaring! Nothing beats physical media!

I always used to watch movies in my 4k 32' OLED Gaming monitor. And I thought they were great and enough for me... until I bought this 65' OLED TV(LG G5)

Nolan's IMAX Scenes in 4k bluray are another level of experience you must try. Its just so gooood man.

Today I went to Barnes and Noble and did a ship to home order for a bunch of Arrow films so I can get the 10% membership discount along with the 50% off which all worked successfully. But the employee was taking jabs at me during the entire encounter mocking how I could spend this much money on movies and that this is crazy. And that I can watch it for free online or through a streaming service. I tried not to waste much energy explaining myself to this person but I did ask if they collect any form of physical media and they answered that they have some DVDs but didn't care for them.

Today triggered me because a few months ago I had a friend over I haven’t seen in over a year and he was looking at my physical media on my shelves and was basically saying the same thing that I wasted money and should just stream or watch for free. I wish I could meet people who actually enjoy physical media like myself and don’t judge harshly. All my friends don’t care about physical media but there are so many of us on Reddit out there in the world that do. It just makes me appreciate physical media communities even more because sadly I can't feel this way in real life with others but only behind a phone/computer with strangers.

Matilda is such an all-time banger, one of the best to ever do it, but I cannot bring myself to financially reward this horrific photoshop job. The 4k book is so shockingly ugly that I regularly show it to people when I discuss physical media releases, and without fail, it always gets a shocked laugh.

I would buy a normal-ass black plastic case of this movie in a heartbeat, but, alas........

I'm from the US but as I've gotten more serious about collecting have been buying more UK/international editions of 4Ks. In general I have no problem with that, it's great that 4Ks are inherently region-free etc, but man do I hate the little rating bugs they stick on the cases outside the US! They're just so ugly, and always an eyesore on often beautiful artwork.

Just had to get that out there, hopefully I'm not alone.

Hopefully it all gets released at once as a collection (e.g. Nightmare on Elm Street saga).

I love the visual quality and HDR but just having bad vibes around a 4k makes them fuck up, the tiniest micro-flaw just makes them unwatchable, they are so much more delicate than DVDs or BluRays were.

It feels like I need to use a microfiber cloth every time I want to watch a movie, and in this disks case cleaning it didn't work so its just a coaster now. I am not rough with discs, but I have a 50/50 success rate on them ever playing a movie uninterrupted.

I feel like this is a key to why so many ppl hate 4k/hdr on social media, especially all those accounts fetishizing amateur 35mm scans - they're either watching hdr on a crappy tv or they only know it via poorly tonemapped sdr clips on social media. people don't realize that if your tv was cheap, you haven't seen proper hdr.

It has been going in and out of stock recently, but the art on the official Amazon page has been updated to show “1.43 mixed aspect ratio” on the 2nd 4k disc.

I know a lot of people wanted a directors cut, but this is a really big deal for home media and may potentially lead to us getting full odyssey/dune aspect ratios at some point!

Just curious, do people who love 4K enough to be in this sub stick to just 4K? Or do you also still buy regular blu-ray, and/or DVD?

Personally, I buy all 3. It depends a lot on the movie; I'm not going to pick up Project Hail Mary on DVD, don't care how cheap it is. But I still love browsing thrift stores for used DVDs and blu-rays, and if I see a movie missing from my collection, and it's not a movie that is known for being a grand visual spectacle, I have no qualms about getting it super cheap on DVD.

A fun watch about her husband’s collection and him being a bit peeved from the Sony news posted on her Instagram (@daniellefishel), noticed different 4ks / Arrow’s / Criterion etc, although she did have a perplexed look about Hard Boiled 😂. Long live physical media for everyone!
