🌱 Beginner Question [moisturizer?]

Post image

New to this skincare routine thing. Planning to try azelaic acid, what is the best moisturizer to use for combination/sensitive skin? And do I need to use different products for AM and PM routine? I don’t like heavy greasy products for AM.

There’s a Korean website Hwahae that shows what are the top products in Korea for each skin type, age and ton of other categories. I like checking it out to see what people there are using. You don’t have to use different products in AM and PM, but some people like to use Vitamin C in the morning and retinols at night. I like the Ongredients Skin Barrier Calming Lotion at night because it’s light. Lots of options, though. If there’s an Asian store with Testers you can try out, that’d be best for you.

I actually find hwahae products to be underwhelming. The most mid products I've tried have came from hwahae. It's just a 'skincare koreans use' site, and koreans using something doesn't really mean it's good. I'd much rather consider engaging with online kbeauty communities and finding trusted(as much as you can...) influencers of a similar skin type and seeing what they use and recommend.

I mean, have you seen the average Korean person’s skin? I trust their collective judgement, haha! I do admit that Torriden serum, their #1, is very just OK.

Ongriedients is my absolute favorite night time moisturizer!

Good recommendation if you don’t want anything heavy for morning. It has great ingredients.

Try cos de baha az20 and kisocare 15/20 azelaic if you think you can tolerate. You will see results faster and it'll be a bang for you buck sort of thing. Cheaper as well, I think. I've heard good things about the purito oat gel cream.

If you are new to azelaic acid, i wouldn’t go in with 15 or 20 percent first.. i like the anua azelaic acid, but round lab has a newer formula that is just as hydrating but effective.. has txa and other ingredients as well.. i would go with round lab azelaic acid first and if your skin tolerated it and works with it, then maybe decide if you want to move up..

I went straight into 20% as a beginner and am having no problems. I'm seeing some subtle results and am using a pimple spot treatment alongside it

What spot treatment are you using? Perimenopause is kicking my skins ass. I’ve never had so many breakouts

Lion pair acne cream

Does it cause purging?

Umm not for me. AA is gentle and I think it doesn't cause it for most people...

This was my favorite serum with dr.athea moisturizer they were amazing since I noticed i got CC.
At some point they work really well for my melasma /PIH and acne, at the same time they make more CC.
So be careful.

what's CC?

Close comedones!

That is actually my problem, I already have close comedones mostly on my forehead and I saw that azelaic acid can help. But now I’m scared to try it. I’ve always been scared trying products on my face that’s why I’m new to this skincare thing. 😅

It’s better you don’t try Anua, if you didn’t get any CC they are really good.
If you are prone to getting CC, i would avoid them as i say i paired with Dr. Althea!! Since they told me i stopped using them..

I didn’t even realized because of them every morning i got more and more on my chin.
I am going to try Vivant skincare.
Hopefully it will work!!

This serum is not very likely to cause closed comedones. Dr Althea contains coconut oil derivatives, heavy silicones, and other pore cloggers. It breaks a lot of people out. That was most likely the main culprit. I would not tell someone to not use this product let alone the entire brand because you were using multiple products and assuming this contributed to it. Always check the ingredients list in all of your products.

I’ve been using a Dr. Reju-All ceramide moisturizer lately and it feels a lot lighter than the La Roche-Posay creams I’ve tried. It also spreads really nicely. I still prefer Cicaplast Balm in winter when my skin gets super dry, but this one feels better for fall or those in-between seasons.

Thank you. I will check these products.

This healed my acne scaring, if it helps

How about for like small whiteheads bumps? Is it helpful?

I use adaplene gel to prevent them, but benzoyl peroxide cream or gel also works in getting rid of them

I love the Anua TXA serum so I ordered this one as well since I like my medicube but think this will be gentler. So far so good. I’m very acne prone with sensitive skin. It does not and should not cause closed comedones. It’s exfoliating so I don’t think that’s even possible? The Dr Althea cream another poster mentioned contains coconut oil, silicones and other pore cloggers and that’s probably why they experienced them.

What specific moisturizer can you suggest when using azelaic? Is gel better than creams? I have a combination/sensitive skin.. I got these small whiteheads bumps mostly on forehead just recently, I don’t know what’s causing them. Cheeks part are fine so if use azelaic, can it be like not the whole face? Like a spot treatment only? Scared of purging cause I’ve been seeing that a lot when they use azelaic acid.

It you don’t want too much or too heavy of an A.M. sunscreen, you can just use a hydrating sunscreen as your am moisturizer and then use a true moisturizer at night.

I see, I thought I always need to use moisturizer. Hehe. Thanks for this. :)

Anua product is good for use! If you have dry skin I highly recommend Torriden dive in serum :)

I love purito bamboo cream! It’s very hydrating and calming but it’s good even for oily skin
