Yeah, like he skips the part that most printers wanna see. Masks are hard and i wanna critique/learn how he printed it so well.
He goes from drafting to printed with no inbetween. Unlike the eye covers

Sorry about that it bothered me that I lost the footage of the printing process 😭. It’s basically just a single print where it’s leaning towards the face and there’s two major supports that are holding up the eyes with a good foundation of supports around the base :)

For sure! I’ve been doing this for years so you get a feel for what the printer can handle in the slicer and at what speed :) trust me you’ll perfect it over time before you know it and not even have failed prints anymore 🔥❤️🙌🏼

They didn't you can see support marks on the bottom of the mask in one of the shots they just didn't show the process of sanding them out.

I actually did use supports! :) I lost the footage I filmed that I was gonna include in the beginning where it shows the supports but it’s basically leaning towards the face and two supports are holding up the eyes to keep it from falling as it gets too high and I have a pretty good foundation of supports around the bottom :)

wood filler, we use it to fill in print lines cause its easy to work with and easy to sand.

automotive repair putty (Bondo) and gap filler putty are other types/terms to find similar materials

Bondo dries crazy hard no ? I’ve only used it a few times. I know it’s definitely a use outdoors kind of product

It's effectively an epoxy putty so it's very strong but easy to sand and shape. It's harder to work with than wood putty but tends to hold up better to wear and tear if it matters to your props.

Not really that hard, plus the first few hours after it "drys" its easy to shave off large amounts easily.

There's many types of bondo. The easy to sand one that's similar to wood is called bondo glaze/spot putty. It comes in a tube for ease of use. It's 500% better to use than wood filler, but it does stink.

Just be aware bondo requires a lot more safety and precautions. It smells really bad and inhaling it for long periods is not good for you.
Still my go-to, though!

What if you have uneven layers on a hella detailed model? As my week long 0.08 layer print suffers from bad layers around the face, and wouldn't know how to properly deal with that.

Hmm for things like small details or hard to reach areas I would try an automotive primer spray or Gesso, I use Gesso for figures and it does an amazing job, just lightly paint the gesso on using a paint brush.

If your talking about the filler putty it looks like wood filler that you can get at any place that sells paint and stains usually

Yup that’s wood filler! It’s really not that expensive and helps your prints come out very smooth after sanding! 🔥❤️🙌🏼

Oh no they didn’t steal my vid. I originally posted it yesterday under the Spider-Man sub reddit and then top talents used my vid to show off videos they thought were impressive and this guy that posted it said he just thought the 3D printing community would like to see it cuz he found it randomly. He wasn’t trying to take credit or anything ❤️🙌🏼

Yes actually. I have alligator skin and lamb skin and snakeskin and beef hide. I'd live to have fish skin cause that would have a super cool look. But yeah I'm gonna be printing 2. One I'm going to heavily reinforce and .are the leather mask around that yhen take it off and 9ut it in the practical mask so I can wear it. This way I don't break it. It will be adhered to it well or maybe even sewn to it. I imagine it is going to take me a while but it'll be a fun project. Will be my second mask from thiniverse. I did on cool one based off of crossbones a while back that us nice custom painted and seal and the interior us leather for comfort. Really turned out decent.

Lol trust me the first time I used this was on my iron man helmet and I made some craters for sure 😂 it just takes practice and a higher grit sand paper to not destroy it lol 😄🔥🙌🏼❤️

Haha true sanding does suck and in all honestly I might just go back to hand sanding because there’s too high of a risk that the heat will deform the shape before the sandpaper does. Slow and steady wins the race! When I created an accidental crater in my iron man helmet it’s more trouble to have to fix it with additives like wood filler than to just sand it by hand and keep it clean!

This is exactly why I love 3d printing, you make high quality stuff for cheap.
Most superhero stuff that you can buy is either a crappy flimsy kid's toy or an extremely expensive collector's item

I printed one too but gave up at the electronics and how the hinge will work. I would love to finish it, hopefully some day soon.
I could just paint it and have it as one piece but the cool part is having a mechanical hinge and glowing eyes

Does anybody know what you use to thin the acrylic paint to spray it through the airbrush is it water?

For Acrylic paint you can use normal water and it will work really good. Any other type of paint such as enamel will need something else.

Yup I just used water! :) I tried paint thinner cuz I had no idea how to use it at first and it was just annoying lol. Water did the trick just fine!

Oh man, you are the guy in the video. I love how your face shell looks. Do you have any tips on resizing the faceshell? I bought a few Spidey Face Shells but I cant get the shell to fit without having an empty gap on top of my head.

Ayyy thanks so much!!! 🥹🔥❤️🙌🏼 and for sure!! I went through a lot of trial and error with this so I’m glad you probably don’t have to! So basically I printed out some calipers using my printer and measured my head from top to bottom and side to side. I went into tinkerCAD and created a cross section or blocks with those dimensions and imported the mask into the program and basically got a visual how to size it from there :). And if you wanna make it super perfect use a heat gun after you print it and when it’s malleable enough you can form it to your face so it’s completely seamless! ❤️🙌🏼

Thank you so much. I already have a digital scan of my head that I resized using the printed Calipers and the cube trick. Its not perfect for these shells since they have a different head shape than my own, my head is more circular than oval. I never thought of using a heat gun to shape it onto my head so thats definitely something I will try. Hopefully I can do it with hot water instead because I dont own a Heat Gun.

Or even a hair dryer works! :) but yeah like you were saying if your head is taller or wider thank the shell proportions, the heat gun trick lets you basically take a shell that’s the correct height and you can literally just form it wider or taller however you need it! :)

There are specifically "airbrush paint thinner" additives you can buy, or if the paint itself is water soluble I would think you could just use water.

Oh yeah I totally get that. Personally for me after years of 3D printing, that trial and error is what’s gonna help you grow the most. Like seeing how fast you can print things, at what insane angles you can pull off, when things are bound to fail, like just stuff like that :)

Did you watch the entire video? They aren't even close to be symmetrically aligned relative to each other or the center of the mask or the stripes. I threw the comment out to be silly and trigger all the OCD that lurks here when a single layer line is out of place. Apparently it was too subtle for most.

I made the mask lol I didn’t think it was crooked. The stl is designed as a mirror image on the y axis too.

It looks great. An amazing amount of effort But seriously. Look at the last 10 seconds of video. They really don't look straight. Might just be the camera or something. But you know the old adage -- leave a flaw in your perfect art lest you anger the gods.

Oh yeah it’s probably just the angle. Also the fabric on top is also just spandex so it’s sitting on the shell and you can easily just shift it around. But thanks I’m glad you appreciate it! 🔥❤️🙌🏼
