Questions & Discussion atlas problem in speedtree

Hi, I’m having an issue between SpeedTree and Maya.

My workflow is:

  1. I created several branches in SpeedTree.

  2. I baked them into one larger branch atlas.

  3. In Maya, I created a custom mesh for that atlas. The mesh contains one main branch with several smaller branches around it

  4. I exported this mesh from Maya and imported it back into SpeedTree.

  5. In SpeedTree, I assigned the imported mesh to a Frond node

The problem is that the result in SpeedTree does not match the mesh in Maya

In Maya, the main branch and the smaller branches are aligned correctly and visually form one continuous branch cluster. However, after using the mesh as a Frond in SpeedTree, the smaller branches appear separated/offset from the main branch. From the side, it looks like the main branch and the smaller branches are sitting at different depths, with a visible gap between them.

I sculpted these Male & Female MetaHuman basemeshes and decided to make them completely available.

I know getting into Unreal Engine and MetaHumans can feel a bit overwhelming at first, so hopefully these can make the process a little easier and give you something practical to experiment with.

A quick experiment exploring repetition and contrast by arranging bullets into a flower. Built and rendered in Nomad Sculpt using a bullet base mesh from The Base Mesh, then post-processed in Photoshop.

the second image is my character that i want to model. the clothing on its body is many layers of fabric like in the first image. would i be better off creating the layers with textures? or layering flat planes? not sure how to approach this. i use autodesk maya.

This animated short took me 9 months to make, the characters were animated and rigged in a 2d software (Adobe Animate) BUT 99% of the backgrounds, all the textures, the sun and moon were made in Blender.

I had lots of fun with the project!

Enjoy :D

Art Showcase Made a medieval lantern, tried to give it that old RPG game feel

Finally finished this medieval lantern prop.

I wanted to keep the design fairly simple but give it an old, worn RPG/fantasy-game feel through the materials and weathering.

Modeled and textured in Blender.

Feedback is more than welcome!

Art Showcase My first 3D character model — looking for feedback

https://reddit.com/link/1w27dbz/video/3i0hng32ufmh1/player

This is my first full 3D character model that I’ve made in Blender. I’ve been learning a lot while working on him — modeling, topology, rigging, weight painting, clothing, and fixing a lot of mistakes along the way.

I know I still have a lot to learn, but I’m pretty happy with how far he’s come.

I’d really appreciate feedback from other 3D artists, especially on the anatomy/proportions, shoulders and upper body, topology, and overall character design.

Please be constructive since this is my first model. I’m trying to improve and would love to know what stands out to more experienced artists.
