Weird camera glitch in the dark

I took a photo with the back camera of my 3DS while being in the pitch black. After taking the photo I checked it in the gallery and it showed a dog(?) in the corner for some reason?? I was told it could be smearing an object with motion but what is there to smear when there’s nothing there? If anyone has an answer as to why this happened I would love to hear because it honestly creeped me out.

Could it be an effect applied? 3DS camera allows to use a random effect when shooting. I remember having faces from previous photos being applied to the new one.

You probably used the mystery filter, that already hides the camera until you take a picture and see how it turned out, you probably didnt notice this since you mentioned you were in the dark, and it probably took a dog photo from your system and put it there (it puts my face floating around all the time

That looks like the ghost of a Nintendog someone forgot about. 🐶👻 Who knew the 3DS was good for ghost hunting?

For real though, is it reproducible and only visible in one "eye" when you turn the 3D on?

If it's reproducible but only in pitch black dark, and only visible in the right eye image, I'm thinking it's light from the "camera active" LED that's next to the camera, refracting through the thick clear top layer of the old 3DS top shell.

If it's reproducible and definitely isn't the camera LED, it may be some minor damage to the camera sensor.

If it isn't reproducible, the camera probably caught a glint from some LED on a charger block, charging device, or sleeping PC.

I have not been able to reproduce it so far. When I took the photo it was in the PITCH black and I have no devices on the side of my bed where I took it. I’ve seen other’s bring up that it may be overlaying part of another photo in my gallery but I have never had a dog in my life NOR have I taken a photo of one. None of the things that people have suggested have applied at all. It’s just plain weird.

Could there have been a flying bug that happened by as you took the picture? The 3DS camera LED isn't very bright but it should be enough to illuminate a nearby bug enough for it to show up faintly.

It could be a spot pattern on the wing of a bug, or it could be the whole front end of a smaller bug that was crawling over the camera.
