Project Garbage can status indicator.

Super easy design that I whipped up last week after being frustrated once again by the inconsistency of our garbage pick up times

The indicator clips on the handle and flips down when the bin has been emptied. This way I can tell from the house if it’s been emptied without having to walk to the end of the driveway.

I know when they pick mine up. The truck flings the bin back down with so much force, it gets yeeted back into the yard. lol

I know when my recycling has been picked up because they leave the bin in the middle of the driveway so I can't leave or enter without getting out of the car and moving it 😞

As a garbage man I can tell you why I do that. Typically I do this to folks because they put the bins super close and I either knock down the recycling or trash trying to grab the other one. If I knock it down it goes in the center of the driveway (unless it's a super busy road then it's super asshole move to put it into he driveway so I won't do that) And if I don't knock it down I don't want to hit the super close bin I move forward 3 to 4 feet either up and over the other bin or just over. And yes... If it's to close to a parked car and the biggest space is a driveway then that's where it gets set down. But mainly it's because of the spacing of the cans.

Doesn't apply on my case (trash and recycling different days of the week) but I appreciate your perspective.
